JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 En ce temps-là Jésus vint à passer, un jour de sabbat, à travers les moissons. Ses disciples eurentfaim et se mirent à arracher des épis et à les manger.	1 At that time Jesus went through the cornfields one Sabbath day. His disciples were hungry and beganto pick ears of corn and eat them.
2 Ce que voyant, les Pharisiens lui dirent: "Voilà tes disciples qui font ce qu'il n'est pas permis defaire pendant le sabbat!"	2 The Pharisees noticed it and said to him, 'Look, your disciples are doing something that is forbiddenon the Sabbath.'
3 Mais il leur dit: "N'avez-vous pas lu ce que fit David lorsqu'il eut faim, lui et ses compagnons?	3 But he said to them, 'Have you not read what David did when he and his fol owers were hungry-
4 Comment il entra dans la demeure de Dieu et comment ils mangèrent les pains d'oblation, qu'il nelui était pas permis de manger, ni à ses compagnons, mais aux prêtres seuls?	4 how he went into the house of God and they ate the loaves of the offering although neither he nor hisfol owers were permitted to eat them, but only the priests?
5 Ou n'avez-vous pas lu dans la Loi que, le jour du sabbat, les prêtres dans le Temple violent lesabbat sans être en faute?	5 Or again, have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath day the Temple priests break the Sabbathwithout committing any fault?
6 Or, je vous le dis, il y a ici plus grand que le Temple.	6 Now here, I tel you, is something greater than the Temple.
7 Et si vous aviez compris ce que signifie: C'est la miséricorde que je veux, et non le sacrifice, vousn'auriez pas condamné des gens qui sont sans faute.	7 And if you had understood the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice, youwould not have condemned the blameless.
8 Car le Fils de l'homme est maître du sabbat."	8 For the Son of man is master of the Sabbath.'
9 Parti de là, il vint dans leur synagogue.	9 He moved on from there and went to their synagogue;
10 Et voici un homme qui avait une main sèche, et ils lui posèrent cette question: "Est-il permis deguérir, le jour du sabbat?" afin de l'accuser.	10 now a man was there with a withered hand. They asked him, 'Is it permitted to cure somebody on theSabbath day?' hoping for something to charge him with.
11 Mais il leur dit: "Quel sera d'entre vous l'homme qui aura une seule brebis, et si elle tombe dansun trou, le jour du sabbat, n'ira la prendre et la relever?	11 But he said to them, 'If any one of you here had only one sheep and it fell down a hole on theSabbath day, would he not get hold of it and lift it out?
12 Or, combien un homme vaut plus qu'une brebis! Par conséquent il est permis de faire une bonneaction le jour du sabbat."	12 Now a man is far more important than a sheep, so it fol ows that it is permitted on the Sabbath day todo good.'
13 Alors il dit à l'homme: "Etends ta main." Il l'étendit et elle fut remise en état, saine commel'autre.	13 Then he said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out and his hand was restored, assound as the other one.
14 Etant sortis, les Pharisiens tinrent conseil contre lui, en vue de le perdre.	14 At this the Pharisees went out and began to plot against him, discussing how to destroy him.
15 L'ayant su, Jésus se retira de là. Beaucoup le suivirent et il les guérit tous	15 Jesus knew this and withdrew from the district. Many fol owed him and he cured them al
16 et il leur enjoignit de ne pas le faire connaître,	16 but warned them not to make him known.
17 pour que s'accomplit l'oracle d'Isaïe le prophète:	17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:
18 Voici mon serviteur que j'ai choisi, mon Bien-Aimé qui a toute ma faveur. Je placerai sur luimon Esprit et il annoncera le Droit aux nations.	18 Look! My servant whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul delights, I wil send my Spiritupon him, and he wil present judgement to the nations;
19 Il ne fera point de querelles ni de cris et nul n'entendra sa voix sur les grands chemins.	19 he wil not brawl or cry out, his voice is not heard in the streets,
20 Le roseau froissé, il ne le brisera pas, et la mèche fumante, il ne l'éteindra pas, jusqu'à ce qu'il aitmené le Droit au triomphe:	20 he wil not break the crushed reed, or snuff the faltering wick,
21 en son nom les nations mettront leur espérance.	21 until he has made judgement victorious; in him the nations will put their hope.
22 Alors on lui présenta un démoniaque aveugle et muet; et il le guérit, si bien que le muet pouvaitparler et voir.	22 Then they brought to him a blind and dumb demoniac; and he cured him, so that the dumb man couldspeak and see.
23 Frappées de stupeur, toutes les foules disaient: "Celui-là n'est-il pas le Fils de David?"	23 Al the people were astounded and said, 'Can this be the son of David?'
24 Mais les Pharisiens, entendant cela, dirent: "Celui-là n'expulse les démons que par Béelzéboul,le prince des démons."	24 But when the Pharisees heard this they said, 'The man drives out devils only through Beelzebul, thechief of the devils.'
25 Connaissant leurs sentiments, il leur dit: "Tout royaume divisé contre lui-même court à la ruine;et nulle ville, nulle maison, divisée contre elle-même, ne saurait se maintenir.	25 Knowing what was in their minds he said to them, 'Every kingdom divided against itself is heading forruin; and no town, no household divided against itself can last.
26 Or, si Satan expulse Satan, il s'est divisé contre lui-même: dès lors, comment son royaume semaintiendra-t-il?	26 Now if Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself; so how can his kingdom last?
27 Et si moi, c'est par Béelzéboul que j'expulse les démons, par qui vos adeptes les expulsent-ils?Aussi seront-ils eux-mêmes vos juges.	27 And if it is through Beelzebul that I drive devils out, through whom do your own experts drive themout? They shal be your judges, then.
28 Mais si c'est par l'Esprit de Dieu que j'expulse les démons, c'est donc que le Royaume de Dieuest arrivé jusqu'à vous.	28 But if it is through the Spirit of God that I drive out devils, then be sure that the kingdom of God hascaught you unawares.
29 "Ou encore, comment quelqu'un peut-il pénétrer dans la maison d'un homme fort et s'emparer deses affaires, s'il n'a d'abord ligoté cet homme fort? Et alors il pillera sa maison.	29 'Or again, how can anyone make his way into a strong man's house and plunder his property unlesshe has first tied up the strong man? Only then can he plunder his house.
30 "Qui n'est pas avec moi est contre moi, et qui n'amasse pas avec moi dissipe.	30 'Anyone who is not with me is against me, and anyone who does not gather in with me throws away.
31 Aussi je vous le dis, tout péché et blasphème sera remis aux hommes, mais le blasphème contrel'Esprit ne sera pas remis.	31 And so I tel you, every human sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spiritwil not be forgiven.
32 Et quiconque aura dit une parole contre le Fils de l'homme, cela lui sera remis; mais quiconqueaura parlé contre l'Esprit Saint, cela ne lui sera remis ni en ce monde ni dans l'autre.	32 And anyone who says a word against the Son of man wil be forgiven; but no one who speaks againstthe Holy Spirit wil be forgiven either in this world or in the next.
33 "Prenez un arbre bon: son fruit sera bon; prenez un arbre gâté: son fruit sera gâté. Car c'est aufruit qu'on reconnaît l'arbre.	33 'Make a tree sound and its fruit wil be sound; make a tree rotten and its fruit will be rotten. For thetree can be told by its fruit.
34 Engeance de vipères, comment pourriez-vous tenir un bon langage, alors que vous êtesmauvais? Car c'est du trop-plein du coeur que la bouche parle.	34 You brood of vipers, how can your speech be good when you are evil? For words flow out of what fil sthe heart.
35 L'homme bon, de son bon trésor tire de bonnes choses; et l'homme mauvais, de son mauvaistrésor en tire de mauvaises.	35 Good people draw good things from their store of goodness; bad people draw bad things from theirstore of badness.
36 Or je vous le dis: de toute parole sans fondement que les hommes auront proférée, ils rendrontcompte au Jour du Jugement.	36 So I tel you this, that for every unfounded word people utter they wil answer on Judgement Day,
37 Car c'est d'après tes paroles que tu seras justifié et c'est d'après tes paroles que tu serascondamné."	37 since it is by your words you wil be justified, and by your words condemned.'
38 Alors quelques-uns des scribes et des Pharisiens prirent la parole et lui dirent: "Maître, nousdésirons que tu nous fasses voir un signe."	38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees spoke up. 'Master,' they said, 'we should like to see a sign from you.'
39 Il leur répondit: "Génération mauvaise et adultère! elle réclame un signe, et de signe, il ne luisera donné que le signe du prophète Jonas.	39 He replied, 'It is an evil and unfaithful generation that asks for a sign! The only sign it wil be given isthe sign of the prophet Jonah.
40 De même, en effet, que Jonas fut dans le ventre du monstre marin durant trois jours et troisnuits, de même le Fils de l'homme sera dans le sein de la terre durant trois jours et trois nuits.	40 For as Jonah remained in the belly of the sea-monster for three days and three nights, so wil the Sonof man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.
41 Les hommes de Ninive se dresseront lors du Jugement avec cette génération et ils lacondamneront, car ils se repentirent à la proclamation de Jonas, et il y a ici plus que Jonas!	41 On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and they wil be itscondemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and look, there is something greater than Jonahhere.
42 La reine du Midi se lèvera lors du Jugement avec cette génération et elle la condamnera, car ellevint des extrémités de la terre pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon, et il y a ici plus que Salomon!	42 On Judgement Day the Queen of the South wil appear against this generation and be itscondemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look, there issomething greater than Solomon here.
43 Lorsque l'esprit impur est sorti de l'homme, il erre par des lieux arides en quête de repos, et iln'en trouve pas.	43 'When an unclean spirit goes out of someone it wanders through waterless country looking for aplace to rest, and cannot find one.
44 Alors il dit: Je vais retourner dans ma demeure, d'où je suis sorti. Etant venu, il la trouve libre,balayée, bien en ordre.	44 Then it says, "I wil return to the home I came from." But on arrival, finding it unoccupied, swept andtidied,
45 Alors il s'en va prendre avec lui sept autres esprits plus mauvais que lui; ils reviennent et yhabitent. Et l'état final de cet homme devient pire que le premier. Ainsi en sera-t-il également de cette générationmauvaise."	45 it then goes off and col ects seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and set uphouse there, and so that person ends up worse off than before. That is what will happen to this wickedgeneration.'
46 Comme il parlait encore aux foules, voici que sa mère et ses frères se tenaient dehors, cherchantà lui parler.	46 He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standingoutside and were anxious to have a word with him.
	47 still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside andwere anxious to have a word with him.
48 A celui qui l'en informait Jésus répondit: "Qui est ma mère et qui sont mes frères?"	48 But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, 'Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?'
49 Et tendant sa main vers ses disciples, il dit: "Voici ma mère et mes frères.	49 And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers.
50 Car quiconque fait la volonté de mon Père qui est aux cieux, celui-là m'est un frère et une soeuret une mère."	50 Anyone who does the wil of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'
