BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 A chi teme il Signore, nulla avverrà di male, ma nella tentazione Iddio lo conserverà, e lo libererà dai mali.	1 No evil wil befal one who fears the Lord, such a one will be rescued even in the ordeal.
2 L'uomo sapiente non odia i comandamenti, e la legge, e non darà negli scogli, come una nave in tempesta.	2 No one who hates the Law is wise, one who is hypocritical about it is like a storm-tossed ship.
3 L'uomo sensato è fedele alla legge di Dio, e la legge è fedele a lui.	3 An intelligent person will put faith in the Law, for such a one the Law is as dependable as a prophecy.
4 Chi illustra un quesito, si preparerà a discorrerne, e cosi dopo fatta orazione sarà esaudito, e conserverà la buona dottrina, a allora risponderà.	4 Prepare what you have to say and you will get a hearing, marshal your information before you answer.
5 Il cuore dello stolto è come la ruota di un carro, e i suoi pensieri son come un asse, che gira.	5 The feelings of a fool are like a cart-wheel, a fool's thought revolves like a turning axle.
6 L'amico finto è come un cavallo stallone, il quale nitrisce a chiunque il cavalca.	6 A rutting stal ion is like a sarcastic friend; he neighs, whoever rides him.
7 Donde avvien egli, che un giorno è da più di un altro, e la luce di un dì è da più di un'altra, e un anno da più dell'altro, sendo tutti dal sole?	7 Why is one day better than another, though the sun gives the same daylight throughout the year?
8 La sapienza del Signore li distinse dopo creato il sole, che ubbidisce agli ordini ricevuti.	8 They have been differentiated in the mind of the Lord, who has diversified the seasons and feasts;
9 Egli ordinò le stagioni, e in esse i loro giorni festivi, onde in quelle si celebrano le solennità all'ora stabilita.	9 some he has made more important and has hal owed, others he has made ordinary days.
10 Di essi giorni Dio alcuni li fece grandi, ed altri lasciò nella turba de' giorni; e tutti gli uomini li fece di polvere, e di terra, donde fu creato Adamo.	10 Human beings come from the ground, Adam himself was formed out of earth;
11 Colla sua molta sapienza il Signore li distinse, e variò le lor condizioni.	11 in the fullness of his wisdom the Lord has made distinctions between them, and diversified theirconditions.
12 Di essi altri ne benedisse, e gli esaltò, e ne santificò, e ne prese per se, e altri maledisse, e umiliò, e li discacciò dal paese dove stavano separati.	12 Some of them he has blessed, hal owing and setting them near him; others he has cursed andhumiliated by degrading them from their positions.
13 Come la creta del vasaio è nelle mani di lui per impastarla, e metterla in opera.	13 Like clay in the hands of the potter to mould as it pleases him, so are human beings in the hands oftheir Maker to reward as he judges right.
14 E l'uso di essa è in suo arbitrio; così l'uomo è nelle mani di colui, che lo fece, il quale renderà a lui secondo i suoi giudizj.	14 Opposite evil stands good, opposite death, life; so too opposite the devout stands the sinner.
15 Il bene è contrario al male, e la Tita è contraria alla morte; così l'uomo giusto sta di contro al peccatore; e cosi tutte le opere dell'Altissimo le vedrai a due a due, e l'una opposta all'altra.	15 Contemplate al the works of the Most High, you wil find they go in pairs, by opposites.
16 Or io mi sono alzato l'ultimo, e come uno, che raspolla dopo i vendemmiatori.	16 Although the last to come, I have kept my eyes open like a man picking up what the grape-pickershave left.
17 Io pure nella benedizione di Dio ho sperato, e come un che vendemmia ho empiuto il tino.	17 By the blessing of the Lord I have come in first, and like a true grape-picker have fil ed my winepress.
18 Mirate com'io non per me solo ho faticato, ma per tutti quelli, che cercano d'istruirsi.	18 And note, I have not been working merely for myself, but for al who seek instruction.
19 Ascoltate me, o magnati, e popoli tutti quanti, e voi, che presiedete all'adunanze, porgete attente le orecchie.	19 Listen to me, important public figures, presidents of the assembly, give ear!
20 Al figliuolo, e alla moglie, al fratello, e all'amico non dar potestà sopra di te, fino, che tu se' vivo, e non cedere ad altri quelle cose, che tu possiedi, affinchè non avvenga, che ripentito tu debba inchinarti a ridomandarle.	20 Neither to son nor wife, brother nor friend, give power over yourself during your own lifetime. And donot give your property to anyone else, in case you regret it and have to ask for it back.
21 Sino a tanto che tu se' al mondo, e respiri, nissun uomo ti faccia mutar di parere;	21 As long as you live and there is breath in your body, do not yield power over yourself to anyone;
22 Perocché è meglio, che i tuoi figliuoli debban ricorrer a te, che se tu avessi ad aspettare l'aiuto de' figliuoli.	22 better for your children to come begging to you, than for you to have to go begging to them.
23 In tutte le cose tue mantieni la tua superiorità:	23 In al you do be the master, and leave a reputation unstained.
24 Affine di non macchiare la tua riputazione. E quando son per finire i giorni della tua vita, e nel tempo di tua morte distribuisci la tua eredità.	24 The day your life draws to a close, at the hour of death, then distribute your heritage.
25 Fieno, bastone, e soma all'asino; pane, sferza, e lavoro allo schiavo.	25 Fodder, the stick and burdens for a donkey, bread, discipline and work for a slave.
26 Questi lavora quand'è castigato, e ama il riposo: allarga con lui la mano, ed egli cercherà di mettersi in libertà.	26 Work your slave hard, and you wil have peace of mind, leave his hands idle, and he wil be asking forhis freedom.
27 Il giogo, e la fune piegano il collo duro, e l'assidua fatica ammansisce il servo.	27 Yoke and harness wil bow the neck, for a bad servant, torments and the rack.
28 Al servo di mala volontà battiture, e ceppi. Mandalo al lavoro, affinché non istia in ozio;	28 Set him to work, so that he will not be idle; idleness teaches every kind of mischief.
29 Perocché l'oziosità di molli vizi è maestra.	29 Keep him at his duties, where he should be, if he is disobedient, clap him in irons.
30 Costringilo a lavorare, perché ciò a lui si conviene, e se egli non sarà ubbidiente, fallo docile col metterlo a' ceppi, ma guardati dagli eccessi contro la carne di chicchessia, e non far cosa grave senza ponderazione.	30 But do not be over-exacting with anyone, and do nothing contrary to justice.
31 Se tu hai un servo fedele, tienne conto come dell'anima tua: trattalo come fratello: perocché lo hai comperato col tuo sangue.	31 You have only one slave? Treat him like yourself, since you have acquired him with blood.
32 Se tu ingiustamente il maltratti, egli si darà alla fuga.	32 You have only one slave? Treat him as a brother, since you need him as you need yourself.
33 Che se egli si toglie da te, e se ne va, tu non sai a chi domandarne, nè per qual via ricercarlo.	33 If you ill-treat him and he runs away, which way wil you go to look for him?
