Siracide 13

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 - Chi tocca la pece, ne rimane insudiciato, e chi se la fa col superbo, mette superbia.	1 He who touches pitch blackens his hand; he who associates with an impious man learns his ways.
2 Solleva un peso superiore alle sue forze chi se la fa con uno più nobile di lui: non ti accompagnare con uno più ricco!	2 Bear no burden too heavy for you; go with no one greater or wealthier than yourself. How can the earthen pot go with the metal cauldron? When they knock together, the pot will be smashed:
3 Come può la caldaia far lega con la pentola? Quando s'urteranno, questa andrà in pezzi.	3 The rich man does wrong and boasts of it, the poor man is wronged and begs forgiveness.
4 Il ricco fa un'ingiustizia e sbuffa! il povero è maltrattato, e zitto.	4 As long as the rich man can use you he will enslave you, but when you are exhausted, he will abandon you.
5 Se gli apporti [utilità], ti piglierò (con sè], e se non hai [più nulla], ti abbandonerà.	5 As long as you have anything he will speak fair words to you, and with smiles he will win your confidence;
6 Se possiedi [qualcosa], conviverà con te, e ti spoglierà e non si crucccrà con te.	6 When he needs something from you he will cajole you, then without regret he will impoverish you.
7 Se avrà bisogno di te, ti abbindolerà, e sorridente ti darà speranze; ti sarà largo di buone parole, e dirà: «Di che hai bisogno?».	7 While it serves his purpose he will beguile you, then twice or three times he will terrify you; When later he sees you he will pass you by, and shake his head over you.
8 E ti confonderà con i suoi banchetti, fino a che in due o tre volte t'abbia esaurito, e all'ultimo si farà beffe di te. E più tardi, ti vedrà e ti volterà le spalle, e scuoterà il capo [con spregio] verso di te.	8 Guard against being presumptuous; be not as those who lack sense.
9 Umiliati [allora] a Dio, e aspetta la sua mano.	9 When invited by a man of influence, keep your distance; then he will urge you all the more.
10 Guarda di non lasciarti sedurre, e di non umiliarti [sino] alla stoltezza.	10 Be not bold with him lest you be rebuffed, but keep not too far away lest you be forgotten.
11 Non esser [abblcttamente] umile nella tua saggezza, perchè umiliato, tu non sia sedotto a seguir stoltezza.	11 Engage not freely in discussion with him, trust not his many words; For by prolonged talk he will test you, and though smiling he will probe you.
12 Se uno più potente t'invita, fatti addietro; perchè così t'inviterà maggiormente.	12 Mercilessly he will make of you a laughingstock, and will not refrain from injury or chains.
13 Non far l'intruso, per non esser respinto, e non tenerti lontano, per non esser dimenticato.	13 Be on your guard and take care never to accompany men of violence.
14 Non ti mettere a parlar con lui alla pari, e non ti fidare delle molte sue parole; perchè col [suo] gran discorrere ti tenterà, e sorridendo ti caverà di bocca i tuoi segreti.	14 Every living thing loves its own kind, every man a man like himself.
15 L'animo spietato di lui conserverà le tue parole, e non ti risparmierà guai e catene.	15 Every being is drawn to its own kind; with his own kind every man associates.
16 Sta' in guardia e poni ben mente a ciò che ascolti, perchè passeggi con la tua rovina [a fianco].	16 Is a wolf ever allied with a lamb? So it is with the sinner and the just.
17 Ascoltando tali cose guarda come trasognato e sta' sveglio.	17 Can there be peace between the hyena and the dog? Or between the rich and the poor can there be peace?
18 Per tutta la tua vita ama Dio e invocalo a tua salvezza.	18 Lion's prey are the wild asses of the desert; so too the poor are feeding grounds for the rich.
19 Ogni animale ama il suo simile: così anche ogni uomo il suo vicino.	19 A proud man abhors lowliness; so does the rich man abhor the poor.
20 Ogni carne s'unisce col suo congenere, e ogni uomo s'associa col suo simile.	20 When a rich man stumbles he is supported by a friend; when a poor man trips he is pushed down by a friend.
21 Il lupo avrà mai qualcosa di comune con l'agnello? così il peccatore col giusto!	21 Many are the supporters for a rich man when he speaks; though what he says is odious, it wins approval. When a poor man speaks they make sport of him; he speaks wisely and no attention is paid him.
22 Quale relazione cl può esser tra la iena e il cane? e quale comunanza tra il ricco e il povero?	22 A rich man speaks and all are silent, his wisdom they extol to the clouds. A poor man speaks and they say: "Who is that?" If he slips they cast him down.
23 Preda del leone è l'onagro nel deserto, e così pasto de' ricchi sono i poveri.	23 Wealth is good when there is no sin; but poverty is evil by the standards of the proud.
24 E come è un'abominazione l'umiltà per il superbo, così è un'esecrazione il povero per il ricco.	24 The heart of a man changes his countenance, either for good or for evil.
25 Il ricco, se tentenna, è sorretto da' suoi amici, il povero, se cade, è buttato via anche da' suoi conoscenti.	25 The sign of a good heart is a cheerful countenance; withdrawn and perplexed is the laborious schemer.
26 Se precipita il ricco, molti sono i soccorritori: dice cose insensate, e quelli gli dan ragione.
27 Precipita il povero? e rimproverato per giunta: dice cose sensate e non gli si dà retta.
28 Parla il ricco e tutti fan silenzio, e portano alle stelle le sue parole.
29 Parla il povero, e dicono: «Chi è costui?», e se incespica, lo buttano a terra.
30 Buona è la ricchezza, che non ha il peccato sulla coscienza e trista è la povertà [solo] in bocca all'empio.
31 Il cuore dell'uomo ne cambia il volto, sia in bene, sia in male.
32 Il segno d'un cuore felice, un volto ilare, lo troverai diffìcilmente e con pena.
