For the leader. A maskil of David, | 1 [For the choirmaster Poem Of David When Doeg the Edomite went and warned Saul, 'David has goneto Abimelech's house'] Why take pride in being wicked, you champion in vil ainy, al day long |
when Doeg the Edomite went and told Saul, "David went to the house of Ahimelech." | 2 plotting crime? Your tongue is razor-sharp, you artist in perfidy. |
Why do you glory in evil, you scandalous liar? All day long | 3 You prefer evil to good, lying to uprightness. Pause |
you plot destruction; your tongue is like a sharpened razor, you skillful deceiver. | 4 You revel in destructive talk, treacherous tongue! |
You love evil rather than good, lies rather than honest speech. Selah | 5 That is why God wil crush you, destroy you once and for all, snatch you from your tent, uproot youfrom the land of the living.Pause |
You love any word that destroys, you deceitful tongue. | 6 The upright wil be awestruck as they see it, they wil mock him, |
Now God will strike you down, leave you crushed forever, Pluck you from your tent, uproot you from the land of the living. Selah | 7 'So much for someone who would not place his reliance in God, but relied on his own great wealth, and made himself strong by crime.' |
The righteous will look on with awe; they will jeer and say: | 8 But I, like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God, put my trust in God's faithful love, for ever andever. |
"That one did not take God as a refuge, but trusted in great wealth, relied on devious plots." | 9 I shal praise you for ever for what you have done, and shal trust in your name, so ful of goodness, inthe presence of your faithful. |
But I, like an olive tree in the house of God, trust in God's faithful love forever. | |
I will praise you always for what you have done. I will proclaim before the faithful that your name is good. |
