KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.1 Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, who is good, whose love endures forever.
Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?2 Who can tell the mighty deeds of the LORD, proclaim in full God's praise?
Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.3 Happy those who do what is right, whose deeds are always just.
Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;4 Remember me, LORD, as you favor your people; come to me with your saving help,
That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.5 That I may see the prosperity of your chosen, rejoice in the joy of your people, and glory with your heritage.
We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.6 We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong and are guilty.
Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.7 Our ancestors in Egypt did not attend to your wonders. They did not remember your great love; they defied the Most High at the Red Sea.
Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake to make his power known.
He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.9 He roared at the Red Sea and it dried up. He led them through the deep as through a desert.
And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.10 He rescued them from hostile hands, freed them from the power of the enemy.
And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.11 The waters covered their oppressors; not one of them survived.
Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.12 Then they believed his words and sang songs of praise.
They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:13 But they soon forgot all he had done; they had no patience for his plan.
But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.14 In the desert they gave way to their cravings, tempted God in the wasteland.
And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.15 So he gave them what they asked and sent among them a wasting disease.
They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.16 In the camp they challenged Moses and Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.
The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.17 The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, it closed on the followers of Abiram.
And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.18 Against that company the fire blazed; flames consumed the wicked.
They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.19 At Horeb they fashioned a calf, worshiped a metal statue.
Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.20 They exchanged their glorious God for the image of a grass-eating bull.
They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;21 They forgot the God who saved them, who did great deeds in Egypt,
Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.22 Amazing deeds in the land of Ham, fearsome deeds at the Red Sea.
Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.23 He would have decreed their destruction, had not Moses, the chosen leader, Withstood him in the breach to turn back his destroying anger.
Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:24 Next they despised the beautiful land; they did not believe the promise.
But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.25 In their tents they complained; they did not obey the LORD.
Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:26 So with raised hand he swore to destroy them in the desert,
To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.27 To scatter their descendants among the nations, disperse them in foreign lands.
They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.28 They joined in the rites of Baal of Peor, ate food sacrificed to dead gods.
Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.29 They provoked him by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.
Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.30 Then Phinehas rose to intervene, and the plague was brought to a halt.
And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.31 This was counted for him as a righteous deed for all generations to come.
They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:32 At the waters of Meribah they angered God, and Moses suffered because of them.
Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.33 They so embittered his spirit that rash words crossed his lips.
They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:34 They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,
But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.35 But mingled with the nations and imitated their ways.
And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.36 They worshiped their idols and were ensnared by them.
Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,37 They sacrificed to the gods their own sons and daughters,
And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.38 Shedding innocent blood, the blood of their own sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed.
Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.39 They defiled themselves by their actions, became adulterers by their conduct.
Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.40 So the LORD grew angry with his people, abhorred his own heritage.
And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.41 He handed them over to the nations, and their adversaries ruled them.
Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.42 Their enemies oppressed them, kept them under subjection.
Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.43 Many times did he rescue them, but they kept rebelling and scheming and were brought low by their own guilt.
Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:44 Still God had regard for their affliction when he heard their wailing.
And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.45 For their sake he remembered his covenant and relented in his abundant love,
He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.46 Winning for them compassion from all who held them captive.
Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.47 Save us, LORD, our God; gather us from among the nations That we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in praising you.
Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! Let all the people say, Amen! Hallelujah!
