1 Ils parlaient encore au peuple quand survinrent les prêtres, le commandant du Temple et lesSadducéens,	1 But while they were speaking to the people, the priests and the magistrate of the temple and the Sadducees overwhelmed them,
2 contrariés de les voir enseigner le peuple et annoncer en la personne de Jésus la résurrection desmorts.	2 being grieved that they were teaching the people and announcing in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
3 Ils mirent la main sur eux et les emprisonnèrent jusqu'au lendemain, car déjà le soir tombait.	3 And they laid hands on them, and they placed them under guard until the next day. For it was now evening.
4 Cependant beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu la parole embrassèrent la foi, et le nombre desfidèles, en ne comptant que les hommes, fut d'environ 5.000.	4 But many of those who had heard the word believed. And the number of men became five thousand.
5 Le lendemain les chefs des Juifs, les anciens et les scribes se rassemblèrent à Jérusalem.	5 And it happened on the next day that their leaders and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem,
6 Il y avait là Anne le grand prêtre, Caïphe, Jonathan, Alexandre et tous les membres des famillespontificales.	6 including Annas, the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John and Alexander, and as many as were of the priestly family.
7 Ils firent comparaître les apôtres et se mirent à les questionner: "Par quel pouvoir ou par quel nomavez-vous fait cela, vous autres?"	7 And stationing them in the middle, they questioned them: “By what power, or in whose name, have you done this?”
8 Alors Pierre, rempli de l'Esprit Saint, leur dit: "Chefs du peuple et anciens,	8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Leaders of the people and elders, listen.
9 puisqu'aujourd'hui nous avons à répondre en justice du bien fait à un infirme et du moyen par lequel ila été guéri,	9 If we today are judged by a good deed done to an infirm man, by which he has been made whole,
10 sachez-le bien, vous tous, ainsi que tout le peuple d'Israël: c'est par le nom de Jésus Christ leNazôréen, celui que vous, vous avez crucifié, et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts, c'est par son nom et par nulautre que cet homme se présente guéri devant vous.	10 let it be known to all of you and to all of the people of Israel, that in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God has raised from the dead, by him, this man stands before you, healthy.
11 C'est lui la pierre que vous, les bâtisseurs, avez dédaignée, et qui est devenue la pierre d'angle.	11 He is the stone, which was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the head of the corner.
12 Car il n'y a pas sous le ciel d'autre nom donné aux hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés."	12 And there is no salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, by which it is necessary for us to be saved.”
13 Considérant l'assurance de Pierre et de Jean et se rendant compte que c'étaient des gens sansinstruction ni culture, les sanhédrites étaient dans l'étonnement. Ils reconnaissaient bien en eux ceux qui étaientavec Jésus;	13 Then, seeing the constancy of Peter and John, having verified that they were men without letters or learning, they wondered. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
14 en même temps ils voyaient, debout auprès d'eux, l'homme qui avait été guéri; aussi n'avaient-ils rienà répliquer.	14 Also, seeing the man who had been cured standing with them, they were unable to say anything to contradict them.
15 Ils les firent alors sortir du Sanhédrin et se mirent à délibérer entre eux.	15 But they ordered them to withdraw outside, away from the council, and they conferred among themselves,
16 Ils disaient: "Qu'allons-nous faire à ces gens-là? Qu'un signe notoire ait été opéré par eux, c'est tropclair pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et nous ne pouvons le nier.	16 saying: “What shall we do to these men? For certainly a public sign has been done through them, before all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. It is manifest, and we cannot deny it.
17 Mais pour que cela ne se répande pas davantage dans le peuple, empêchons-les par des menaces deparler désormais à qui que ce soit en ce nom-là."	17 But lest it spread further among the people, let us threaten them not to speak anymore in this name to any man.”
18 Ils les rappelèrent donc et leur défendirent de souffler mot et d'enseigner au nom de Jésus.	18 And calling them in, they warned them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
19 Mais Pierre et Jean de leur rétorquer: "S'il est juste aux yeux de Dieu de vous obéir plutôt qu'à Dieu,à vous d'en juger.	19 Yet truly, Peter and John said in response to them: “Judge whether it is just in the sight of God to listen to you, rather than to God.
20 Nous ne pouvons pas, quant à nous, ne pas publier ce que nous avons vu et entendu."	20 For we are unable to refrain from speaking the things that we have seen and heard.”
21 Cependant, après de nouvelles menaces, ils les relâchèrent, ne voyant pas comment les punir, à causedu peuple: car tout le monde glorifiait Dieu de ce qui s'était passé.	21 But they, threatening them, sent them away, having not found a way that they might punish them because of the people. For all were glorifying the things that had been done in these events.
22 L'homme guéri miraculeusement avait en effet plus de 40 ans.	22 For the man in whom this sign of a cure had been accomplished was more than forty years old.
23 Une fois relâchés, ils se rendirent auprès des leurs et rapportèrent tout ce que les grands prêtres et lesanciens leur avaient dit.	23 Then, having been released, they went to their own, and they reported in full what the leaders of the priests and the elders had said to them.
24 A ce récit, d'un seul élan, ils élevèrent la voix vers Dieu et dirent: "Maître, c'est toi qui as fait le ciel,la terre, la mer et tout ce qui s'y trouve;	24 And when they had heard it, with one accord, they lifted up their voice to God, and they said: “Lord, you are the One who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them,
25 c'est toi qui as dit par l'Esprit Saint et par la bouche de notre père David, ton serviteur: Pourquoi cettearrogance chez les nations, ces vains projets chez les peuples?	25 who, by the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said: ‘Why have the Gentiles been seething, and why have the people been pondering nonsense?
26 Les rois de la terre se sont mis en campagne et les magistrats se sont rassemblés de concert contre leSeigneur et contre son Oint.	26 The kings of the earth have stood up, and the leaders have joined together as one, against the Lord and against his Christ.’
27 Oui vraiment, ils se sont rassemblés dans cette ville contre ton saint serviteur Jésus, que tu as oint,Hérode et Ponce Pilate avec les nations païennes et les peuples d'Israël,	27 For truly Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, joined together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed
28 pour accomplir tout ce que, dans ta puissance et ta sagesse, tu avais déterminé par avance.	28 to do what your hand and your counsel had decreed would be done.
29 A présent donc, Seigneur, considère leurs menaces et, afin de permettre à tes serviteurs d'annoncer taparole en toute assurance,	29 And now, O Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to your servants that they may speak your word with all confidence,
30 étends la main pour opérer des guérisons, signes et prodiges par le nom de ton saint serviteur Jésus."	30 by extending your hand in cures and signs and miracles, to be done through the name of your holy Son, Jesus.”
31 Tandis qu'ils priaient, l'endroit où ils se trouvaient réunis trembla; tous furent alors remplis du SaintEsprit et se mirent à annoncer la parole de Dieu avec assurance.	31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered was moved. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. And they were speaking the Word of God with confidence.
32 La multitude des croyants n'avait qu'un coeur et qu'une âme. Nul ne disait sien ce qui lui appartenait,mais entre eux tout était commun.	32 Then the multitude of believers were of one heart and one soul. Neither did anyone say that any of the things that he possessed were his own, but all things were common to them.
33 Avec beaucoup de puissance, les apôtres rendaient témoignage à la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus, etils jouissaient tous d'une grande faveur.	33 And with great power, the Apostles were rendering testimony to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord. And great grace was in them all.
34 Aussi parmi eux nul n'était dans le besoin; car tous ceux qui possédaient des terres ou des maisonsles vendaient, apportaient le prix de la vente	34 And neither was anyone among them in need. For as many as were owners of fields or houses, selling these, were bringing the proceeds of the things that they were selling,
35 et le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres. On distribuait alors à chacun suivant ses besoins.	35 and were placing it before the feet of the Apostles. Then it was divided to each one, just as he had need.
36 Joseph, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabé (ce qui veut dire fils d'encouragement), lévite originairede Chypre,	36 Now Joseph, who the Apostles surnamed Barnabas (which is translated as ‘son of consolation’), who was a Levite of Cyprian descent,
37 possédait un champ; il le vendit, apporta l'argent et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.	37 since he had land, he sold it, and he brought the proceeds and placed these at the feet of the Apostles.
