| 4 e chi onora la madre accumula tesori. | 4 and whoever glorifies his mother is like one who lays up treasure. |
| 5 Chi rispetta il padre avrà gioia dai figli e nel giorno della sua preghiera sarà esaudito. | 5 Whoever honors his father will be gladdened by his own children, and when he prays he will be heard. |
| 6 Chi onora il padre avrà lunga vita, chi è docile al Signore conforta la madre. | 6 Whoever glorifies his father will have long life, and whoever obeys the Lord will refresh his mother; |
| 7 Chi teme il Signore onora il padre e serve i genitori come padroni. | 7 he will serve his parents as his masters. |
| 8 Onora tuo padre con l'opera e la parola, perché passi su di te la sua benedizione: | 8 Honor your father by word and deed, that a blessing from him may come upon you. |
| 9 la benedizione del padre rinvigorisce le case dei figli, la maledizione della madre ne sradica le fondamenta. | 9 For a father's blessing strengthens the houses of the children, but a mother's curse uproots their foundations. |
| 10 Non puoi essere fiero se tuo padre è nel disonore, il suo disonore non è per te una gloria: | 10 Do not glorify yourself by dishonoring your father, for your father's dishonor is no glory to you. |
| 11 è gloria per un uomo la reputazione del padre ed è obbrobrio per i figli la madre disprezzata. | 11 For a man's glory comes from honoring his father, and it is a disgrace for children not to respect their mother. |
| 12 Figlio, abbi cura del padre nella sua vecchiaia e non affliggerlo finché è in vita; | 12 O son, help your father in his old age, and do not grieve him as long as he lives; |
| 13 anche se perde il sentimento compatiscilo, non disprezzarlo solo perché tu sei nel pieno vigore. | 13 even if he is lacking in understanding, show forbearance; in all your strength do not despise him. |
| 14 La compassione per il padre non sarà dimenticata, sarà un tesoro per espiare i peccati; | 14 For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, and against your sins it will be credited to you; |
| 15 nel giorno della tua tribolazione sarà ricordata, e come brina sotto il sole si scioglieranno i tuoi peccati. | 15 in the day of your affliction it will be remembered in your favor; as frost in fair weather, your sins will melt away. |
| 16 Abbandonare il padre è come bestemmiare, il Signore maledice chi amareggia la madre. | 16 Whoever forsakes his father is like a blasphemer, and whoever angers his mother is cursed by the Lord. |
| 17 Figlio, compi le tue opere con senso di modestia, perché sarai amato più di chi è munifico. | 17 My son, perform your tasks in meekness; then you will be loved by those whom God accepts. |
| 18 Quanto più sei grande, tanto più umilia te stesso, così troverai grazia al cospetto del Signore. | 18 The greater you are, the more you must humble yourself; so you will find favor in the sight of the Lord. |
| 19 Poiché grande è la potenza del Signore, | 19 . |
| 20 egli riceve gloria dagli umili. | 20 For great is the might of the Lord; he is glorified by the humble. |
| 21 Non cercare le cose troppo difficili, e non investigare quelle troppo oscure; | 21 Seek not what is too difficult for you, nor investigate what is beyond your power. |
| 22 le cose comandate, queste considera, perché non hai bisogno di quelle nascoste. | 22 Reflect upon what has been assigned to you, for you do not need what is hidden. |
| 23 Del superfluo, per la tua condotta, non occuparti, perché ti fu rivelato ciò che supera la mente umana. | 23 Do not meddle in what is beyond your tasks, for matters too great for human understanding have been shown you. |
| 24 La presunzione, infatti, ha ingannato molti, e la falsa illusione ha sedotto la loro ragione. | 24 For their hasty judgment has led many astray, and wrong opinion has caused their thoughts to slip. |
| 25 Il cuore indurito farà brutta fine, e chi ama il pericolo vi si perderà. | 25 . |
| 26 Il cuore indurito sarà oppresso dalle fatiche, e il peccatore aggiungerà peccato a peccato. | 26 A stubborn mind will be afflicted at the end, and whoever loves danger will perish by it. |

| 30 Chi ricambia col bene è ricordato anche dopo, e nel tempo della caduta troverà sostegno. | 30 Water extinguishes a blazing fire: so almsgiving atones for sin. |
| 31 Whoever requites favors gives thought to the future; at the moment of his falling he will find support. |
