1 DOPO questo, Giobbe aprì la sua bocca, e maledisse il suo giorno.	1 After this Job opened his mouth, and cursed his day,
2 E prese a dire:	2 and he said:
3 Possa perire il giorno nel quale io nacqui, E la notte che fu detto: Un maschio è nato.	3 Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said: A man child is conceived.
4 Quel giorno sia tenebroso; Iddio non ne abbia cura da alto, E non risplenda la luce sopra esso.	4 Let that day be turned into darkness, let not God regard it from above, and let not the light shine upon it.
5 Tenebre, ed ombra di morte rendanlo immondo; La nuvola dimori sopra esso; Queste cose rendanlo spaventevole, quali sono i giorni più acerbi.	5 Let darkness, and the shadow of death cover it, let a mist overspread it, and let it be wrapped up in bitterness.
6 Caligine ingombri quella notte; Non rallegrisi fra i giorni dell’anno, Non sia annoverata fra i mesi.	6 Let a darksome whirlwind seize upon that night, let it not be counted in the days of the year, nor numbered in the months.
7 Ecco, quella notte sia solitaria, Non facciansi in essa canti alcuni.	7 Let that night be solitary, and not worthy of praise.
8 Maledicanla coloro che maledicono i giorni, I quali son sempre apparecchiati a far nuovi lamenti.	8 Let them curse it who curse the day. who are ready to raise up a leviathan:
9 Oscurinsi le stelle del suo vespro; Aspetti la luce, ma non ne venga alcuna, E non vegga le palpebre dell’alba;	9 Let the stars be darkened with the mist thereof: let it expect light and not see it, nor the rising of the dawning of the day:
10 Perciocchè non serrò gli usci del seno di mia madre, E non fece sì che gli occhi miei non vedessero l’affanno	10 Because it shut not up the doors of the womb that bore me, nor took away evils from my eyes.
11 Perchè non morii io dalla matrice? Perchè non trapassai come prima uscii del seno?	11 Why did I not die in the womb, why did I not perish when I came out of the belly?
12 Perchè mi furono pòrte le ginocchia? Perchè le mammelle, acciocchè io poppassi?	12 Why received upon the knees? why suckled at the breasts ?
13 Conciossiachè ora giacerei, e mi riposerei; Io dormirei, e pezzo fa sarei in riposo,	13 For now I should have been asleep and still, and should have rest in my sleep.
14 Con i re, e con i consiglieri della terra, I quali edificavano i luoghi deserti;	14 With kings and consuls of the earth, who build themselves solitudes:
15 Ovvero co’ principi, che aveano dell’oro, Ed empievano le lor case d’argento;	15 Or with princes, that possess gold, and All their houses with silver:
16 Ovvero anche del tutto non sarei stato, come un abortivo nascosto, Come il feto che non ha veduta la luce.	16 Or as a hidden untimely birth I should not be, or as they that being conceived have not seen the light.
17 Quivi cessano gli empi di travagliare altrui, E quivi si riposano gli stanchi.	17 There the wicked cease from tumult, and there the wearied in strength are at rest.
18 Parimente i prigioni hanno requie, E non odono più la voce del sollecitator delle opere.	18 And they sometime bound together without disquiet, have not heard the voice of the oppressor.
19 Quivi è il piccolo e il grande; E il servo franco del suo signore	19 The small and great are there, and the servant is free from his master.
20 Perchè dà egli la luce al miserabile, E la vita a coloro che sono in amaritudine d’animo?	20 Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to them that are in bitterness of soul?
21 I quali aspettano la morte, e pure ella non viene; E la ricercano più che tesori nascosti;	21 That look for death, and it cometh not, as they that dig for a treasure:
22 E si rallegrano, fino a festeggiarne, E gioiscono, quando hanno trovato il sepolcro.	22 And they rejoice exceedingly when they have found the grave.
23 Perchè dà egli la luce all’uomo, la cui via è nascosta, E il quale Iddio ha assiepato d’ogn’intorno?	23 To a man whose way is hidden, and God hath surrounded him with darkness?
24 Conciossiachè, avanti che io prenda il mio cibo, il mio sospiro venga, E i miei ruggiti si versino come acqua.	24 Before I eat I sigh: and as overflowing waters, so is my roaring:
25 Perchè ciò di che io avea spavento mi è avvenuto, E mi è sopraggiunto quello di che avea paura.	25 For the fear which I feared hath come upon me: and that which I was afraid of, hath befallen me.
26 Io non ho avuta tranquillità, nè riposo, nè quiete; Ed è venuto il turbamento	26 Have I not dissembled ? have I not kept silence ? have I not been quiet? and indignation is come upon me.
