1 Tada zagraja sva zajednica i poče vikati. I te noći narod plakaše.	1 The whole community then cried out in dismay, and the people wept al that night.
2 Svi su Izraelci mrmljali protiv Mojsija i Arona. Sva im je zajednica govorila: »Kamo sreće da smo pomrli u zemlji egipatskoj! Ili da smo pomrli u ovoj pustinji!	2 Al the Israelites muttered at Moses and Aaron, and the whole community said to them, 'Would toGod we had died in Egypt, or even that we had died in this desert!
3 Zašto nas Jahve vodi u tu zemlju da padnemo od mača a žene naše i djeca da postanu roblje? Zar nam ne bi bilo bolje da se vratimo u Egipat?«	3 Why has Yahweh brought us to this country, for us to perish by the sword and our wives and childrento be seized as booty? Should we not do better to go back to Egypt?'
4 Jedan je drugome govorio: »Postavimo sebi vođu i vratimo se u Egipat!«	4 And they said to one another, 'Let us appoint a leader and go back to Egypt.'
5 Mojsije i Aron padoše ničice pred svom okupljenom izraelskom zajednicom.	5 At this, Moses and Aaron threw themselves on their faces in front of the whole assembled communityof Israelites,
6 A Jošua, sin Nunov, i Kaleb, sin Jefuneov, koji bijahu među onima što su izviđali zemlju, razderaše svoju odjeću.	6 while Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of the men who had reconnoitred thecountry, tore their clothes
7 Zatim rekoše svoj zajednici izraelskoj: »Zemlja kroz koju smo prošli da je istražimo izvanredno je dobra.	7 and addressed the whole community of Israelites as fol ows, 'The country we went to reconnoitre is agood country, an excel ent country.
8 Ako nam Jahve bude dobrostiv, u tu će nas zemlju dovesti i dat će nam je. To je zemlja u kojoj teče med i mlijeko.	8 If Yahweh is pleased with us, he will lead us into this country and give it to us. It is a country flowingwith milk and honey.
9 Samo, nemojte se buniti protiv Jahve! Ne bojte se naroda one zemlje: ta on je zalogaj za nas. Oni su bez zaštite, a s nama je Jahve! Ne bojte ih se!«	9 But do not rebel against Yahweh or be afraid of the people of the country, for we shal gobble themup. Their protecting shade has deserted them, while we have Yahweh on our side. Do not be afraid of them.'
10 I dok je sva zajednica već mislila da ih kamenuje, pokaza se slava Jahvina u Šatoru sastanka svim sinovima Izraelovim.	10 The whole community was talking of stoning them, when the glory of Yahweh appeared to al theIsraelites, inside the Tent of Meeting,
11 Tada reče Mojsiju: »Dokle će me taj narod prezirati? Dokle mi neće vjerovati unatoč svim znamenjima što sam ih među njima izvodio?	11 and Yahweh said to Moses: 'How much longer wil these people treat me with contempt? How muchlonger will they refuse to trust me, in spite of al the signs I have displayed among them?
12 Udarit ću ih pomorom i istrijebiti, a od tebe ću učiniti narod veći i moćniji od njega.«	12 I shall strike them with pestilence and disown them. And of you I shall make a new nation, greaterand mightier than they are.'
13 Onda Mojsije reče Jahvi: »Egipćani su shvatili da si ti, svojom moći, izveo ovaj narod između njih.	13 Moses said to Yahweh: 'Suppose the Egyptians hear about this -- for by your power you broughtthese people out of their country-
14 Oni su to kazali žiteljima one zemlje. Već su saznali da si ti, Jahve, usred ovog naroda, kojemu se očituješ licem u lice, i da ti, Jahve, u oblaku stojiš nad njima; da obdan u stupu od oblaka, a obnoć u stupu od ognja ideš pred njima.	14 and tel the people living in this country. They have heard that you, Yahweh, are with this people,and that you, Yahweh, show yourself to them face to face; that your cloud stands over them and that you gobefore them in a pil ar of cloud by day and a pil ar of fire by night.
15 Zato, ako pobiješ ovaj narod kao jednoga čovjeka, narodi koji su čuli glas o tebi reći će:	15 If you kil this people now as though it were one man, then the nations who have heard about youwil say,
16 ‘Jahve je bio nemoćan da dovede ovaj narod u zemlju koju mu je pod zakletvom obećao, i zato ih je poubijao u pustinji.’	16 "Yahweh was not able to bring this people into the country which he had sworn to give them, and sohe has slaughtered them in the desert."
17 Zato neka se snaga moga Gospodina uzvisi, kako si najavio rekavši:	17 No, my Lord! Now is the time to assert your power as you promised when you said, earlier,
18 ‘Jahve je spor na srdžbu, a bogat milosrđem; podnosi opačinu i prijestup, ali krivca ne ostavlja nekažnjena, nego opačinu otaca kažnjava na djeci do trećega i četvrtog koljena.’	18 "Yahweh, slow to anger and rich in faithful love, forgiving faults and transgression, and yet lettingnothing go unchecked, punishing the parents' guilt in the children to the third and fourth generation."
19 Oprosti krivnju ovome narodu po veličini svoga milosrđa, kao što si vodio ovaj narod od Egipta dovde.«	19 In your most faithful love, please forgive this people's guilt, as you have done from Egypt until now.'
20 »Opraštam po riječi tvojoj«, reče Jahve.	20 Yahweh said, 'I forgive them as you ask.
21 »Ali ipak, tako ja živ bio i slave se Jahvine napunila sva zemlja,	21 But -- as I live, and as the glory of Yahweh fills the whole world-
22 ni jedan od ljudi koji su vidjeli slavu moju i znamenja što sam ih izveo u Egiptu i u pustinji, pa me ipak iskušavali već deset puta ne hoteći poslušati moj glas,	22 of all these people who have seen my glory and the signs that I worked in Egypt and in the desert,who have put me to the test ten times already and not obeyed my voice,
23 neće vidjeti zemlje što sam je pod zakletvom obećao njihovim ocima; nitko od onih koji me preziru neće je vidjeti.	23 not one shal see the country which I promised to give their ancestors. Not one of those who havetreated me contemptuously will see it.
24 A slugu svoga Kaleba, jer je u njemu drukčiji duh i jer mi bijaše poslušan, njega ću ja dovesti u zemlju u koju je išao i njegovi će je potomci zaposjesti! Neka Amalečani i Kanaanci samo ostanu u dolini.	24 However, since my servant Caleb is of another spirit and since he has obeyed me completely, I shallbring him into the country where he has been, and his descendants will own it
25 Sutra se vratite i krenite u pustinju put Crvenog mora.«	25 (the Amalekites and Canaanites occupy the plain). Tomorrow you wil turn about and go back intothe desert, in the direction of the Sea of Suph.'
26 Još reče Jahve Mojsiju i Aronu:	26 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and Aaron and said:
27 »Dokle će ta opaka zajednica mrmljati protiv mene? Čuo sam tužbe što ih Izraelci na me dižu.	27 'How much longer am I to endure this perverse community muttering against me? I have heard whatthe Israelites mutter against me.
28 Kaži im: ‘Tako ja živ bio’, objavljuje Jahve, ‘kako ste na moje uši govorili, tako ću vam i učiniti.	28 Say to them, "As I live, Yahweh declares, I shal do to you what I have heard you saying.
29 U ovoj pustinji popadat će vaša mrtva tijela: svih vas koji ste ubilježeni u bilo koji vaš popis od dvadeset godina pa naprijed, koji ste rogoborili protiv mene.	29 In this desert your dead bodies wil fal , al you who were counted in the census, from the age oftwenty years and over who have muttered against me.
30 Nećete ući u zemlju na koju sam svoju ruku digao da vas u njoj nastanim, osim Kaleba, sina Jefuneova, i Jošue, sina Nunova.	30 I swear none of you will enter the country where I swore most solemnly to settle you, except Calebson of Jephunneh, and Joshua son of Nun.
31 A vašu djecu, o kojoj kažete da bi postala roblje, njih ću uvesti da nastane zemlju što ste je vi prezreli.	31 Your children, who you said would be seized as booty, wil be the ones whom I shal bring in so thatthey get to know the country you disdained,
32 A vi? Neka vam tjelesa popadaju u ovoj pustinji!	32 but, as for you, your dead bodies wil fall in this desert
33 Vaši sinovi neka lutaju pustinjom četrdeset godina, neka trpe zbog vaše nevjere dok vam ne ispropadaju tjelesa u ovoj pustinji.	33 and your children wil be nomads in the desert for forty years, bearing the consequences of yourfaithlessness, until the last one of you lies dead in the desert.
34 Prema broju dana u koje ste istraživali zemlju – dana četrdeset, za svaki dan jednu godinu – ispaštajte svoje opačine četrdeset godina. Iskusite što znači mene napustiti.	34 For forty days you reconnoitred the country. Each day wil count as a year: for forty years you willbear the consequences of your guilt and learn what it means to reject me."
35 Ja, Jahve, to kažem: tako ću postupiti s ovom opakom zajednicom što se sjatila protiv mene. U ovoj istoj pustinji neka završi! Tu neka izgine.’«	35 I, Yahweh, have spoken: this is how I swear to treat this entire perverse community united againstme. In this desert, to the last man, they shall die.'
36 A oni ljudi koje Mojsije bijaše poslao da istraže zemlju i koji su nakon povratka potakli svu zajednicu da rogobori protiv njega ozloglašujući zemlju;	36 The men whom Moses had sent to reconnoitre the country and who on their return had incited thewhole community of Israel to mutter about him by disparaging it,
37 oni, dakle, ljudi koji su zlobno ozloglasili zemlju bijahu pomoreni pred Jahvom.	37 these men who had disparaged the country were al struck dead before Yahweh.
38 Od onih ljudi koji su išli da istraže zemlju ostadoše na životu jedino Jošua, sin Nunov, i Kaleb, sin Jefuneov.	38 Of the men who had gone to reconnoitre the country, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son ofJephunneh were left alive.
39 Kad je Mojsije prenio te riječi svim Izraelcima, narod se uvelike ražalosti.	39 When Moses told all the Israelites what had been said, the people set up a great outcry.
40 I uranivši ujutro počnu se uspinjati na vrh brda govoreći. »Evo uzlazimo na mjesto o kojem je govorio Jahve jer smo zgriješili.«	40 Early next morning they set out for the heights of the hil country saying, 'Look, we wil set out for theplace about which Yahweh said that we have sinned.'
41 A Mojsije rekne: »Zašto kršite zapovijed Jahvinu? Nećete uspjeti.	41 To which, Moses said, 'Why disobey Yahweh's order? No success wil come of doing so.
42 Ne penjite se, da vas ne potuku vaši neprijatelji, jer Jahve nije među vama.	42 Do not go, for Yahweh is not among you, and you wil be defeated by your enemies.
43 Ta ondje se pred vama nalaze Amalečani i Kanaanci te ćete od mača pasti jer ste se odvratili od Jahve i jer Jahve neće biti s vama.«	43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are ahead of you, and you wil be put to the sword, since youhave turned away from Yahweh, and Yahweh is not with you.'
44 Ali se oni prkosno penjahu prema vrhu brda, iako se ni Kovčeg saveza Jahvina ni Mojsije nisu micali iz tabora.	44 All the same, they presumptuously set off for the heights of the hil country. Neither the ark of thecovenant of Yahweh nor Moses left the camp.
45 Amalečani i Kanaanci koji su živjeli na onome brdu spuste se, udare po njima i rasprše ih sve do Horme.	45 The Amalekites and Canaanites living in those highlands then came down, defeated them andharried them al the way to Hormah.
