| 6 Ma il Signore rassicurò Giosuè: "Non aver timore di quelli, perché domani, alla stessa ora, io li mostrerò tutti uccisi davanti a Israele; farai tagliare i garretti ai loro cavalli e farai bruciare i loro carri". | 6 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel; you shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire." |
| 7 Così Giosuè e con lui tutti quelli atti alla guerra piombarono all'improvviso su di loro presso le acque di Merom e li assalirono. | 7 So Joshua came suddenly upon them with all his people of war, by the waters of Merom, and fell upon them. |
| 8 Il Signore li dette in mano d'Israele, che li batté e li inseguì fino a Sidone la Grande e sino a Misrefot-Maim e fino nella vallata di Mizpa verso oriente, facendone una strage tale da non lasciarne uno superstite. | 8 And the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel, who smote them and chased them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the valley of Mizpeh; and they smote them, until they left none remaining. |
| 9 Giosuè li trattò secondo quanto aveva detto il Signore, fece tagliare i garretti ai loro cavalli e fece bruciare i loro carri. | 9 And Joshua did to them as the LORD bade him; he hamstrung their horses, and burned their chariots with fire. |
| 10 In quello stesso tempo Giosuè, voltandosi, prese Azor e uccise di spada il suo re, perché Azor era stata già la capitale di tutti quei regni. | 10 And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the head of all those kingdoms. |
| 11 Passò a fil di spada tutti quelli che vi si trovavano, votandoli allo sterminio; non lasciò anima viva e fece dar fuoco ad Azor. | 11 And they put to the sword all who were in it, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed, and he burned Hazor with fire. |
| 12 Giosuè prese tutte le città di quei re e tutti i loro re e li passò a fil di spada, votandoli allo sterminio, come aveva ordinato Mosè, servo del Signore. | 12 And all the cities of those kings, and all their kings, Joshua took, and smote them with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded. |
| 13 Israele però non bruciò nessuna delle città che stavano sulle loro colline, ad eccezione di Azor, che Giosuè fece bruciare. | 13 But none of the cities that stood on mounds did Israel burn, except Hazor only; that Joshua burned. |
| 14 Tutto il bottino di quelle città e il bestiame i figli d'Israele lo saccheggiarono per sé, ma passarono a fil di spada tutti gli uomini, fino a sterminarli tutti, senza lasciare anima viva. | 14 And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the people of Israel took for their booty; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, and they did not leave any that breathed. |
| 15 Come aveva ordinato il Signore al suo servo Mosè, così comandò Mosè a Giosuè e così fece Giosuè: non trascurò nulla di quello che il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè. | 15 As the LORD had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses. |
| 16 Così Giosuè prese tutto quel paese: le montagne, tutto il Negheb, tutta la terra di Gosen, il bassopiano, l'Araba, le montagne d'Israele e i loro bassipiani. | 16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill country and all the Negeb and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill country of Israel and its lowland |

| 18 Molto tempo Giosuè ebbe a combattere con tutti quei re. | 18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. |
| 19 Non ci fu una città che abbia fatto pace con i figli d'Israele, eccetto gli Evei che abitavano in Gabaon; perciò le presero tutte combattendo. | 19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle. |
| 20 Tale era infatti il disegno del Signore, che il loro cuore si ostinasse a proclamare la guerra a Israele, affinché venissero votati allo sterminio senza pietà di loro e fossero estirpati, come aveva comandato il Signore a Mosè. | 20 For it was the LORD's doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be utterly destroyed, and should receive no mercy but be exterminated, as the LORD commanded Moses. |
| 21 In quel tempo Giosuè si mosse e sterminò anche gli Anakiti dalle montagne: da Ebron, da Debir, da Anab, da tutte le montagne di Giuda e da tutta la parte montana d'Israele e li votò, con le loro città, allo sterminio. | 21 And Joshua came at that time, and wiped out the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. |
| 22 Non rimasero Anakiti nella terra dei figli d'Israele; rimasero soltanto a Gaza, a Gat e in Asdod. | 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain. |
| 23 Giosuè così occupò tutto il paese, come aveva detto il Signore a Mosè e a Giosuè, e lo dette in eredità a Israele, secondo la loro ripartizione in tribù.
