A Canticle Psalm. On the day of the Sabbath.1 You who live in the secret place of Elyon, spend your nights in the shelter of Shaddai,
It is good to confess to the Lord and to sing psalms to your name, O Most High:2 saying to Yahweh, 'My refuge, my fortress, my God in whom I trust!'
to announce your mercy in the morning, and your truth throughout the night,3 He rescues you from the snare of the fowler set on destruction;
upon the ten strings, upon the psaltery, with a canticle, upon stringed instruments.4 he covers you with his pinions, you find shelter under his wings. His constancy is shield andprotection.
For you, O Lord, have delighted me with your doings, and I will exult in the works of your hands.5 You need not fear the terrors of night, the arrow that flies in the daytime,
How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts have been made exceedingly deep.6 the plague that stalks in the darkness, the scourge that wreaks havoc at high noon.
A foolish man will not know these things, and a senseless one will not understand:7 Though a thousand fal at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, you yourself wil remainunscathed.
when sinners will have risen up like grass, and when all those who work iniquity will have appeared, that they shall pass away, age after age.8 You have only to keep your eyes open to see how the wicked are repaid,
But you, O Lord, are the Most High for all eternity.9 you who say, 'Yahweh my refuge!' and make Elyon your fortress.
For behold your enemies, O Lord, for behold your enemies will perish, and all those who work iniquity will be dispersed.10 No disaster can overtake you, no plague come near your tent;
And my horn will be exalted like that of the single-horned beast, and my old age will be exalted in fruitful mercy.11 he has given his angels orders about you to guard you wherever you go.
And my eye has looked down upon my enemies, and my ear will hear of the malignant rising up against me.12 They will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone.
The just one will flourish like the palm tree. He will be multiplied like the cedar of Lebanon.13 You wil walk upon wild beast and adder, you wil trample young lions and snakes.
Those planted in the house of the Lord will flourish in the courts of the house of our God.14 'Since he clings to me I rescue him, I raise him high, since he acknowledges my name.
They will still be multiplied in a fruitful old age, and they will endure well,15 He cal s to me and I answer him: in distress I am at his side, I rescue him and bring him honour.
so that they may announce that the Lord our God is righteous and that there is no iniquity in him.16 I shal satisfy him with long life, and grant him to see my salvation.'
