Therefore, hear my speeches, Job, and listen to all my words.1 Ten a bien, Job, escuchar mis palabras, presta oído a todas mis razones.
Behold, I have opened my mouth; let my tongue speak along with my throat.2 Ya ves que he abierto mi boca, en mi paladar habla mi lengua.
My words are from my simple heart, and my lips will speak a pure judgment.3 Mi corazón dará palabras cuerdas, la pura verdad dirán mis labios.
The Spirit of God made me, and the breath of the Almighty gave me life.4 El soplo de Dios me hizo, me animó el aliento de Sadday.
If you can, answer me, and oppose me to my face.5 Si eres capaz, replícame, ¡alerta, ponte en guardia ante mí!
Behold, God has made me, just as he also has made you, and I, likewise, have been formed of the same clay.6 Mira, soy como tú, no soy un dios, también yo de arcilla fui plasmado.
So, truly, do not let my wonders terrify you, and do not let my eloquence be burdensome to you.7 Por eso mi terror no te ha de espantar, no pesará mi mano sobre ti.
For you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying:8 No has hecho más que decir a mis propios oídos, - pues he oído el son de tus palabras -:
“I am clean and without sin; I am immaculate, and there is no iniquity in me.9 «Puro soy, sin delito; limpio estoy, no hay culpa en mí.
Yet he has discovered blame in me, and so he has treated me like his enemy.10 Pero él inventa contra mí pretextos, y me reputa como su enemigo;
He has put my feet in fetters; he has kept watch over all my ways.”11 mis pies pone en el cepo, espía todas mis sendas.»
Therefore, it is for this reason that you have not been justified. For I tell you that God is greater than man.12 Pues bien, respondo, en esto no tienes razón, porque Dios es más grande que el hombre.
Do you contend against him because he has not responded to all of your words?13 ¿Por qué te querellas tú con él porque no responda a todas tus palabras?
God speaks once, and he does not repeat the same thing a second time.14 Habla Dios una vez, y otra vez, sin que se le haga caso.
Through a dream in a vision of the night, when a deep sleep falls over men, and they are sleeping in their beds,15 En sueños, en visión nocturna, cuando un letargo cae sobre los hombres, mientras están dormidos en su lecho,
then, he opens the ears of men, and, educating them, he teaches discipline,16 entonces abre él el oído de los hombres, y con sus apariciones les espanta,
so that he may divert a man from the things that he is doing, and may free him from pride,17 para apartar al hombre de sus obras y acabar con su orgullo de varón,
rescuing his soul from corruption and his life from passing away by the sword.18 para librar su alma de la fosa y su vida de pasar el Canal.
Likewise, he rebukes by sorrow in bed, and he causes all of his bones to become weak.19 También es corregido por el dolor en su camilla, por el temblor continuo de sus huesos,
Bread becomes abominable to him in his life, and, to his soul, the meat which before he desired.20 cuando a su vida el alimento asquea y a su alma los manjares exquisitos,
His body will waste away, and his bones, which had been covered, will be revealed.21 cuando su carne desaparece de la vista, y sus huesos, que no se veían, aparecen;
His soul has approached corruption, and his life has drawn near to what is deadly.22 cuando su alma a la fosa se aproxima y su vida a la morada de los muertos.
If there were an angel speaking for him, one among thousands, to declare the fairness of the man,23 Si hay entonces junto a él un Ángel, un Mediador escogido entre mil, que declare al hombre su deber,
he will have mercy on him, and he will say, “Free him, so that he will not descend to destruction. I have found a reason to be favorable to him.24 que de él se apiade y diga: «Líbrale de bajar a la fosa, yo he encontrado el rescate de su alma»,
His body is consumed by suffering. Let him return to the days of his youth.”25 su carne se renueva de vigor juvenil, vuelve a los días de su adolescencia.
He will beg pardon from God, and he will be soothing to him; and he will look upon his face in jubilation, and he will restore his justice to man.26 Invoca a Dios, que le otorga su favor, y va a ver con júbilo su rostro Anuncia a los demás su justicia,
He will consider mankind, and he will say: “I have sinned and truly I have offended, yet I was not treated as I deserved.”27 canta así entre los hombres: «Yo había pecado y torcido el derecho, mas Dios no me ha dado el merecido.
He has freed his soul from continuing into destruction, so that, in living, it may see the light.28 Ha librado mi alma de pasar por la fosa, y mi vida contempla la luz.»
Behold, all these things God works three times within each one,29 He aquí todo lo que hace Dios, dos y tres veces con el hombre,
so that he may revive their souls from corruption and enlighten them with the light of life.30 para recobrar su alma de la fosa, para que sea alumbrado con la luz de los vivos.
Pay attention Job, and listen to me; and remain silent, while I speak.31 Atiende, Job, escúchame, guarda silencio, y yo hablaré.
Yet, if you have anything to say, answer me and speak, for I want you to be treated justly.32 Si tienes algo que decir, replícame, habla, pues yo deseo darte la razón.
But if you do not have anything to say, then listen to me. Be quiet and I will teach you wisdom.33 Si no, escúchame, guarda silencio, y yo te enseñaré sabiduría.
