Première épître aux Corinthiens 8

1 Pour ce qui est des viandes immolées aux idoles, nous avons tous la science, c'est entendu.Mais la science enfle; c'est la charité qui édifie.	1 Now concerning those things that are sacrificed to idols: we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity builds up.
2 Si quelqu'un s'imagine connaître quelque chose, il ne connaît pas encore comme il fautconnaître;	2 But if anyone considers himself to know anything, he does not yet know in the way that he ought to know.
3 mais si quelqu'un aime Dieu, celui-là est connu de lui.	3 For if anyone loves God, he is known by him.
4 Donc, pour ce qui est de manger des viandes immolées aux idoles, nous savons qu'une idolen'est rien dans le monde et qu'il n'est de Dieu que le Dieu unique.	4 But as to the foods that are immolated to idols, we know that an idol in the world is nothing, and that no one is God, except One.
5 Car, bien qu'il y ait, soit au ciel, soit sur la terre, de prétendus dieux - et de fait il y a quantitéde dieux et quantité de seigneurs --,	5 For although there are things that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, (if one even considers there to be many gods and many lords)
6 pour nous en tout cas, il n'y a qu'un seul Dieu, le Père, de qui tout vient et pour qui noussommes, et un seul Seigneur, Jésus Christ, par qui tout existe et par qui nous sommes.	6 yet we know that there is only one God, the Father, from whom all things are, and in whom we are, and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and by whom we are.
7 Mais tous n'ont pas la science. Certains, par suite de leur fréquentation encore récente desidoles, mangent les viandes immolées comme telles, et leur conscience, qui est faible, s'en trouve souillée.	7 But knowledge is not in everyone. For some persons, even now, with consent to an idol, eat what has been sacrificed to an idol. And their conscience, being infirm, becomes polluted.
8 Ce n'est pas un aliment, certes, qui nous rapprochera de Dieu. Si nous n'en mangeons pas,nous n'avons rien de moins; et si nous en mangeons, nous n'avons rien de plus.	8 Yet food does not commend us to God. For if we eat, we will not have more, and if we do not eat, we will not have less.
9 Mais prenez garde que cette liberté dont vous usez ne devienne pour les faibles occasions dechute.	9 But be careful not to let your liberty become a cause of sin to those who are weak.
10 Si en effet quelqu'un te voit, toi qui as la science, attablé dans un temple d'idoles, saconscience à lui qui est faible ne va-t-elle pas se croire autorisée à manger des viandes immolées aux idoles?	10 For if anyone sees someone with knowledge sitting down to eat in idolatry, will not his own conscience, being infirm, be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?
11 Et ta science alors va faire périr le faible, ce frère pour qui le Christ est mort!	11 And should an infirm brother perish by your knowledge, even though Christ died for him?
12 En péchant ainsi contre vos frères, en blessant leur conscience, qui est faible, c'est contre leChrist que vous péchez.	12 So when you sin in this way against the brothers, and you harm their weakened conscience, then you sin against Christ.
13 C'est pourquoi, si un aliment doit causer la chute de mon frère, je me passerai de viande àtout jamais, afin de ne pas causer la chute de mon frère.	13 Because of this, if food leads my brother to sin, I will never eat meat, lest I lead my brother to sin.
