1 Après cela, Jésus parcourait la Galilée; il n'avait pas pouvoir de circuler en Judée, parce que les Juifscherchaient à le tuer.	1 Then, after these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee. For he was not willing to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him.
2 Or la fête juive des Tentes était proche.	2 Now the feast day of the Jews, the Feast of Tabernacles, was near.
3 Ses frères lui dirent donc: "Passe d'ici en Judée, que tes disciples aussi voient les oeuvres que tu fais:	3 And his brothers said to him: “Move away from here and go into Judea, so that your disciples there may also see your works that you do.
4 on n'agit pas en secret, quand on veut être en vue. Puisque tu fais ces choses-là, manifeste-toi aumonde."	4 Of course, no one does anything in secret, but he himself seeks to be in the public view. Since you do these things, manifest yourself to the world.”
5 Pas même ses frères en effet ne croyaient en lui.	5 For neither did his brothers believe in him.
6 Jésus leur dit alors: "Mon temps n'est pas encore venu, tandis que le vôtre est toujours prêt.	6 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “My time has not yet come; but your time is always at hand.
7 Le monde ne peut pas vous haïr; mais moi, il me hait, parce que je témoigne que ses oeuvres sontmauvaises.	7 The world cannot hate you. But it hates me, because I offer testimony about it, that its works are evil.
8 Vous, montez à la fête; moi, je ne monte pas à cette fête, parce que mon temps n'est pas encoreaccompli."	8 You may go up to this feast day. But I am not going up to this feast day, because my time has not yet been fulfilled.”
9 Cela dit, il resta en Galilée.	9 When he had said these things, he himself remained in Galilee.
10 Mais quand ses frères furent montés à la fête, alors il monta lui aussi, pas au grand jour, mais ensecret.	10 But after his brothers went up, then he also went up to the feast day, not openly, but as if in secret.
11 Les Juifs le cherchaient donc pendant la fête et disaient: "Où est-il?"	11 Therefore, the Jews were seeking him on the feast day, and they were saying, “Where is he?”
12 On chuchotait beaucoup sur son compte dans les foules. Les uns disaient: "C'est un homme de bien."D'autres disaient: "Non, il égare la foule."	12 And there was much murmuring in the crowd concerning him. For certain ones were saying, “He is good.” But others were saying, “No, for he seduces the crowds.”
13 Pourtant personne ne s'exprimait ouvertement à son sujet par peur des Juifs.	13 Yet no one was speaking openly about him, out of fear of the Jews.
14 On était déjà au milieu de la fête, lorsque Jésus monta au Temple et se mit à enseigner.	14 Then, about the middle of the feast, Jesus ascended into the temple, and he was teaching.
15 Les Juifs, étonnés, disaient: "Comment connaît-il les lettres sans avoir étudié?"	15 And the Jews wondered, saying: “How does this one know letters, though he has not been taught?”
16 Jésus leur répondit: "Ma doctrine n'est pas de moi, mais de celui qui m'a envoyé.	16 Jesus responded to them and said: “My doctrine is not of me, but of him who sent me.
17 Si quelqu'un veut faire sa volonté, il reconnaîtra si ma doctrine est de Dieu ou si je parle de moi-même.	17 If anyone has chosen to do his will, then he will realize, about the doctrine, whether it is from God, or whether I am speaking from myself.
18 Celui qui parle de lui-même cherche sa propre gloire; mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l'aenvoyé, celui-là est véridique et il n'y a pas en lui d'imposture.	18 Whoever speaks from himself seeks his own glory. But whoever seeks the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and injustice is not in him.
19 Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la Loi? Et aucun de vous ne la pratique, la Loi! Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me tuer?"	19 Did not Moses give you the law? And yet not one among you keeps the law!
20 La foule répondit: "Tu as un démon. Qui cherche à te tuer?"	20 Why are you seeking to kill me?” The crowd responded and said: “You must have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?”
21 Jésus leur répondit: "Pour une seule oeuvre que j'ai faite, vous voilà tous étonnés.	21 Jesus responded and said to them: “One work have I done, and you all wonder.
22 Moïse vous a donné la circoncision - non qu'elle vienne de Moïse mais des patriarches - et, le jour dusabbat, vous la pratiquez sur un homme.	22 For Moses gave you circumcision, (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers) and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.
23 Alors, un homme reçoit la circoncision, le jour du sabbat, pour que ne soit pas enfreinte la Loi deMoïse, et vous vous indignez contre moi parce que j'ai guéri un homme tout entier le jour du sabbat?	23 If a man can receive circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you indignant toward me, because I have made a man whole on the Sabbath?
24 Cessez de juger sur l'apparence; jugez selon la justice."	24 Do not judge according to appearances, but instead judge a just judgment.”
25 Certains, des gens de Jérusalem, disaient: "N'est-ce pas lui qu'ils cherchent à tuer?	25 Therefore, some of those from Jerusalem said: “Is he not the one whom they are seeking to kill?
26 Et le voilà qui parle ouvertement sans qu'ils lui disent rien! Est-ce que vraiment les autorités auraientreconnu qu'il est le Christ?	26 And behold, he is speaking openly, and they say nothing to him. Could the leaders have decided that it is true this one is the Christ?
27 Mais lui, nous savons d'où il est, tandis que le Christ, à sa venue, personne ne saura d'où il est."	27 But we know him and where he is from. And when the Christ has arrived, no one will know where he is from.”
28 Alors Jésus, enseignant dans le Temple, s'écria: "Vous me connaissez et vous savez d'où je suis; etpourtant ce n'est pas de moi-même que je suis venu, mais il m'envoie vraiment, celui qui m'a envoyé. Vous, vousne le connaissez pas.	28 Therefore, Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying: “You know me, and you also know where I am from. And I have not arrived of myself, but he who sent me is true, and him you do not know.
29 Moi, je le connais, parce que je viens d'auprès de lui et c'est lui qui m'a envoyé."	29 I know him. For I am from him, and he has sent me.”
30 Ils cherchaient alors à le saisir, mais personne ne porta la main sur lui, parce que son heure n'était pasencore venue.	30 Therefore, they were seeking to apprehend him, and yet no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.
31 Dans la foule, beaucoup crurent en lui et disaient: "Le Christ, quand il viendra, fera-t-il plus de signesque n'en a fait celui-ci?	31 But many among the crowd believed in him, and they were saying, “When the Christ arrives, will he perform more signs than this man does?”
32 Ces rumeurs de la foule à son sujet parvinrent aux oreilles des Pharisiens. Ils envoyèrent des gardespour le saisir.	32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about him. And the leaders and the Pharisees sent attendants to apprehend him.
33 Jésus dit alors: "Pour un peu de temps encore je suis avec vous, et je m'en vais vers celui qui m'aenvoyé.	33 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, I am still with you, and then I am going to him who sent me.
34 Vous me chercherez, et ne me trouverez pas; et où je suis, vous ne pouvez pas venir."	34 You shall seek me, and you will not find me. And where I am, you are not able to go.”
35 Les Juifs se dirent entre eux: "Où va-t-il aller, que nous ne le trouverons pas? Va-t-il rejoindre ceuxqui sont dispersés chez les Grecs et enseigner les Grecs?	35 And so the Jews said among themselves: “Where is this place to which he will go, such that we will not find him? Will he go to those dispersed among the Gentiles and teach the Gentiles?
36 Que signifie cette parole qu'il a dite: Vous me chercherez et ne me trouverez pas; et où je suis, vous nepouvez pas venir?"	36 What is this word that he spoke, ‘You will seek me and you will not find me; and where I am, you are not able to go?’ ”
37 Le dernier jour de la fête, le grand jour, Jésus, debout, s'écria: "Si quelqu'un a soif, qu'il vienne à moi,et qu'il boive,	37 Then, on the last great day of the feast, Jesus was standing and crying out, saying: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink:
38 celui qui croit en moi!" selon le mot de l'Ecriture: De son sein couleront des fleuves d'eau vive.	38 whoever believes in me, just as Scripture says, ‘From his chest shall flow rivers of living water.’ ”
39 Il parlait de l'Esprit que devaient recevoir ceux qui avaient cru en lui; car il n'y avait pas encored'Esprit, parce que Jésus n'avait pas encore été glorifié.	39 Now he said this about the Spirit, which those who believe in him would soon be receiving. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
40 Dans la foule, plusieurs, qui avaient entendu ces paroles, disaient: "C'est vraiment lui le prophète!"	40 Therefore, some from that crowd, when they had heard these words of his, were saying, “This one truly is the Prophet.”
41 D'autres disaient: "C'est le Christ!" Mais d'autres disaient: "Est-ce de la Galilée que le Christ doitvenir?	41 Others were saying, “He is the Christ.” Yet certain ones were saying: “Does the Christ come from Galilee?
42 L'Ecriture n'a-t-elle pas dit que c'est de la descendance de David et de Bethléem, le village où étaitDavid, que doit venir le Christ?"	42 Does Scripture not say that the Christ comes from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?”
43 Une scission se produisit donc dans la foule, à cause de lui.	43 And so there arose a dissension among the multitude because of him.
44 Certains d'entre eux voulaient le saisir, mais personne ne porta la main sur lui.	44 Now certain ones among them wanted to apprehended him, but no one laid hands upon him.
45 Les gardes revinrent donc trouver les grands prêtres et les Pharisiens. Ceux-ci leur dirent: "Pourquoine l'avez-vous pas amené?"	45 Therefore, the attendants went to the high priests and the Pharisees. And they said to them, “Why have you not brought him?”
46 Les gardes répondirent: "Jamais homme n'a parlé comme cela!"	46 The attendants responded, “Never has a man spoken like this man.”
47 Les Pharisiens répliquèrent: "Vous aussi, vous êtes-vous laissé égarer?	47 And so the Pharisees answered them: “Have you also been seduced?
48 Est-il un des notables qui ait cru en lui? Ou un des Pharisiens?	48 Have any of the leaders believed in him, or any of the Pharisees?
49 Mais cette foule qui ne connaît pas la Loi, ce sont des maudits!"	49 But this crowd, which does not know the law, they are accursed.”
50 Nicodème, l'un d'entre eux, celui qui était venu trouver Jésus précédemment, leur dit:	50 Nicodemus, the one who came to him by night and who was one of them, said to them,
51 "Notre Loi juge-t-elle un homme sans d'abord l'entendre et savoir ce qu'il fait!"	51 “Does our law judge a man, unless it has first heard him and has known what he has done?”
52 Ils lui répondirent: "Es-tu de la Galilée, toi aussi? Etudie! Tu verras que ce n'est pas de la Galilée quesurgit le prophète."	52 They responded and said to him: “Are you also a Galilean? Study the Scriptures, and see that a prophet does not arise from Galilee.”
53 Et ils s'en allèrent chacun chez soi.	53 And each one returned to his own house.
