O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David.
To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.2 Hear, O God, my prayer of supplication. Rescue my soul from the fear of the enemy.
Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.3 You have protected me from the assembly of the malignant, from a multitude of workers of iniquity.
Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.4 For they have sharpened their tongues like a sword; they have formed their bow into a bitter thing,
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:5 so that they may shoot arrows from hiding at the immaculate.
When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.6 They will suddenly shoot arrows at him, and they will not be afraid. They are resolute in their wicked talk. They have discussed hidden snares. They have said, “Who will see them?”
Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.7 They have been searching carefully for iniquities. Their exhaustive search has failed. Man will approach with a deep heart,
My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.8 and God will be exalted. The arrows of the little ones have become their wounds,
But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.9 and their tongues have been weakened against them. All those who saw them have been troubled;
They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.10 and every man was afraid. And they announced the works of God, and they understood his acts.
But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.11 The just will rejoice in the Lord, and they will hope in him. And all the upright of heart will be praised.
