Siamo decisi a bruciare la tua casa con te dentro!". | 1 The men of Ephraim were called to arms, and they crossed to Zaphon and said to Jephthah, "Why did you cross over to fight against the Ammonites, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house over you with fire." |
| 2 Iefte rispose loro: "Io e il mio popolo, duramente oppressi dagli Ammoniti, eravamo in una situazione tanto grave che chiesi il vostro aiuto, ma non mi avete salvato dalle loro mani. | 2 And Jephthah said to them, "I and my people had a great feud with the Ammonites; and when I called you, you did not deliver me from their hand. |
| 3 Allora, resomi conto che non c'era nessuno che mi avrebbe salvato, mi buttai allo sbaraglio assalendo gli Ammoniti: il Signore li ha dati in mia mano. Che motivo avete dunque oggi per muovermi guerra?". | 3 And when I saw that you would not deliver me, I took my life in my hand, and crossed over against the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into my hand; why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?" |
| 4 Iefte, chiamati a raccolta tutti gli uomini del Gàlaad, dette battaglia ad Efraim e i Galaaditi sconfissero quelli di Efraim, che li avevano assaliti perché li consideravano loro ribelli, gente che apparteneva ad Efraim e a Manasse. | 4 Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, "You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim and Manasseh." |
