1 Le premier jour de la semaine, aux premières lueurs de l’aube, elles vont à la tombe emportant les aromates qu’elles ont préparés.	1 And on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared.
2 C’est alors qu’elles font une découverte: la pierre a été roulée de devant la tombe.	2 And they found the stone rolled back from the sepulchre.
3 Elles y pénètrent et ne trouvent pas le corps du Seigneur Jésus.	3 And going in, they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 Et comme elles sont là, ne sachant que penser, deux hommes se présentent à elles en habits éblouissants.	4 And it came to pass, as they were astonished in their mind at this, behold, two men stood by them, in shining apparel.
5 Saisies de crainte, elles baissent leur visage vers la terre; mais ils leur disent: "Pourquoi chercher le Vivant parmi les morts?	5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their countenance towards the ground, they said unto them: Why seek you the living with the dead?
6 Il n’est pas ici, il est ressuscité. Souvenez-vous de ce qu’il vous a dit quand il était encore en Galilée:	6 He is not here, but is risen. Remember how he spoke unto you, when he was in Galilee,
7 Il faut que le Fils de l’Homme soit livré aux mains d’hommes pécheurs, qu’il soit mis en croix et qu’il ressuscite le troisième jour.”	7 Saying: The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 À ce moment elles se souvinrent de ses paroles.	8 And they remembered his words.
9 De retour de la tombe, elles racontèrent tout cela aux Onze et à tous les autres;	9 And going back from the sepulchre, they told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 c’étaient Marie de Magdala, Jeanne, et Marie mère de Jacques. Les autres femmes qui étaient avec elles disaient la même chose aux apôtres,	10 And it was Mary Magdalen, and Joanna, and Mary of James, and the other women that were with them, who told these things to the apostles.
11 mais ils ne les crurent pas: toute cette histoire leur paraissait pure fantaisie.	11 And these words seemed to them as idle tales; and they did not believe them.
12 Pierre cependant se lève, il court à la tombe, se penche et voit les linges, rien d’autre. Il rentre chez lui en se demandant ce qui a pu arriver.	12 But Peter rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down, he saw the linen cloths laid by themselves; and went away wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
13 Ce même jour, deux d’entre eux se rendaient à un village du nom d’Emmaüs, éloigné de 60 stades de Jérusalem,	13 And behold, two of them went, the same day, to a town which was sixty furlongs from Jerusalem, named Emmaus.
14 et ils parlaient entre eux de tous ces événements.	14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 Tandis qu’ils parlaient et discutaient entre eux, voici que Jésus lui-même s’approcha et fit route avec eux.	15 And it came to pass, that while they talked and reasoned with themselves, Jesus himself also drawing near, went with them.
16 Mais leurs yeux étaient empêchés de le reconnaître.	16 But their eyes were held, that they should not know him.
17 Et voilà qu’il leur dit: "Mais quelle est donc cette affaire dont vous discutez tout en marchant?” Ils s’arrêtent, l’air découragé,	17 And he said to them: What are these discourses that you hold one with another as you walk, and are sad?
18 et l’un d’eux nommé Cléopas lui répond: "Tu es bien le seul homme de passage à Jérusalem à ignorer ce qui s’est passé ici ces derniers jours.”	18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleophas, answering, said to him: Art thou only a stranger to Jerusalem, and hast not known the things that have been done there in these days?
19 Il leur dit: "Quoi donc?” Ils répondent: "Toute l’affaire de Jésus de Nazareth! “C’était un prophète puissant en œuvres et en paroles: Dieu en est témoin, et tout le peuple également;	19 To whom he said: What things? And they said: Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet, mighty in work and word before God and all the people;
20 mais nos grands prêtres et nos chefs l’ont renié, ils l’ont condamné à mort et l’ont mis en croix.	20 And how our chief priests and princes delivered him to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
21 Et nous, nous pensions que c’était lui qui délivrerait Israël. Mais tout est fait et c’est déjà le troisième jour.	21 But we hoped, that it was he that should have redeemed Israel: and now besides all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.
22 “C’est vrai que quelques femmes de notre groupe nous ont déroutés. Quand elles sont allées au tombeau à l’aube,	22 Yea and certain women also of our company affrighted us, who before it was light, were at the sepulchre,
23 elles n’ont pas trouvé son corps; elles sont venues nous dire qu’elles ont eu une vision avec des anges qui disent qu’il est vivant.	23 And not finding his body, came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who say that he is alive.
24 Certains des nôtres sont allés au tombeau et ont trouvé les choses comme les femmes avaient dit, mais lui, ils ne l’ont pas vu.”	24 And some of our people went to the sepulchre, and found it so as the women had said, but him they found not.
25 Alors il leur dit: "Hommes sans intelligence, cœurs lents à croire ce qu’ont dit les prophètes!	25 Then he said to them: O foolish, and slow of heart to believe in all things which the prophets have spoken.
26 Le Messie ne devait-il pas souffrir pour entrer dans sa gloire?”	26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and so to enter into his glory?
27 Et il leur fit l’interprétation de ce qui le concernait dans toutes les Écritures, en commençant par Moïse et ensuite tous les prophètes.	27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures, the things that were concerning him.
28 Lorsqu’ils approchèrent du village où ils se rendaient, il fit semblant d’aller plus loin.	28 And they drew night to the town, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go farther.
29 Mais ils firent pression sur lui: "Reste avec nous, le soir tombe et déjà le jour baisse.” Il entra donc pour s’arrêter avec eux.	29 But they constrained him; saying: Stay with us, because it is towards evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in with them.
30 Comme il était à table avec eux, il prit le pain, il le bénit et, après l’avoir rompu, il le leur donna.	30 And it came to pass, whilst he was at table with them, he took bread, and blessed, and brake, and gave to them.
31 Alors leurs yeux s’ouvrirent et ils le reconnurent; mais lui déjà était devenu invisible à leurs yeux.	31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him: and he vanished out of their sight.
32 Ils se disaient l’un à l’autre: "Notre cœur n’était-il pas tout brûlant en nous quand il nous parlait sur le chemin et nous expliquait les Écritures?”	32 And they said one to the other: Was not our heart burning within us, whilst he spoke in this way, and opened to us the scriptures?
33 À l’heure même ils se levèrent et retournèrent à Jérusalem où ils trouvèrent rassemblés les Onze et ceux de leur groupe.	33 And rising up, the same hour, they went back to Jerusalem: and they found the eleven gathered together, and those that were staying with them,
34 Ceux-ci leur dirent: "En vérité le Seigneur est ressuscité, il est apparu à Simon.”	34 Saying: The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 Et eux de leur côté commencèrent à raconter ce qui s’était passé sur le chemin, et comment ils l’avaient reconnu à la fraction du pain.	35 And they told what things were done in the way; and how they knew him in the breaking of the bread.
36 Ils parlaient encore lorsque Jésus lui-même se trouva au milieu d’eux (et leur dit: "Paix à vous!”)	36 Now whilst they were speaking these things, Jesus stood in the midst of them, and saith to them: Peace be to you; it is I, fear not.
37 Il y eut un moment d’épouvante: saisis de peur, ils croyaient voir un esprit.	37 But they being troubled and frightened, supposed that they saw a spirit.
38 Alors il leur dit: "Pourquoi ce trouble, pourquoi de telles idées vous viennent-elles à l’esprit?	38 And he said to them: Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
39 Voyez mes mains et mes pieds: oui, c’est moi. Touchez-moi et regardez: un esprit n’a ni chair ni os comme vous voyez que j’en ai.”	39 See my hands and feet, that it is I myself; handle, and see: for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as you see me to have.
40 En disant cela il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds.	40 And when he had said this, he shewed them his hands and feet.
41 Et comme, dans leur joie et leur étonnement, ils hésitaient encore à croire, il leur dit: "Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger?”	41 But while they yet believed not, and wondered for joy, he said: Have you any thing to eat?
42 Alors ils lui donnent une part de poisson grillé (et une portion de miel),	42 And they offered him a piece of a broiled fish, and a honeycomb.
43 il le prend et le mange devant eux.	43 And when he had eaten before them, taking the remains, he gave to them.
44 Jésus leur dit: "Rappelez-vous mes paroles lorsque j’étais encore avec vous pour vous parler: il faut que s’accomplisse tout ce qui a été écrit à mon sujet dans la loi de Moïse, les Prophètes et les Psaumes.”	44 And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Alors il leur ouvrit l’intelligence pour qu’ils comprennent les Écritures.	45 Then he opened their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.
46 Il leur dit: "Vous voyez, c’était dans l’Écriture: le Messie devait souffrir et ressusciter d’entre les morts le troisième jour.	46 And he said to them: Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead, the third day:
47 Et il faut ensuite que la conversion et le pardon des péchés soient proclamés en son nom à toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem.	47 And that penance and remission of sins should be preached in his name, unto all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 De cela vous êtes témoins.	48 And you are witnesses of these things.
49 “De mon côté je vais envoyer sur vous ce que mon Père a promis; restez en ville jusqu’à ce que vous soyez revêtus de la puissance d’en haut.”	49 And I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay you in the city till you be endued with power from on high.
50 Jésus les conduisit jusque vers Béthanie. Là il éleva les mains et les bénit;	50 And he led them out as far as Bethania: and lifting up his hands, he blessed them.
51 et tandis qu’il les bénissait il s’éloigna d’eux, (emporté dans le ciel. 52 Ils se prosternèrent devant lui.) Puis ils revinrent à Jérusalem en grande joie,	51 And it came to pass, whilst he blessed them, he departed from them, and was carried up to heaven.
	52 And they adoring went back into Jerusalem with great joy.
53 et sans cesse ils étaient dans le Temple à louer Dieu.	53 And they were always in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
