1 Per tutto c'è il suo momento, un tempo per ogni cosa sotto il cielo:	1 All things have their time, and all things under heaven continue during their interval.
2 Tempo di nascere, tempo di morire, tempo di piantare, tempo di sradicare,	2 A time to be born, and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pull up what was planted.
3 tempo di uccidere, tempo di curare, tempo di demolire, tempo di costruire,	3 A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to tear down, and a time to build up.
4 tempo di piangere, tempo di ridere, tempo di lutto, tempo di allegria,	4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5 tempo di gettare, tempo di raccogliere, tempo di abbracciare, tempo di allontanarsi,	5 A time to scatter stones, and a time to gather. A time to embrace, and a time to be far from embraces.
6 tempo di guadagnare, tempo di perdere, tempo di conservare, tempo di gettare,	6 A time to gain, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away.
7 tempo di stracciare, tempo di cucire, tempo di tacere, tempo di parlare,	7 A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to be silent, and a time to speak.
8 tempo di amare, tempo di odiare, tempo di guerra, tempo di pace.	8 A time of love, and a time of hatred. A time of war, and a time of peace.
9 E che vantaggio viene all'uomo da tutto ciò che fa con fatica?	9 What more does a man have from his labor?
10 Ho osservato l'occupazione che Dio ha dato agli uomini perché vi si affatichino.	10 I have seen the affliction that God has given to the sons of men, in order that they may be occupied by it.
11 Tutto ciò che egli ha fatto è bello nel suo tempo: egli ha posto nell'uomo anche una certa visione d'insieme, senza però che gli riesca di afferrare da capo a fondo l'opera fatta da Dio.	11 He has made all things good in their time, and he has handed over the world to their disputes, so that man may not discover the work which God made from the beginning, even until the end.
12 Così ho capito che per l'uomo non c'è alcun bene se non starsene allegro e godersi la vita,	12 And I realize that there is nothing better than to rejoice, and to do well in this life.
13 e ho capito anche che il fatto che l'uomo mangi e beva e che abbia successo nella sua fatica, anche questo è dono di Dio.	13 For this is a gift from God: when each man eats and drinks, and sees the good results of his labor.
14 Ho capito che tutto ciò che Dio fa è per sempre, senza che vi si possa aggiungere o togliere niente. Dio ha fatto così per essere temuto.	14 I have learned that all the works which God has made continue on, in perpetuity. We are not able to add anything, nor to take anything away, from those things which God has made in order that he may be feared.
15 Ciò che già è stato, è; ciò che sarà, già fu. Dio riporta sempre ciò che è scomparso.	15 What has been made, the same continues. What is in the future, has already existed. And God restores what has passed away.
16 Un'altra cosa ho visto sotto il sole: al posto del diritto c'è l'iniquità, al posto della giustizia c'è l'iniquità.	16 I saw under the sun: instead of judgment, impiety, and instead of justice, iniquity.
17 Ne ho concluso che il giusto e l'empio sono sotto il giudizio di Dio, perché c'è un tempo per ogni cosa e un giudizio per ogni azione.	17 And I said in my heart: “God will judge the just and the impious, and then the time for each matter shall be.”
18 Ho pensato fra me a proposito degli uomini: Dio fa questo per provarli e per mostrare che essi, per sé, non sono che bestie.	18 I said in my heart, about the sons of men, that God would test them, and reveal them to be like wild animals.
19 Infatti la sorte degli uomini è la stessa che quella degli animali: come muoiono questi così muoiono quelli. Gli uni e gli altri hanno uno stesso soffio vitale, senza che l'uomo abbia nulla in più rispetto all'animale. Gli uni e gli altri sono vento vano.	19 For this reason, the passing away of man and of beasts is one, and the condition of both is equal. For as a man dies, so also do they die. All things breathe similarly, and man has nothing more than beast; for all these are subject to vanity.
20 Gli uni e gli altri vanno verso lo stesso luogo: gli uni e gli altri vengono dalla polvere, gli uni e gli altri tornano alla polvere.	20 And all things continue on to one place; for from the earth they were made, and unto the earth they shall return together.
21 Chi lo sa se lo spirito vitale dell'uomo sale in alto e se quello dell'animale scende sotterra!	21 Who knows if the spirit of the sons of Adam ascend upward, and if the spirit of the beasts descend downward?
22 Così ho compreso che non c'è alcun bene per l'uomo se non che egli goda di quello che fa, perché solo questo gli è concesso. Nessuno infatti lo porterà a vedere ciò che accadrà dopo di lui.	22 And I have discovered nothing to be better than for a man to rejoice in his work: for this is his portion. And who shall add to him, so that he may know the things that will occur after him?
