1 Je vous ai dit cela pour vous éviter le scandale.	1 “These things I have spoken to you, so that you would not stumble.
2 On vous exclura des synagogues. Bien plus, l'heure vient où quiconque vous tuera pensera rendre unculte à Dieu.	2 They will put you out of the synagogues. But the hour is coming when everyone who puts you to death will consider that he is offering an excellent service to God.
3 Et cela, ils le feront pour n'avoir reconnu ni le Père ni moi.	3 And they will do these things to you because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 Mais je vous ai dit cela, pour qu'une fois leur heure venue, vous vous rappeliez que je vous l'ai dit. "Jene vous ai pas dit cela dès le commencement, parce que j'étais avec vous.	4 But these things I have spoken to you, so that, when the hour for these things will have arrived, you may remember that I told you.
5 Mais maintenant je m'en vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé et aucun de vous ne me demande: Où vas-tu?	5 But I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I am going to him who sent me. And no one among you has asked me, ‘Where are you going?’
6 Mais parce que je vous ai dit cela, la tristesse remplit vos coeurs.	6 But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Cependant je vous dis la vérité: c'est votre intérêt que je parte; car si je ne pars pas, le Paraclet neviendra pas vers vous; mais si je pars, je vous l'enverrai.	7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I am going. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But when I will have gone away, I will send him to you.
8 Et lui, une fois venu, il établira la culpabilité du monde en fait de péché, en fait de justice et en fait dejugement:	8 And when he has arrived, he will argue against the world, about sin and about justice and about judgment:
9 de péché, parce qu'ils ne croient pas en moi;	9 about sin, indeed, because they have not believed in me;
10 de justice, parce que je vais vers le Père et que vous ne me verrez plus;	10 about justice, truly, because I am going to the Father, and you will not see me any longer;
11 de jugement, parce que le Prince de ce monde est jugé.	11 about judgment, then, because the prince of this world has already been judged.
12 J'ai encore beaucoup à vous dire, mais vous ne pouvez pas le porter à présent.	12 I still have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now.
13 Mais quand il viendra, lui, l'Esprit de vérité, il vous introduira dans la vérité tout entière; car il neparlera pas de lui-même, mais ce qu'il entendra, il le dira et il vous dévoilera les choses à venir.	13 But when the Spirit of truth has arrived, he will teach the whole truth to you. For he will not be speaking from himself. Instead, whatever he will hear, he will speak. And he will announce to you the things that are to come.
14 Lui me glorifiera, car c'est de mon bien qu'il recevra et il vous le dévoilera.	14 He shall glorify me. For he will receive from what is mine, and he will announce it to you.
15 Tout ce qu'a le Père est à moi. Voilà pourquoi j'ai dit que c'est de mon bien qu'il reçoit et qu'il vous ledévoilera.	15 All things whatsoever that the Father has are mine. For this reason, I said that he will receive from what is mine and that he will announce it to you.
16 "Encore un peu, et vous ne me verrez plus, et puis un peu encore, et vous me verrez."	16 A little while, and then you will not see me. And again a little while, and you will see me. For I am going to the Father.”
17 Quelques-uns de ses disciples se dirent entre eux: "Qu'est-ce qu'il nous dit là: Encore un peu, et vousne me verrez plus, et puis un peu encore, et vous me verrez, et: Je vais vers le Père?"	17 Then some of his disciples said to one another: “What is this, that he is saying to us: ‘A little while, and you will not see me,’ and ‘Again a little while, and you will see me,’ and, ‘For I am going to the Father?’ ”
18 Ils disaient: "Qu'est-ce que ce: un peu? Nous ne savons pas ce qu'il veut dire."	18 And they said: “What is this, that he is saying, ‘A little while?’ We do not understand what he is saying.”
19 Jésus comprit qu'ils voulaient le questionner et il leur dit: "Vous vous interrogez entre vous sur ceque j'ai dit: Encore un peu, et vous ne me verrez plus, et puis un peu encore, et vous me verrez.	19 But Jesus realized that they wanted to question him, and so he said to them: “Are you inquiring among yourselves about this, that I said: ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?’
20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous pleurerez et vous vous lamenterez, et le monde se réjouira;vous serez tristes, mais votre tristesse se changera en joie.	20 Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall mourn and weep, but the world will rejoice. And you shall be greatly saddened, yet your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 La femme, sur le point d'accoucher, s'attriste parce que son heure est venue; mais lorsqu'elle a donnéle jour à l'enfant, elle ne se souvient plus des douleurs, dans la joie qu'un homme soit venu au monde.	21 A woman, when she is giving birth, has sorrow, because her hour has arrived. But when she has given birth to the child, then she no longer remembers the difficulties, because of the joy: for a man has been born into the world.
22 Vous aussi, maintenant vous voilà tristes; mais je vous verrai de nouveau et votre coeur sera dans lajoie, et votre joie, nul ne vous l'enlèvera.	22 Therefore, you also, indeed, have sorrow now. But I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice. And no one will take away your joy from you.
23 Ce jour-là, vous ne me poserez aucune question. En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, ce que vousdemanderez au Père, il vous le donnera en mon nom.	23 And, in that day, you will not petition me for anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in my name, he will give it to you.
24 Jusqu'à présent vous n'avez rien demandé en mon nom; demandez et vous recevrez, pour que votrejoie soit complète.	24 Until now, you have not requested anything in my name. Ask, and you shall receive, so that your joy may be full.
25 Tout cela, je vous l'ai dit en figures. L'heure vient où je ne vous parlerai plus en figures, mais je vousentretiendrai du Père en toute clarté.	25 I have spoken these things to you in proverbs. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs; instead, I will announce to you plainly from the Father.
26 Ce jour-là, vous demanderez en mon nom et je ne vous dis pas que j'interviendrai pour vous auprèsdu Père,	26 In that day, you shall ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you.
27 car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m'aimez et que vous croyez que je suis sorti d'auprèsde Dieu.	27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and because you have believed that I went forth from God.
28 Je suis sorti d'auprès du Père et venu dans le monde. De nouveau je quitte le monde et je vais vers lePère."	28 I went forth from the Father, and I have come into the world. Next I am leaving the world, and I am going to the Father.”
29 Ses disciples lui disent: "Voilà que maintenant tu parles en clair et sans figures!	29 His disciples said to him: “Behold, now you are speaking plainly and not reciting a proverb.
30 Nous savons maintenant que tu sais tout et n'as pas besoin qu'on te questionne. A cela nous croyonsque tu es sorti de Dieu."	30 Now we know that you know all things, and that you have no need for anyone to question you. By this, we believe that you went forth from God.”
31 Jésus leur répondit: "Vous croyez à présent?	31 Jesus answered them: “Do you believe now?
32 Voici venir l'heure - et elle est venue - où vous serez dispersés chacun de votre côté et me laisserezseul. Mais je ne suis pas seul: le Père est avec moi.	32 Behold, the hour is coming, and it has now arrived, when you will be scattered, each one on his own, and you will leave me behind, alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 Je vous ai dit ces choses, pour que vous ayez la paix en moi. Dans le monde vous aurez à souffrir.Mais gardez courage! J'ai vaincu le monde."	33 These things I have spoken to you, so that you may have peace in me. In the world, you will have difficulties. But have confidence: I have overcome the world.”
