1 In tre cose s'è compiaciuto l'animo mio, le quali sono laudate dinanzi da Dio e dalli uomini;	1 My spirit is pleased with three things; these are approved in the sight of God and men:
2 cioè, la concordia de' fratelli, e l'amore del prossimo, e il marito e la moglie che si consentano insieme.	2 the harmony of brothers, and the love of neighbors, and a husband and wife agreeing well together.
3 Tre specie di genti ebbe in odio l'anima mia, e sono molto gravato dell' animo di coloro;	3 My soul hates three kinds of things; and I am greatly distressed over their souls:
4 cioè, povero superbo, ricco bugiardo, vecchio pazzo e disensato.	4 an arrogant pauper, a wealthy liar, a foolish and senseless elder.
5 Tu che non radunasti nella giovinezza tua, come troverai nella vecchiezza tua?	5 The things that you have not obtained in your youth, how will you find them in your old age?
6 Come è bella cosa alla canizie il giudicio, e dell' antico conoscere il consiglio!	6 How beautiful it is for a grey head to have judgment, and for elders to know counsel!
7 E come è bellissima alli antichi la sapienza, e il glorioso intelletto e il consiglio!	7 How beautiful it is for those who are aged to have wisdom, and for those who are honored to have understanding and counsel!
8 La corona de' vecchi è il molto sapere; e la gloria loro è il timore di Dio.	8 Great experience is the crown of the aged, and the fear of God is their glory.
9 Io magnificai nove cose del cuore da non sospicarle; e la decima cosa diroe nella lingua degli uomini:	9 I have magnified nine things, overlooked by the heart; and a tenth, I will declare to men with my tongue:
10 l' uomo lo quale vivendo s' allegra ne' suoi figliuoli, vedendo la sovversione delli suoi inimici.	10 a man who finds joy in his children, and one who lives to see the undoing of his enemies.
11 Beato colui che abita colla femina savia, e colui che per la lingua sua non è caduto, e colui che non servì a coloro ch' erano indegni di lui.	11 Blessed is he who lives with a wise wife, and he who has not slipped with his tongue, and he who has not served those unworthy of himself.
12 Beato colui che ha trovato vero amico, e colui che parla giustizia a colui che l'ascolta.	12 Blessed is he who finds a true friend, and he who describes justice to an attentive ear.
13 Come è grande colui che trovò sapienza e scienza! ma egli non è maggiore di coloro che temono Iddio.	13 How great is he who finds wisdom and knowledge! But there is no one above him who fears the Lord.
14 Il timore di Dio si puose sopra tutte le cose.	14 The fear of God has set itself above all things.
15 Beato è colui a cui è donato d' avere il timore di Dio; e colui che teme Iddio, a cui sarà egli assomigliato?	15 Blessed is the man to whom it has been given to have the fear of God. He who holds to it, to whom can he be compared?
16 Lo timore di Dio è il principio del suo amore; ma il principio della fede è proprio a congiugnerlo a lui.	16 The fear of God is the beginning of his love; and the beginning of faith has been joined closely to the same.
17 Ogni piaga è tristizia del cuore; e ogni malizia si è riezza della femina.	17 The sadness of the heart is every wound. And the wickedness of a wife is every malice.
18 E vederà ogni piaga, e non piaga del cuore;	18 And a man will choose any wound, but the wound of the heart,
19 e ogni riezza, e non riezza della femina;	19 and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a wife,
20 e ogni rancore, e non rancore di coloro che odiano;	20 and any obstacle, but the obstacle of those who hate him,
21 e ogni vendetta, e non vendetta de' nimici.	21 and any vindication, but the vindication of his enemies.
22 Non è capo più malvagio, che quello del serpente;	22 There is no head worse than the head of a serpent,
23 e non è ira sopra l'ira della femina. Più mi piacerebbe di abitare con leoni e draconi, che abitare con femina mala.	23 and there is no anger above the anger of a wife. It would be more agreeable to abide with a lion or a dragon, than to live with a wicked wife.
24 La riezza della femina muta la faccia sua, e sì come orso diserta il volto suo, e sì come uno sacco dimostralo. In mezzo delli prossimi suoi	24 A wicked wife changes her face. And she darkens her countenance like a bear. And she displays it like sackcloth. In the midst of her neighbors,
25 pianse il marito suo, e udendo sospiroe uno poco.	25 her husband groans, and hearing of this, he sighs a little.
26 Ogni malizia è picciola, rispetto alla malizia della femina; la parte de' peccatori caggia sopra lei.	26 All malice is brief compared to the malice of a wife. Let the fate of sinners fall upon her!
27 Come lo salire arenoso è nelli piedi del veterano, così è la femina allinguata all' uomo pacifico.	27 As climbing over sand is to the feet of the aged, so is a talkative wife to a quiet man.
28 Non guardare nella bellezza della femina, e non desiderare la femina nella bellezza sua.	28 You should not favor a woman’s beauty, and you should not desire a wife for her beauty.
29 L'ira della femina (nella faccia sua) e grande irreverenza e grande confusione.	29 The anger and disrespect and shame from a wife can be great.
30 La femina, s'ella averae principato, sarà contraria al marito suo.	30 The wife, if she has primacy, is set against her husband.
31 Cuore umile e faccia trista e piaga di morte è la femina malvagia.	31 A wicked wife debases the heart, and saddens the face, and wounds the heart.
32 Mano debile, ginocchia dinervate, si è la femina che non beatifica il suo marito.	32 A wife who does not make her husband happy enfeebles the hands and weakens the knees.
33 Il principio del peccato fu fatto dalla femina, e per lei tutti morremo.	33 The beginning of sin came from a woman; and through her, we all die.
34 Non dare all' acqua tua uscita, eziandio poca; nè alla cattiva femina concedere licenza d' uscire fuori.	34 You should not provide an exit to your water, not even a little; nor should you give permission for a wicked wife to exceed the limit.
35 Se ella non anderae a lato alla tua mano, ella ti confonderae nel conspetto de' tuoi nimici.	35 If she will not walk at your hand, she will confound you in the sight of your enemies.
36 Tagliala dalla carne tua, acciò ch' ella non ti usi in mala carne sempre.	36 Tear her away from your body, lest she abuse you continually.
