Levitico 26

1 Io il Signore Dio vostro: Non vi farete idoli, né statue, e non alzerete colonne, né pietre insigni nel vostro paese per adorarle. Perocché io sono il Signore Dio vostro.	1 "Do not make false gods for yourselves. You shall not erect an idol or a sacred pillar for yourselves, nor shall you set up a stone figure for worship in your land; for I, the LORD, am your God.
2 Osservate i miei sabati, e state in timore dinanzi al mio santuario. Io il Signore.	2 Keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary. I am the LORD.
3 Se camminerete ne' miei comandamenti, e osserverete le mie leggi, e le adempirete, io darovvi a’ suoi tempi le piogge,	3 "If you live in accordance with my precepts and are careful to observe my commandments,
4 E la terra produrrà i suoi germi, e le piante si caricheranno di frutti.	4 I will give you rain in due season, so that the land will bear its crops, and the trees their fruit;
5 La battitura delle messi incastrerà nella vendemmia, e nella vendemmia la sementa: e mangerete a sazietà il vostro pane; e abiterete senza timori nella vostra terra.	5 your threshing will last till vintage time, and your vintage till the time for sowing, and you will have food to eat in abundance, so that you may dwell securely in your land.
6 Dentro i vostri confini manterrò la pace: dormirete, e non sarà chi vi disturbi. Discaccerò le bestie nocive, e la spada non entrerà ne' vostri confini.	6 I will establish peace in the land, that you may lie down to rest without anxiety. I will rid the country of ravenous beasts, and keep the sword of war from sweeping across your land.
7 Voi darete dietro a’ vostri nemici, ed ei cadranno dinanzi a voi.	7 You will rout your enemies and lay them low with your sword.
8 Cinque di voi daranno addosso a cento stranieri, e cento di voi a dieci mila: cadranno i nemici sotto le vostre spade davanti a voi.	8 Five of you will put a hundred of your foes to flight, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand of them, till they are cut down by your sword.
9 Getterò il mio sguardo sopra di voi: farovvi crescere; e moltiplicherete, e raffermerò con voi la mia alleanza.	9 I will look with favor upon you, and make you fruitful and numerous, as I carry out my covenant with you.
10 Mangerete i prodotti già assai vecchi, e sopravvenendo abbondanza de' nuovi, metterete i vecchi fuora.	10 So much of the old crops will you have stored up for food that you will have to discard them to make room for the new.
11 Io porrò il mio tabernacolo in mezzo a voi, e l’anima mia non vi rigetterà.	11 I will set my Dwelling among you, and will not disdain you.
12 Camminerò tra voi, e sarò vostro Dio, e voi sarete mio popolo.	12 Ever present in your midst, I will be your God, and you will be my people;
13 Io il Signore Dio vostro, che vi ho tratti dalla terra degli Egiziani, affinché non foste schiavi loro, e spezzai le catene de' vostri colli, affinché camminaste a testa alzata.	13 for it is I, the LORD, your God, who brought you out of the land of the Egyptians and freed you from their slavery, breaking the yoke they had laid upon you and letting you walk erect.
14 Ma se non mi ascolterete, e non adempirete tutti i miei comandamenti,	14 "But if you do not heed me and do not keep all these commandments,
15 Se disprezzerete le mie leggi, e non farete caso dei miei giudizii, talmente che non facciate quello che è stato da me prescritto, e vano rendiate il mio patto;	15 if you reject my precepts and spurn my decrees, refusing to obey all my commandments and breaking my covenant,
16 Io pure tratterò con voi in tal guisa: Vi gastigherò prontamente colla penuria, e con un ardore, che seccherà i vostri occhi, e consumerà le vostre vite. Spargerete indarno la vostra sementa, la quale sarà divorata dal nemico.	16 then I, in turn, will give you your deserts. I will punish you with terrible woes--with wasting and fever to dim the eyes and sap the life. You will sow your seed in vain, for your enemies will consume the crop.
17 Vi guarderò con faccia irata, e voi cadrete a’ piè dei vostri nemici, e sarete soggetti a coloro che vi odiano: vi darete alla fuga senza che alcuno vi perseguiti.	17 I will turn against you, till you are beaten down before your enemies and lorded over by your foes. You will take to flight though no one pursues you.
18 Che se nemmeno allora sarete a me obbedienti, vi gastigherò sette volte di più pei vostri peccati.	18 "If even after this you do not obey me, I will increase the chastisement for your sins sevenfold,
19 E spezzerò la superba durezza vostra, e farò che il cielo lassù sia di ferro per voi, e la terra di bronzo.	19 to break your haughty confidence. I will make the sky above you as hard as iron, and your soil as hard as bronze,
20 Le fatiche vostre saranno gettate in vano; la terra non germinerà, né le piante daranno frutti.	20 so that your strength will be spent in vain; your land will bear no crops, and its trees no fruit.
21 Che se voi vi metterete in arringo contro di me, e non vorrete obbedirmi, accrescerò sette volte le vostre piaghe a causa de’ vostri peccati:	21 "If then you become defiant in your unwillingness to obey me, I will multiply my blows another sevenfold, as your sins deserve.
22 E spedirò contro di voi fiere selvagge, le quali divorino voi, e i vostri bestiami, e vi riducano a piccol numero, e le vostre strade diventeranno deserte.	22 I will unleash the wild beasts against you, to rob you of your children and wipe out your livestock, till your population dwindles away and your roads become deserted.
23 E se neppure allora vorrete emendarvi, ma vi metterete in arringo contro di me,	23 "If, with all this, you still refuse to be chastened by me and continue to defy me,
24 Io pure mi metterò in arringo contro di voi, e vi percuoterò sette volte pe’ vostri peccati:	24 I, too, will defy you and will smite you for your sins seven times harder than before.
25 E farò piombare sopra di voi la spada, che farà vendetta di mia alleanza. E se vi rifugerete nelle città, manderò tra voi la peste, e sarete dati in potere dei nemici,	25 I will make the sword, the avenger of my covenant, sweep over you. Though you then huddle together in your walled cities, I will send in pestilence among you, till you are forced to surrender to the enemy.
26 Quando io v’avrò tolto il sostentamento del vostro pane, talmente che dieci donne cuocano ad un solo forno, e il pane rendano peso; e mangerete, ma non vi sazierete.	26 And as I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will need but one oven for baking all the bread they dole out to you in rations--not enough food to still your hunger.
27 Che se neppur con questo m’ascolterete, ma farete a me guerra,	27 "If, despite all this, you still persist in disobeying and defying me,
28 Io pure farò guerra a voi con furor da nemico, e gastigherovvi con sette piaghe pe’ vostri peccati,	28 I, also, will meet you with fiery defiance and will chastise you with sevenfold fiercer punishment for your sins,
29 Talmente che mangerete le carni de’ vostri figliuoli, e delle vostre figliuole.	29 till you begin to eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.
30 Io sterminerò gli eccelsi luoghi vostri e spezzerò i simulacri. Cadrete tralle ruine degl’idoli vostri e l’anima mia vi prenderà in abborrimento,	30 I will demolish your high places, overthrow your incense stands, and cast your corpses on those of your idols. In my abhorrence of you,
31 Talmente che ridurrò in solitudine le vostre città, e desolerò i vostri Santuari, né più accetterò l’odor soavissimo.	31 I will lay waste your cities and devastate your sanctuaries, refusing to accept your sweet-smelling offerings.
32 Diserterò il vostro paese, ne rimarranno attoniti i vostri nemici, allorché vi entreranno ad abitarlo;	32 So devastated will I leave the land that your very enemies who come to live there will stand aghast at the sight of it.
33 E voi dispergerò tralle genti, e sguainata la spada v’incalzerò alle spalle, e la terra vostra sarà deserta, e ridotte in polvere le vostre città.	33 You yourselves I will scatter among the nations at the point of my drawn sword, leaving your countryside desolate and your cities deserted.
34 Allora la terra si goderà i suoi sabati per tutto il tempo che ella sarà in solitudine: quando voi sarete nel paese de' nemici.	34 Then shall the land retrieve its lost sabbaths during all the time it lies waste, while you are in the land of your enemies; then shall the land have rest and make up for its sabbaths
35 Ella celebrerà i suoi sabati e riposerà ne' giorni di sua solitudine, perché non riposò ne' vostri sabati, quando voi l’abitavate.	35 during all the time that it lies desolate, enjoying the rest that you would not let it have on the sabbaths when you lived there.
36 E a quelli, che rimarranno di voi, empierò il cuor di paura nelle regioni de’ nemici; gli atterrirà il movimento d'una foglia volante, e la fuggiranno come una spada: cadranno, senza che alcun gli inseguisca.	36 "Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies I will make so fainthearted that, if leaves rustle behind them, they will flee headlong, as if from the sword, though no one pursues them;
37 E precipiteranno l’uno sopra l'altro fratello, quasi fuggissero dalla battaglia: nissun di voi avrà cuor di resistere all'inimico:	37 stumbling over one another as if to escape a weapon, while no one is after them--so helpless will you be to take a stand against your foes!
38 Perirete tralle nazioni, e la terra nemica v'ingoierà.	38 You will be lost among the Gentiles, swallowed up in your enemies' country.
39 Che se alcuni rimarran di costoro, si struggeranno pelle loro iniquità nel paese nemico, e saran flagellati pe' peccati de’ padri loro, e pe' proprii:	39 Those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies will waste away for their own and their fathers' guilt.
40 Sino a tanto che confessin le loro iniquità, e quelle dei loro maggiori, colle quali hanno offeso me, e m'han fatto guerra.	40 "Thus they will have to confess that they and their fathers were guilty of having rebelled against me and of having defied me,
41 Farò adunque ancor io guerra a loro, e li caccerò in paese nemico, fino a tanto che nell'incirconciso lor cuore abbian vergogna: allora domanderan perdono delle loro empietà.	41 so that I, too, had to defy them and bring them into their enemies' land. Then, when their uncircumcised hearts are humbled and they make amends for their guilt,
42 E io mi ricorderò della alleanza formata da me con Giacobbe, e Isacco, e Abramo. Ricorderommi ancor della terra:	42 I will remember my covenant with Jacob, my covenant with Isaac, and my covenant with Abraham; and of the land, too, I will be mindful.
43 La quale evacuata da loro, goderà i suoi sabati, divenuta per causa loro un deserto. Ei chiederan perdono dei loro peccati per non aver fatto conto de' miei giudizii, e per avere sprezzate le mie leggi.	43 But the land must first be rid of them, that in its desolation it may make up its lost sabbaths, and that they, too, may make good the debt of their guilt for having spurned my precepts and abhorred my statutes.
44 E io per altro quando ei si stavano in paese nemico, non li rigettai totalmente, né li disprezzai a segno, che si riducessero al niente, e vano rendessi io il patto, che ho con loro. Perocché io sono il Signore Dio loro;	44 Yet even so, even while they are in their enemies' land, I will not reject or spurn them, lest, by wiping them out, I make void my covenant with them; for I, the LORD, am their God.
45 E ricorderommi dell'antica mia alleanza, quando a vista delle nazioni, li trassi dalla terra d’Egitto per essere il loro Dio. Io il Signore. Queste sono le minacce, e i precetti, e le leggi stabilite per mezzo di Mosè sul monte Sinai dal Signore, tra sé, e i figliuoli d'Israele.	45 I will remember them because of the covenant I made with their forefathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt under the very eyes of the Gentiles, that I, the LORD, might be their God."
	46 These are the precepts, decrees and laws which the LORD had Moses promulgate on Mount Sinai in the pact between himself and the Israelites.
