NEW AMERICAN BIBLE | NEW JERUSALEM |

Now in regard to the collection for the holy ones, you also should do as I ordered the churches of Galatia. | 1 Now about the collection for God's holy people; you are to do the same as I prescribed for thechurches in Galatia. |
On the first day of the week each of you should set aside and save whatever one can afford, so that collections will not be going on when I come. | 2 On the first day of the week, each of you should put aside and reserve as much as each can spare; donot delay the col ection til I arrive. |
And when I arrive, I shall send those whom you have approved with letters of recommendation to take your gracious gift to Jerusalem. | 3 When I come, I wil send to Jerusalem with letters of introduction those people you approve to deliveryour gift; |
If it seems fitting that I should go also, they will go with me. | 4 if it is worth my going too, they can travel with me. |
I shall come to you after I pass through Macedonia (for I am going to pass through Macedonia), | 5 In any case, I shal be coming to you after I have passed through Macedonia, as I have to go throughMacedonia; |
and perhaps I shall stay or even spend the winter with you, so that you may send me on my way wherever I may go. | 6 and I may be staying some time with you, perhaps wintering, so that you can start me on my nextjourney, wherever I may be going. |
For I do not wish to see you now just in passing, but I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits. | 7 I do not want to make only a passing visit to you, and I am hoping to spend quite a time with you, theLord permitting. |
I shall stay in Ephesus until Pentecost, | 8 But I shal remain at Ephesus until Pentecost, |
because a door has opened for me wide and productive for work, but there are many opponents. | 9 for a very promising door is standing wide open to me and there are many against us. |
If Timothy comes, see that he is without fear in your company, for he is doing the work of the Lord just as I am. | 10 If Timothy comes, make sure that he has nothing to fear from you; he is doing the Lord's work, justas I am, |
Therefore no one should disdain him. Rather, send him on his way in peace that he may come to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers. | 11 and nobody is to underrate him. Start him off in peace on his journey to come on to me: the brothersand I are waiting for him. |
Now in regard to our brother Apollos, I urged him strongly to go to you with the brothers, but it was not at all his will that he go now. He will go when he has an opportunity. | 12 As for our brother Apollos, I urged him earnestly to come to you with the brothers, but he was quitefirm that he did not want to go yet, and he wil come when he finds an opportunity. |
Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. | 13 Be vigilant, stay firm in the faith, be brave and strong. |
Your every act should be done with love. | 14 Let everything you do be done in love. |
I urge you, brothers--you know that the household of Stephanas is the firstfruits of Achaia and that they have devoted themselves to the service of the holy ones-- | 15 There is something else I must urge you to do, brothers. You know how Stephanas' family have beenthe first-fruits of Achaia and have devoted themselves to the service of God's holy people; |
be subordinate to such people and to everyone who works and toils with them. | 16 I ask you in turn to put yourselves at the service of people like this and all that work with them in thisarduous task. |
I rejoice in the arrival of Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus, because they made up for your absence, | 17 I am delighted that Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus have arrived; they have made up foryour not being here. |
for they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. So give recognition to such people. | 18 They have set my mind at rest, just as they did yours; you should appreciate people like them. |
The churches of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Prisca together with the church at their house send you many greetings in the Lord. | 19 The churches of Asia send their greetings. Aquila and Prisca send their best wishes in the Lord, together with the church that meets in their house. |
All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. | 20 Al the brothers send their greetings. Greet one another with the holy kiss. |
I, Paul, write you this greeting in my own hand. | 21 This greeting is in my own hand-PAUL. |
If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be accursed. Marana tha. | 22 If there is anyone who does not love the Lord, a curse on such a one. Maran atha. |
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. | 23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. |
My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. | 24 My love is with you all in Christ Jesus. |
