| 1 Frères, certes l'élan de mon coeur et ma prière à Dieu pour eux, c'est qu'ils soient sauvés. | 1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. |
| 2 Car je leur rends témoignage qu'ils ont du zèle pour Dieu; mais c'est un zèle mal éclairé. | 2 I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened. |
| 3 Méconnaissant la justice de Dieu et cherchant à établir la leur propre, ils ont refusé de sesoumettre à la justice de Dieu. | 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. |
| 4 Car la fin de la Loi, c'est le Christ pour la justification de tout croyant. | 4 For Christ is the end of the law, that every one who has faith may be justified. |
| 5 Moïse écrit en effet de la justice née de la Loi qu'en l'accomplissant l'homme vivra par elle, | 5 Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on the law shall live by it. |
| 6 tandis que la justice née de la foi, elle, parle ainsi: Ne dis pas dans ton coeur: Qui montrera auciel? Entends: pour en faire descendre le Christ; | 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, Do not say in your heart, "Who will ascend into heaven?" (that is, to bring Christ down) |
| 7 ou bien: Qui descendra dans l'abîme? Entends: pour faire remonter le Christ de chez les morts. | 7 or "Who will descend into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). |
| 8 Que dit-elle donc? La parole est tout près de toi, sur tes lèvres et dans ton coeur, entends: laparole de la foi que nous prêchons. | 8 But what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); |
| 9 En effet, si tes lèvres confessent que Jésus est Seigneur et si ton coeur croit que Dieu l'a ressuscitédes morts, tu seras sauvé. | 9 because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. |
| 10 Car la foi du coeur obtient la justice, et la confession des lèvres, le salut. | 10 For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. |
| 11 L'Ecriture ne dit-elle pas: Quiconque croit en lui ne sera pas confondu? | 11 The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." |
| 12 Aussi bien n'y a-t-il pas de distinction entre Juif et Grec: tous ont le même Seigneur, richeenvers tous ceux qui l'invoquent. | 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches upon all who call upon him. |
| 13 En effet, quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé. | 13 For, "every one who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." |
| 14 Mais comment l'invoquer sans d'abord croire en lui? Et comment croire sans d'abord l'entendre?Et comment entendre sans prédicateur? | 14 But how are men to call upon him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without a preacher? |
| 15 Et comment prêcher sans être d'abord envoyé? Selon le mot de l'Ecriture: Qu'ils sont beaux lespieds des messagers de bonnes nouvelles! | 15 And how can men preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach good news!" |
| 16 Mais tous n'ont pas obéi à la Bonne Nouvelle. Car Isaïe l'a dit: Seigneur, qui a cru à notreprédication? | 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel; for Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" |
| 17 Ainsi la foi naît de la prédication et la prédication se fait par la parole du Christ. | 17 So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ. |
| 18 Or je demande: n'auraient-ils pas entendu? Et pourtant leur voix a retenti par toute la terre etleurs paroles jusqu'aux extrémités du monde. | 18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have; for "Their voice has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world." |
| 19 Mais je demande: Israël n'aurait-il pas compris? Déjà Moïse dit: Je vous rendrai jaloux de ce quin'est pas une nation, contre une nation sans intelligence j'exciterai votre dépit. | 19 Again I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says, "I will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I will make you angry." |
| 20 Et Isaïe ose ajouter: J'ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas, je me suis manifesté àceux qui ne m'interrogeaient pas, | 20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, "I have been found by those who did not seek me; I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me." |
| 21 tandis qu'il dit à l'adresse d'Israël: Tout le jour j'ai tendu les mains vers un peuple désobéissant etrebelle. | 21 But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people." |
