Matthew 27

1 Then, when morning arrived, all the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so that they might deliver him to death.	1 Cuando amaneció, todos los sumos sacerdotes y ancianos del pueblo deliberaron sobre la manera de hacer ejecutar a Jesús.
2 And they led him, bound, and handed him over to Pontius Pilate, the procurator.	2 Después de haberlo atado, lo llevaron ante Pilato, el gobernador, y se lo entregaron.
3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he had been condemned, regretting his conduct, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the leaders of the priests and the elders,	3 Judas, el que lo entregó, viendo que Jesús había sido condenado, lleno de remordimiento, devolvió las treinta monedas de plata a los sumos sacerdotes y a los ancianos,
4 saying, “I have sinned in betraying just blood.” But they said to him: “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”	4 diciendo: «He pecado, entregando sangre inocente». Ellos respondieron: «¿Qué nos importa? Es asunto tuyo».
5 And throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And going out, he hanged himself with a snare.	5 Entonces él, arrojando las monedas en el Templo, salió y se ahorcó.
6 But the leaders of the priests, having taken up the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the temple offerings, because it is the price of blood.”	6 Los sumos sacerdotes, juntando el dinero, dijeron: «No está permitido ponerlo en el tesoro, porque es precio de sangre».
7 Then, having taken counsel, they bought the potter’s field with it, as a burying place for sojourners.	7 Después de deliberar, compraron con él un campo, llamado «del alfarero», para sepultar a los extranjeros.
8 For this reason, that field is called Haceldama, that is, ‘The Field of Blood,’ even to this very day.	8 Por esta razón se lo llama hasta el día de hoy «Campo de sangre».
9 Then what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one being appraised, whom they appraised before the sons of Israel,	9 Así se cumplió lo anunciado por el profeta Jeremías: Y ellos recogieron las treinta monedas de plata, cantidad en que fue tasado aquel a quien pusieron precio los israelitas.
10 and they gave it for the potter’s field, just as the Lord appointed to me.”	10 Con el dinero se compró el «Campo del alfarero», como el Señor me lo había ordenado.
11 Now Jesus stood before the procurator, and the procurator questioned him, saying, “You are the king of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “You are saying so.”	11 Jesús compareció ante el gobernador, y este le preguntó: «¿Tú eres el rey de los judíos?». El respondió: «Tú lo dices».
12 And when he was accused by the leaders of the priests and the elders, he responded nothing.	12 Al ser acusado por los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos, no respondió nada.
13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how much testimony they speak against you?”	13 Pilato le dijo: «¿No oyes todo lo que declaran contra ti?».
14 And he did not respond any word to him, so that the procurator wondered greatly.	14 Jesús no respondió a ninguna de sus preguntas, y esto dejó muy admirado al gobernador.
15 Now on the solemn day, the procurator was accustomed to release to the people one prisoner, whomever they wished.	15 En cada Fiesta, el gobernador acostumbraba a poner en libertad a un preso, a elección del pueblo.
16 And at that time, he had a notorious prisoner, who was called Barabbas.	16 Había entonces uno famoso, llamado Barrabás.
17 Therefore, having been gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it that you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?”	17 Pilato preguntó al pueblo que estaba reunido: «¿A quién quieren que ponga en libertad, a Barrabás o a Jesús, llamado el Mesías?».
18 For he knew that it was out of envy they had handed him over.	18 El sabía bien que lo habían entregado por envidia.
19 But as he was sitting in the place for the tribunal, his wife sent to him, saying: “It is nothing to you, and he is just. For I have experienced many things today through a vision for his sake.”	19 Mientras estaba sentado en el tribunal, su mujer le mandó decir: «No te mezcles en el asunto de ese justo, porque hoy, por su causa, tuve un sueño que me hizo sufrir mucho».
20 But the leaders of the priests and the elders persuaded the people, so that they would ask for Barabbas, and so that Jesus would perish.	20 Mientras tanto, los sumos sacerdotes y los ancianos convencieron a la multitud que pidiera la libertad de Barrabás y la muerte de Jesús.
21 Then, in response, the procurator said to them, “Which of the two do you want to be released to you?” But they said to him, “Barabbas.”	21 Tomando de nuevo la palabra, el gobernador les preguntó: «¿A cuál de los dos quieren que ponga en libertad?». Ellos respondieron: «A Barrabás».
22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do about Jesus, who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified.”	22 Pilato continuó: «¿Y qué haré con Jesús, llamado el Mesías?». Todos respondieron: «¡Que sea crucificado!».
23 The procurator said to them, “But what evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let him be crucified.”	23 El insistió: «¿Qué mal ha hecho?». Pero ellos gritaban cada vez más fuerte: «¡Que sea crucificado!».
24 Then Pilate, seeing that he was able to accomplish nothing, but that a greater tumult was occurring, taking water, washed his hands in the sight of the people, saying: “I am innocent of the blood of this just man. See to it yourselves.”	24 Al ver que no se llegaba a nada, sino que aumentaba el tumulto, Pilato hizo traer agua y se lavó las manos delante de la multitud, diciendo: «Yo soy inocente de esta sangre. Es asunto de ustedes».
25 And the entire people responded by saying, “May his blood be upon us and upon our children.”	25 Y todo el pueblo respondió: «Que su sangre caiga sobre nosotros y sobre nuestros hijos».
26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But Jesus, having been scourged, he handed over to them, so that he would be crucified.	26 Entonces, Pilato puso en libertad a Barrabás; y a Jesús, después de haberlo hecho azotar, lo entregó para que fuera crucificado.
27 Then the soldiers of the procurator, taking Jesus up to the praetorium, gathered the entire cohort around him.	27 Los soldados del gobernador llevaron a Jesús al pretorio y reunieron a toda la guardia alrededor de él.
28 And stripping him, they put a scarlet cloak around him.	28 Entonces lo desvistieron y le pusieron un manto rojo.
29 And plaiting a crown of thorns, they placed it on his head, with a reed in his right hand. And genuflecting before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews.”	29 Luego tejieron una corona de espinas y la colocaron sobre su cabeza, pusieron una caña en su mano derecha y, doblando la rodilla delante de él, se burlaban, diciendo: «Salud, rey de los judíos».
30 And spitting on him, they took the reed and struck his head.	30 Y escupiéndolo, le quitaron la caña y con ella le golpeaban la cabeza.
31 And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the cloak, and clothed him with his own garments, and they led him away to crucify him.	31 Después de haberse burlado de él, le quitaron el manto, le pusieron de nuevo sus vestiduras y lo llevaron a crucificar.
32 But as they were going out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, named Simon, whom they compelled to take up his cross.	32 Al salir, se encontraron con un hombre de Cirene, llamado Simón, y lo obligaron a llevar la cruz.
33 And they arrived at the place which is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary.	33 Cuando llegaron al lugar llamado Gólgota, que significa «lugar del Cráneo»,
34 And they gave him wine to drink, mixed with gall. And when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it.	34 le dieron de beber vino con hiel. El lo probó, pero no quiso tomarlo.
35 Then, after they had crucified him, they divided his garments, casting lots, in order to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying: “They divided my garments among them, and over my vestment they cast lots.”	35 Después de crucificarlo, los soldados sortearon sus vestiduras y se las repartieron;
36 And sitting down, they observed him.	36 y sentándose allí, se quedaron para custodiarlo.
37 And they set his accusation above his head, written as: THIS IS JESUS, KING OF THE JEWS.	37 Colocaron sobre su cabeza una inscripción con el motivo de su condena: «Este es Jesús, el rey de los judíos».
38 Then two robbers were crucified with him: one on the right and one on the left.	38 Al mismo tiempo, fueron crucificados con él dos ladrones, uno a su derecha y el otro a su izquierda.
39 But those passing by blasphemed him, shaking their heads,	39 Los que pasaban, lo insultaban y, moviendo la cabeza,
40 and saying: “Ah, so you would destroy the temple of God and in three days rebuild it! Save your own self. If you are the Son of God, descend from the cross.”	40 decían: «Tú, que destruyes el Templo y en tres días lo vuelves a edificar, ¡sálvate a ti mismo, si eres Hijo de Dios, y baja de la cruz!».
41 And similarly, the leaders of the priests, with the scribes and the elders, mocking him, said:	41 De la misma manera, los sumos sacerdotes, junto con los escribas y los ancianos, se burlaban, diciendo:
42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him descend now from the cross, and we will believe in him.	42 «¡Ha salvado a otros y no puede salvarse a sí mismo! Es rey de Israel: que baje ahora de la cruz y creeremos en él.
43 He trusted in God; so now, let God free him, if he wills him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ”	43 Ha confiado en Dios; que él lo libre ahora si lo ama, ya que él dijo: «Yo soy Hijo de Dios».
44 Then, the robbers who were crucified with him also reproached him with the very same thing.	44 También lo insultaban los ladrones crucificados con él.
45 Now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over the entire earth, even until the ninth hour.	45 Desde el mediodía hasta las tres de la tarde, las tinieblas cubrieron toda la región.
46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: “Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”	46 Hacia las tres de la tarde, Jesús exclamó en alta voz: «Elí, Elí, lemá sabactani», que significa: «Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?».
47 Then certain ones who were standing and listening there said, “This man calls upon Elijah.”	47 Algunos de los que se encontraban allí, al oírlo, dijeron: «Está llamando a Elías».
48 And one of them, running quickly, took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, and he set it on a reed and he gave it to him to drink.	48 En seguida, uno de ellos corrió a tomar una esponja, la empapó en vinagre y, poniéndola en la punta de una caña, le dio de beber.
49 Yet truly, the others said, “Wait. Let us see whether Elijah will come to free him.”	49 Pero los otros le decían: «Espera, veamos si Elías viene a salvarlo».
50 Then Jesus, crying out again with a loud voice, gave up his life.	50 Entonces Jesús, clamando otra vez con voz potente, entregó su espíritu.
51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn into two parts, from top to bottom. And the earth was shaken, and the rocks were split apart.	51 Inmediatamente, el velo del Templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo, la tierra tembló, las rocas se partieron
52 And the tombs were opened. And many bodies of the saints, which had been sleeping, arose.	52 y las tumbas se abrieron. Muchos cuerpos de santos que habían muerto resucitaron
53 And going out from the tombs, after his resurrection, they went into the holy city, and they appeared to many.	53 y, saliendo de las tumbas después que Jesús resucitó, entraron en la Ciudad santa y se aparecieron a mucha gente.
54 Now the centurion and those who were with him, guarding Jesus, having seen the earthquake and the things that were done, were very fearful, saying: “Truly, this was the Son of God.”	54 El centurión y los hombres que custodiaban a Jesús, al ver el terremoto y todo lo que pasaba, se llenaron de miedo y dijeron: «¡Verdaderamente, este era el Hijo de Dios!».
55 And in that place, there were many women, at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him.	55 Había allí muchas mujeres que miraban de lejos: eran las mismas que habían seguido a Jesús desde Galilea para servirlo.
56 Among these were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.	56 Entre ellas estaban María Magdalena, María –la madre de Santiago y de José– y la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo.
57 Then, when evening had arrived, a certain wealthy man from Arimathea, named Joseph, arrived, who himself was also a disciple of Jesus.	57 Al atardecer, llegó un hombre rico de Arimatea, llamado José, que también se había hecho discípulo de Jesús,
58 This man approached Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be released.	58 y fue a ver a Pilato para pedirle el cuerpo de Jesús. Pilato ordenó que se lo entregaran.
59 And Joseph, taking the body, wrapped it in a clean finely-woven linen cloth,	59 Entonces José tomó el cuerpo, lo envolvió en una sábana limpia
60 and he placed it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out of a rock. And he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and he went away.	60 y lo depositó en un sepulcro nuevo que se había hecho cavar en la roca. Después hizo rodar una gran piedra a la entrada del sepulcro, y se fue.
61 Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulcher.	61 María Magdalena y la otra María estaban sentadas frente al sepulcro.
62 Then the next day, which is after the Preparation day, the leaders of the priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate together,	62 A la mañana siguiente, es decir, después del día de la Preparación, los sumos sacerdotes y los fariseos se reunieron y se presentaron ante Pilato,
63 saying: “Lord, we have remembered that that this seducer said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days, I will rise again.’	63 diciéndole: «Señor, nosotros nos hemos acordado de que ese impostor, cuando aún vivía, dijo: «A los tres días resucitaré».
64 Therefore, order the sepulcher to be guarded until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples may come and steal him, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ And this last error would be worse than the first.”	64 Ordena que el sepulcro sea custodiado hasta el tercer día, no sea que sus discípulos roben el cuerpo y luego digan al pueblo: ¡Ha resucitado!». Este último engaño sería peor que el primero».
65 Pilate said to them: “You have a guard. Go, guard it as you know how.”	65 Pilato les respondió: «Ahí tienen la guardia, vayan y aseguren la vigilancia como lo crean conveniente».
66 Then, going out, they secured the sepulcher with guards, sealing the stone.	66 Ellos fueron y aseguraron la vigilancia del sepulcro, sellando la piedra y dejando allí la guardia.
