BIBLIANEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Sofar de Naamat tomó la palabra y dijo:1 Then Zophar the Naamathite spoke and said:
Por esto mis pensamientos a replicar me incitan: por la impaciencia que me urge.2 and because of this I am disturbed. So now my thoughts provide me with an answer, and from my understanding a spirit gives me a reply.
A rebuke which puts me to shame I hear,
Do you not know this from olden time, since man was placed upon the earth,
That the triumph of the wicked is short and the joy of the impious but for a moment?
Aunque su talla se alzara hasta los cielos y las nubes tocara su cabeza,6 Though his pride mount up to the heavens and his head reach to the clouds,
como un fantasma desaparece para siempre, los que le veían dicen: «¿Dónde está?»7 Yet he perishes forever like the fuel of his fire, and the onlookers say, "Where is he?"
Like a dream he takes flight and is not found again; he fades away like a vision of the night.
The eye which saw him does so no more; nor shall his dwelling again behold him.
A los pobres tendrán que indemnizar sus hijos, sus niños habrán de devolver sus bienes.10 and his hands shall yield up his riches.
Sus huesos rebosaban de vigor juvenil: mas ya con él postrado está en el polvo.11 Though his frame is full of youthful vigor, this shall lie with him in the dust.
Si el mal era dulce a su boca, si bajo su lengua lo albergaba,12 Though wickedness is sweet in his mouth, and he hides it under his tongue,
si allí lo guardaba tenazmente y en medio del paladar lo retenía,13 Though he retains it and will not let it go but keeps it still within his mouth,
The riches he swallowed he shall disgorge; God shall compel his belly to disown them.
Veneno de áspides chupaba: lengua de víbora le mata.16 The poison of asps he shall drink in; the viper's fangs shall slay him.
He shall see no streams of oil, no torrents of honey or milk.
Devuelve su ganancia sin tragarla, no saborea el fruto de su negocio.18 Restoring his gains, he shall not enjoy them; though his wealth increases, he shall not rejoice.
Because he has oppressed the poor, and stolen a patrimony he had not built up,
porque su vientre se mostró insaciable, sus tesoros no le salvarán;20 Though he has known no quiet in his greed, his treasures shall not save him.
Therefore his prosperity shall not endure,
En plena abundancia la estrechez le sorprende, la desgracia, en tromba, cae sobre él.22 When he abounds to overflowing, he shall be brought into straits, and nought shall be left of his goods.
En el momento de llenar su vientre, suelta Dios contra él el ardor de su cólera y lanza sobre su carne una lluvia de saetas.23 God shall send against him the fury of his wrath and rain down his missiles of war upon him.
Si del arma de hierro logra huir, el arco de bronce le traspasa.24 Should he escape the iron weapon, the bow of bronze shall pierce him through;
Los terrores se abalanzan sobre él,25 The dart shall come out of his back; terrors shall fall upon him.
total tiniebla aguarda a sus tesoros. Un fuego que nadie atiza le devora, y consume lo que en su tienda aún queda,26 Complete darkness is in store for him; the fire which shall consume him needs not to be fanned.
Los cielos ponen su culpa al descubierto, y la tierra se alza contra él.27 The heavens shall reveal his guilt, and the earth shall rise up against him.
La hacienda de su casa se derrama, como torrentes, en el día de la cólera.28 The flood shall sweep away his house with the waters that run off in the day of God's anger.
Tal es la suerte que al malvado Dios reserva, la herencia de Dios para el maldito.29 This is the portion of a wicked man, and the heritage appointed him by God.
