BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 - Chi tocca la pece, ne rimane insudiciato, e chi se la fa col superbo, mette superbia.	1 He that toucheth pitch, shall be defiled with it: and he that hath fellowship with the proud, shall put on pride.
2 Solleva un peso superiore alle sue forze chi se la fa con uno più nobile di lui: non ti accompagnare con uno più ricco!	2 He shall take a burden upon him that hath fellowship with one more honourable than himself. And have no fellowship with one that is richer than thyself.
3 Come può la caldaia far lega con la pentola? Quando s'urteranno, questa andrà in pezzi.	3 What agreement shall the earthen pot have with the kettle? for if they knock one against the other, it shall be broken.
4 Il ricco fa un'ingiustizia e sbuffa! il povero è maltrattato, e zitto.	4 The rich man hath done wrong, and yet he will fume: but the poor is wronged and must hold his peace.
5 Se gli apporti [utilità], ti piglierò (con sè], e se non hai [più nulla], ti abbandonerà.	5 If thou give, he will make use of thee: and if thou have nothing, he will forsake thee.
6 Se possiedi [qualcosa], conviverà con te, e ti spoglierà e non si crucccrà con te.	6 If thou have any thing, he will live with thee, and will make thee bare, and he will not be sorry for thee.
7 Se avrà bisogno di te, ti abbindolerà, e sorridente ti darà speranze; ti sarà largo di buone parole, e dirà: «Di che hai bisogno?».	7 If he have need of thee he will deceive thee, and smiling upon thee will put thee in hope; he will speak thee fair, and will say: What wantest thou?
8 E ti confonderà con i suoi banchetti, fino a che in due o tre volte t'abbia esaurito, e all'ultimo si farà beffe di te. E più tardi, ti vedrà e ti volterà le spalle, e scuoterà il capo [con spregio] verso di te.	8 And he will shame thee by his meats, till he have drawn thee dry twice or thrice, and at last he will laugh at thee: and afterward when he seeth thee, he will forsake thee, and shake his head at thee.
9 Umiliati [allora] a Dio, e aspetta la sua mano.	9 Humble thyself to God, and wait for his hands.
10 Guarda di non lasciarti sedurre, e di non umiliarti [sino] alla stoltezza.	10 Beware that thou be not deceived Into folly, and be humbled.
11 Non esser [abblcttamente] umile nella tua saggezza, perchè umiliato, tu non sia sedotto a seguir stoltezza.	11 Be not lowly in thy wisdom, lest being humbled thou be deceived into folly.
12 Se uno più potente t'invita, fatti addietro; perchè così t'inviterà maggiormente.	12 If thou be invited by one that is mightier, withdraw thyself: for so he will invite thee the more.
13 Non far l'intruso, per non esser respinto, e non tenerti lontano, per non esser dimenticato.	13 Be not troublesome to him, lest thou be put back: and keep not far from him, lest thou be forgotten.
14 Non ti mettere a parlar con lui alla pari, e non ti fidare delle molte sue parole; perchè col [suo] gran discorrere ti tenterà, e sorridendo ti caverà di bocca i tuoi segreti.	14 Affect not to speak with him as an equal: and believe not his many words: for by much talk he will sift thee, and smiling will examine thee concerning thy secrets.
15 L'animo spietato di lui conserverà le tue parole, e non ti risparmierà guai e catene.	15 His cruel mind will lay up thy words: and he will not spare to do thee hurt, and to cast thee into prison.
16 Sta' in guardia e poni ben mente a ciò che ascolti, perchè passeggi con la tua rovina [a fianco].	16 Take heed to thyself, and attend diligently to what thou hearest: for thou walkest in danger of thy ruin.
17 Ascoltando tali cose guarda come trasognato e sta' sveglio.	17 When thou hearest those things, see as it were in sleep, and thou shalt awake.
18 Per tutta la tua vita ama Dio e invocalo a tua salvezza.	18 Love God all thy life, and call upon him for thy salvation.
19 Ogni animale ama il suo simile: così anche ogni uomo il suo vicino.	19 Every beast loveth its like: so also every man him that is nearest to himself.
20 Ogni carne s'unisce col suo congenere, e ogni uomo s'associa col suo simile.	20 All flesh shall consort with the like to itself, and every man shall associate himself to his like.
21 Il lupo avrà mai qualcosa di comune con l'agnello? così il peccatore col giusto!	21 If the wolf shall at any time have fellowship with the lamb, so the sinner with the just.
22 Quale relazione cl può esser tra la iena e il cane? e quale comunanza tra il ricco e il povero?	22 What fellowship hath a holy man with a dog, or what part hath the rich with the poor?
23 Preda del leone è l'onagro nel deserto, e così pasto de' ricchi sono i poveri.	23 The wild ass is the lion's prey in the desert: so also the poor are devoured by the rich.
24 E come è un'abominazione l'umiltà per il superbo, così è un'esecrazione il povero per il ricco.	24 And as humility is an abomination to the proud: so also the rich man abhorreth the poor.
25 Il ricco, se tentenna, è sorretto da' suoi amici, il povero, se cade, è buttato via anche da' suoi conoscenti.	25 When a rich man is shaken, he is kept up by his friends: but when a poor man is fallen down, he is thrust away even by his acquaintance.
26 Se precipita il ricco, molti sono i soccorritori: dice cose insensate, e quelli gli dan ragione.	26 When a rich man hath been deceived, he hath many helpers: he hath spoken proud things, and they have justified him.
27 Precipita il povero? e rimproverato per giunta: dice cose sensate e non gli si dà retta.	27 The poor man was deceived, and he is rebuked also: he hath spoken wisely, and could have no place.
28 Parla il ricco e tutti fan silenzio, e portano alle stelle le sue parole.	28 The rich man spoke, and all held their peace, and what he said they extol even to the clouds.
29 Parla il povero, e dicono: «Chi è costui?», e se incespica, lo buttano a terra.	29 The poor man spoke, and they say: Who is this? and if he stumble, they will overthrow him.
30 Buona è la ricchezza, che non ha il peccato sulla coscienza e trista è la povertà [solo] in bocca all'empio.	30 Riches are good to him that hath no sin in his conscience: and poverty is very wicked in the mouth of the ungodly.
31 Il cuore dell'uomo ne cambia il volto, sia in bene, sia in male.	31 The heart of a man changeth his countenance, either for good, or for evil.
32 Il segno d'un cuore felice, un volto ilare, lo troverai diffìcilmente e con pena.	32 The token of a good heart, and a good countenance thou shalt hardly find, and with labour.
