| 1 Diceva ancora loro: "In verità vi dico che vi sono qui alcuni dei presenti, i quali non subiranno la morte finché non avranno veduto il regno di Dio venuto con potenza". | 1 And he said to them, "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power." |
| 2 Sei giorni dopo Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni e li condusse in disparte, essi soli, su un alto monte, dove si trasfigurò davanti a loro. | 2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them, |
| 3 Le sue vesti divennero splendenti e talmente candide, che nessun lavandaio sulla terra potrebbe renderle così candide. | 3 and his garments became glistening, intensely white, as no fuller on earth could bleach them. |
| 4 Ed apparve loro Elia con Mosè, i quali conversavano con Gesù. | 4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus. |
| 5 Allora Pietro, prendendo la parola, disse a Gesù: "Maestro, è bello per noi stare qui! Facciamo tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia". | 5 And Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah." |
| 6 In realtà egli non sapeva quel che diceva, poiché erano stati presi dal timore. | 6 For he did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid. |
| 7 Allora comparve una nuvola che li avvolse nella sua ombra e dalla nuvola si sentì una voce: "Questi è il mio Figlio diletto: ascoltatelo!". | 7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him." |
| 8 Ed essi, tutto a un tratto, guardandosi attorno, non videro più alcuno, se non il solo Gesù, che era con loro. | 8 And suddenly looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only. |
| 9 Quando poi discesero dal monte, Gesù comandò loro di non raccontare a nessuno ciò che avevano visto, fino a quando il Figlio dell'uomo non fosse risuscitato dai morti. | 9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead. |
| 10 Essi osservarono l'ordine, ma intanto si chiedevano tra loro che cosa significasse quel risorgere dai morti. | 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant. |
| 11 Quindi lo interrogarono: "Perché gli scribi dicono che prima deve venire Elia?". | 11 And they asked him, "Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?" |
| 12 Rispose loro: "Certo, verrà prima Elia e rimetterà a posto ogni cosa. Ma come sta scritto del Figlio dell'uomo, egli dovrà soffrire molto ed essere disprezzato. | 12 And he said to them, "Elijah does come first to restore all things; and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? |
| 13 Io, però, vi dico che Elia è già venuto e gli hanno fatto tutto ciò che hanno voluto, secondo quanto di lui sta scritto". | 13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him." |
| 14 Raggiunti gli altri discepoli, videro intorno ad essi una grande folla e gli scribi che discutevano con loro. | 14 And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd about them, and scribes arguing with them. |
| 15 Non appena lo scorsero, quelli della folla restarono tutti meravigliati e corsero a salutarlo. | 15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed, and ran up to him and greeted him. |
| 16 Allora egli domandò loro: "Di che state discutendo con loro?". | 16 And he asked them, "What are you discussing with them?" |
| 17 Gli rispose uno della folla: "Maestro, ti ho portato mio figlio, che è posseduto da uno spirito muto, | 17 And one of the crowd answered him, "Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a dumb spirit; |
| 18 il quale, quando lo afferra, lo sbatte di là e di qua ed egli emette schiuma, digrigna i denti e poi diventa rigido. Ho chiesto ai tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti". | 18 and wherever it seizes him, it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able." |
| 19 Allora egli disse loro: "Generazione incredula! Fino a quando dovrò restare tra voi? Fino a quando dovrò sopportarvi? Portatelo qui da me!". | 19 And he answered them, "O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me." |
| 20 Glielo portarono; ma lo spirito, non appena lo vide, subito agitò il ragazzo, il quale cadde a terra e vi si rotolava con la bava alla bocca. | 20 And they brought the boy to him; and when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. |
| 21 Allora egli domandò al padre di lui: "Da quanto tempo gli succede questo?". Rispose: "Fin dall'infanzia. | 21 And Jesus asked his father, "How long has he had this?" And he said, "From childhood. |
| 22 Molte volte lo ha gettato anche sul fuoco e nell'acqua per farlo morire. Ma ora, se tu puoi fare qualche cosa, abbi pietà di noi e aiutaci!". | 22 And it has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us." |
| 23 Gli disse Gesù: "Se puoi...? Tutto è possibile a chi crede!". | 23 And Jesus said to him, "If you can! All things are possible to him who believes." |
| 24 Subito il padre del ragazzo ad alta voce disse: "Io credo, ma tu aiuta la mia incredulità". | 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!" |
| 25 Gesù, allora, vedendo che la folla accorreva, con tono minaccioso disse allo spirito immondo: "Spirito muto e sordo, io te lo ordino: esci da costui e non rientrarci più!". | 25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again." |
| 26 Quello, urlando e scuotendolo con violenza, ne uscì, lasciandolo come morto, sicché molti dicevano: "E' morto!". | 26 And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse; so that most of them said, "He is dead." |
| 27 Gesù, però, prendendolo per mano, lo sollevò ed egli stette in piedi. | 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. |
| 28 Quando in seguito fu rientrato in casa, i suoi discepoli gli domandarono in disparte: "Perché noi non siamo riusciti a scacciarlo?". | 28 And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?" |
| 29 Rispose loro: "Questo genere di demòni non può essere scacciato con nessun altro mezzo, se non con la preghiera". | 29 And he said to them, "This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting." |
| 30 Partiti di là, andavano attraverso la Galilea, ma egli non voleva che alcuno lo sapesse. | 30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he would not have any one know it; |
| 31 Infatti, stava ammaestrando i suoi discepoli e diceva loro: "Il Figlio dell'uomo sarà consegnato nelle mani degli uomini, che lo uccideranno; ma, ucciso, dopo tre giorni risorgerà". | 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise." |
| 32 Essi, però, non compresero tali parole e avevano paura di interrogarlo. | 32 But they did not understand the saying, and they were afraid to ask him. |
| 33 Giunsero a Cafarnao e quando fu in casa domandò loro: "Di che cosa discutevate per via?". | 33 And they came to Caperna-um; and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you discussing on the way?" |
| 34 Essi, però, tacquero, perché per via avevano discusso tra loro su chi fosse il più grande. | 34 But they were silent; for on the way they had discussed with one another who was the greatest. |
| 35 Allora, postosi a sedere, chiamò i Dodici e disse loro: "Se uno vuole essere primo, sia ultimo di tutti e servo di tutti". | 35 And he sat down and called the twelve; and he said to them, "If any one would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." |
| 36 Quindi, preso un bambino, lo pose in mezzo a loro e stringendolo fra le braccia disse loro: | 36 And he took a child, and put him in the midst of them; and taking him in his arms, he said to them, |
| 37 "Chi accoglie uno di questi bambini in nome mio, accoglie me e chi accoglie me non accoglie me, ma colui che mi ha mandato". | 37 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me." |
| 38 Gli disse Giovanni: "Maestro, abbiamo visto un tale scacciare i demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo proibito, perché egli non viene insieme a noi". | 38 John said to him, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us." |
| 39 Gli rispose Gesù: "Non glielo proibite, poiché non c'è nessuno che operi un miracolo in mio nome, il quale possa subito dopo parlare male di me. | 39 But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. |
| 40 Infatti chi non è contro di noi, è per noi. | 40 For he that is not against us is for us. |
| 41 Poiché chi vi darà da bere un bicchiere d'acqua nel mio nome perché siete di Cristo, in verità vi dico che non perderà la sua ricompensa". | 41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward. |
| 42 "Chi poi avrà scandalizzato uno di questi piccoli che credono, sarebbe meglio per lui che gli si appendesse al collo una pietra da mulino e fosse gettato in mare. | 42 "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea. |
| 43 Ché, se la tua mano ti è di scandalo, tàgliala! E' meglio per te entrare monco nella vita, che andare con tutte e due le mani nella Geenna, nel fuoco inestinguibile. | 43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. |
| 44 . |
| 45 Parimenti, se il tuo piede ti è di scandalo, tàglialo! E' meglio per te entrare zoppo nella vita, che essere gettato con tutti e due i piedi nella Geenna. | 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. |
| 46 . |
| 47 Ancora: se il tuo occhio ti è di scandalo, càvalo! E' meglio per te entrare con un occhio solo nel regno di Dio, che essere gettato con tutti e due gli occhi nella Geenna, | 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, |
| 48 dove il loro verme non muore e il fuoco non si estingue. | 48 where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. |
| 49 Poiché si dovrà essere tutti salati con il fuoco. | 49 For every one will be salted with fire. |
| 50 Il sale è cosa buona, ma se il sale diventa insipido, con che cosa gli ridarete sapore? Abbiate sale in voi stessi e state in pace gli uni con gli altri". | 50 Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its saltness, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another." |
