BIBBIA VOLGARE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Lo firmamento dell' altezza è sua bellezza; [la bellezza] del cielo nella visione della gloria.	1 Pride of the heights, a clear vault of the sky -- such is the beauty of the heavens, a glorious sight.
2 Il sole nella sua veduta, annunziante nell' uscimento, vaso maraviglioso, l' opera di Dio eccelso.	2 The sun, as he emerges, proclaims at his rising, 'How wonderful a thing, the work of the Most High!'
3 Che nel meridiano circolo arde la terra; e chi potrà nel cospetto dell' ardore suo sostenere? La fornace sua guardando nell'opera dello ardore;	3 At his zenith, he parches the ground, who can withstand his blaze?
4 tre cotanti il sole ardendo li monti, soffiando raggi affogati e risplendendo colli suoi raggi, acceca gli occhi.	4 We have to blow the furnace to produce any heat, the sun burns the mountains three times as much;breathing out blasts of fire, flashing his rays, he dazzles the eyes.
5 Grande è Iddio il quale fece quello, e festinò il suo viaggio nelle opere sue.	5 Great is the Lord who created him and whose word speeds him on his course.
6 E la luna in tutte le cose nel tempo suo, e dimostramento del tempo sì è segnale del secolo.	6 And then the moon, ever punctual to mark the times, an everlasting sign:
7 E dalla luna è il segno del dì della festa; egli è luminare il quale scema nel compimento.	7 It is the moon that signals the feasts, a luminary that wanes after being ful .
8 Egli è denominato il mese secondo il nome suo; e crescendo e decrescendo, se ne maravigliano molti.	8 The month derives its name from hers, she waxes wonderful y in her phases, banner of the hosts onhigh, shining in the vault of heaven.
9 O vaso de' campi militari, risplendente nel firmamento del cielo!	9 The glory of the stars makes the beauty of the sky, a brilliant adornment of the Lord on High.
10 La bellezza del cielo è dalla gloria delle stelle, il Signore illuminando il mondo dal cielo.	10 At the words of the Holy One they stand as he decrees, and never grow slack at their watch.
11 Nelle parole (di Dio) i santi staranno al giudicio, e non falliranno nelle vigilie sue.	11 See the rainbow and praise its Maker, so superbly beautiful in its splendour.
12 Vedi l'arco (del cielo), e benedici colui che il fece; egli è molto bello nello splendore suo.	12 Across the sky it forms a glorious arc drawn by the hands of the Most High.
13 Giroe il cielo nel cerchiamento della gloria sua; le mani di Dio l' apersono.	13 By his command he sends the snow, he speeds the lightning by his command.
14 Con lo suo comandamento (Iddio) mandoe la neve; e affretta di mandare li lampi del suo giudicio.	14 In the same way, his treasuries open and the clouds fly out like birds.
15 Imperciò sono aperti li tesori (suoi), e volarono li nuvoli sì come uccelli.	15 His great power solidifies the clouds, then pulverises them into hail.
16 Egli puose nella sua grandezza li nuvoli, e spezzaronsi in pezzi della gragnuola (dinanzi da lui per li suoi comandamenti).	16 at the sight of him, the mountains quake. At his wil the south wind blows,or the storm from the northand the whirlwind.
17 E dinanzi da lui si commoveranno li monti; il vento trarrae secondo la volontade sua.	17 At the roar of his thunder, the earth writhes in labour,
18 La voce del suo tuono battè la terra; la tempesta d' aquilone, e la radunanza de' venti.	18 He sprinkles snow like birds alighting, it comes down like locusts settling. The eye marvels at thebeauty of its whiteness, and the mind is amazed at its falling.
19 E sì come uccello ponendosi a sedere spande neve, e sì come locusta (cioè grillo) cadendo nel suo discendere.	19 Over the earth, like salt, he also pours hoarfrost, which, when it freezes, bristles like thorns.
20 L'occhio si maraviglierae della bellezza del suo colore; il cuore ismarrirae sopra la sua pioggia.	20 The cold wind blows from the north, and ice forms on the water; it forms on every piece of standingwater, covering it like a breastplate.
21 Ispanderae in su la terra freddo, sì come sale; e da che elli si raggelerae, sarà sì come le cime del cardo.	21 The wind swal ows up the mountains and scorches the desert, like a fire it consumes the vegetation.
22 Il vento freddo da tramontana trasse; il cristallo si congelò nell' acqua; egli si riposa sopra ogni raccoglimento d'acqua, e vestirassi dell' acque, sì come d' una lorica.	22 But cloud brings swift healing, and dew brings joy after the heat.
23 E divorerae li monti, e arderae il deserto, e spegnerae la verdezza sì come fuoco.	23 By his own resourcefulness he has tamed the abyss, and planted it with islands.
24 La medicina di tutti è nell' affrettamento de' nuvoli; la rugiada scontrata dallo ardore vegnente farà umile colui.	24 Those who sail the sea tell of its dangers, their accounts fill our ears with amazement:
25 Il vento taceo nella parola sua; nel suo pensiero abbonacciò il mare; il Signore isole piantò [in] quello.	25 for there too exist strange and wonderful works, animals of every kind and huge sea creatures.
26 Coloro che nàvicano il mare, raccontano il pericolo di quello; noi (uomini) udendolo (non) ce ne maraviglieremo.	26 Thanks to God, his messenger reaches port, everything works out according to his word.
27 Quivi sono le nobilissime e mirabili opere (di Dio); varie generazioni di bestie e di tutti li animali, e le creature delle belve.	27 We could say much more and stil fal short; to put it concisely, 'He is al .'
28 Per lui è compiuto il fine del viaggio, e tutte le cose sono ordinate nella sua parola.	28 Where shall we find sufficient power to glorify him, since he is the Great One, above al his works,
29 Noi diremo molte cose, e mancheremo nel dire; ma la fine e compimento delli sermoni sì è Iddio.	29 the awe-inspiring Lord, stupendously great, and wonderful in his power?
30 Gloriandolo noi (in tutte le cose) a che valeremo (e potremo)? (Quasi dica: non siamo sufficienti, però ch' ) egli è onnipotente sopra le opere sue.	30 Exalt the Lord in your praises as high as you may -- stil he surpasses you. Exert al your strengthwhen you exalt him, do not grow tired -- you wil never come to the end.
31 Terribile è il Signore, e fortemente grande, e mirabile nella sua potenza.	31 Who has ever seen him to describe him? Who can glorify him as he deserves?
32 Glorificando noi il Signore quantunque noi potremo, ancora varrà egli (e potrà) più, e maravigliosa è la sua magnificenza.	32 Many mysteries remain even greater than these, for we have seen only a few of his works,
33 Benedicete il Signore, ed esaltatelo quanto potete; però ch' egli è maggiore d' ogni laude.	33 the Lord himself having created al things and given wisdom to those who are devout.
34 Esaltando lui, vi riempierete di virtude; non vi affaticate, però che voi non vi aggiugnerete.
35 Or chi vede Iddio e raccontalo? e chi è colui che il magnificò sì com' elli è dal principio?
36 Molte cose sono nascose, maggiori di queste; poche vedemmo delle sue opere.
37 Iddio fece tutte le cose, e diede sapienza a coloro che pietosamente adòperano.
