1 But of the times and moments, brethren, you need not, that we should write to you;	1 Riguardo poi ai tempi e ai momenti, fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva;
2 For yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall so come, as a thief in the night.	2 infatti sapete bene che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.
3 For when they shall say, peace and security; then shall sudden destruction come upon them, as the pains upon her that is with child, and they shall not escape.	3 E quando la gente dirà: «C’è pace e sicurezza!», allora d’improvviso la rovina li colpirà, come le doglie una donna incinta; e non potranno sfuggire.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.	4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, cosicché quel giorno possa sorprendervi come un ladro.
5 For all you are the children of light, and children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do; but let us watch, and be sober.	5 Infatti siete tutti figli della luce e figli del giorno; noi non apparteniamo alla notte, né alle tenebre.

7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunk, are drunk in the night.	7 Quelli che dormono, infatti, dormono di notte; e quelli che si ubriacano, di notte si ubriacano.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, having on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.	8 Noi invece, che apparteniamo al giorno, siamo sobri, vestiti con la corazza della fede e della carità, e avendo come elmo la speranza della salvezza.
9 For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but unto the purchasing of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Dio infatti non ci ha destinati alla sua ira, ma ad ottenere la salvezza per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
10 Who died for us; that, whether we watch or sleep, we may live together with him.	10 Egli è morto per noi perché, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.
11 For which cause comfort one another; and edify one another, as you also do.	11 Perciò confortatevi a vicenda e siate di aiuto gli uni agli altri, come già fate.
12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you:	12 Vi preghiamo, fratelli, di avere riguardo per quelli che faticano tra voi, che vi fanno da guida nel Signore e vi ammoniscono;
13 That you esteem them more abundantly in charity, for their work's sake. Have peace with them.	13 trattateli con molto rispetto e amore, a motivo del loro lavoro. Vivete in pace tra voi.
14 And we beseech you, brethren, rebuke the unquiet, comfort the feeble minded, support the weak, be patient towards all men.	14 Vi esortiamo, fratelli: ammonite chi è indisciplinato, fate coraggio a chi è scoraggiato, sostenete chi è debole, siate magnanimi con tutti.
15 See that none render evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good towards each other, and towards all men.	15 Badate che nessuno renda male per male ad alcuno, ma cercate sempre il bene tra voi e con tutti.
16 Always rejoice.	16 Siate sempre lieti,
17 Pray without ceasing.	17 pregate ininterrottamente,
18 In all things give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you all.	18 in ogni cosa rendete grazie: questa infatti è volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù verso di voi.
19 Extinguish not the spirit.	19 Non spegnete lo Spirito,
20 Despise not prophecies.	20 non disprezzate le profezie.
21 But prove all things; hold fast that which is good.	21 Vagliate ogni cosa e tenete ciò che è buono.
22 From all appearance of evil refrain yourselves.	22 Astenetevi da ogni specie di male.
23 And may the God of peace himself sanctify you in all things; that your whole spirit, and soul, and body, may be preserved blameless in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Il Dio della pace vi santifichi interamente, e tutta la vostra persona, spirito, anima e corpo, si conservi irreprensibile per la venuta del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 He is faithful who hath called you, who also will do it.	24 Degno di fede è colui che vi chiama: egli farà tutto questo!
25 Brethren, pray for us.	25 Fratelli, pregate anche per noi.
26 Salute all the brethren with a holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con il bacio santo.
27 I charge you by the Lord, that this epistle be read to all the holy brethren.	27 Vi scongiuro, per il Signore, che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.	28 La grazia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi.
