| 1 Oracle sur Babylone, vu par Isaïe, fils d'Amoç. | 1 The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. |
| 2 Sur un mont chauve, levez un signal, forcez la voix pour eux, agitez la main pour qu'ils viennent auxportes des Nobles. | 2 On a bare hill raise a signal, cry aloud to them; wave the hand for them to enter the gates of the nobles. |
| 3 Moi, j'ai donné des ordres à mes saints guerriers, j'ai même appelé mes héros pour servir ma colère,mes fiers triomphateurs. | 3 I myself have commanded my consecrated ones, have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger, my proudly exulting ones. |
| 4 Bruit de foule sur les montagnes, comme un peuple immense, bruit d'un vacarme de royaumes, denations rassemblées: c'est Yahvé Sabaot qui passe en revue l'armée pour le combat. | 4 Hark, a tumult on the mountains as of a great multitude! Hark, an uproar of kingdoms, of nations gathering together! The LORD of hosts is mustering a host for battle. |
| 5 Ils viennent d'un pays lointain, des extrémités du ciel, Yahvé et les instruments de sa colère, pourravager tout le pays. | 5 They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the LORD and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole earth. |
| 6 Hurlez car il est proche, le jour de Yahvé, il arrive comme une dévastation de Shaddaï. | 6 Wail, for the day of the LORD is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come! |
| 7 C'est pourquoi toutes les mains sont débiles, tous les hommes perdent coeur; | 7 Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every man's heart will melt, |
| 8 ils sont bouleversés, pris de convulsions et de douleurs; ils se tordent comme la femme qui accouche,ils se regardent avec stupeur, le visage en feu. | 8 and they will be dismayed. Pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in travail. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame. |
| 9 Voici que vient le jour de Yahvé, implacable, l'emportement et l'ardente colère, pour réduire le paysen ruines, et en exterminer les pécheurs. | 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the earth a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it. |
| 10 Car au ciel, les étoiles et Orion ne diffuseront plus leur lumière. Le soleil s'est obscurci dès sonlever, la lune ne fait plus rayonner sa lumière. | 10 For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising and the moon will not shed its light. |
| 11 Je vais châtier l'univers de sa méchanceté et les méchants de leur faute; mettre fin à l'arrogance dessuperbes, humilier l'orgueil des tyrans. | 11 I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pride of the arrogant, and lay low the haughtiness of the ruthless. |
| 12 Je rendrai les hommes plus rares que l'or fin, les mortels plus rares que l'or d'Ophir. | 12 I will make men more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir. |
| 13 C'est pourquoi je ferai frémir les cieux, et la terre tremblera sur ses bases, sous l'emportement deYahvé Sabaot, le jour où s'allumera sa colère. | 13 Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the LORD of hosts in the day of his fierce anger. |
| 14 Alors comme une gazelle pourchassée, comme des moutons que personne ne rassemble, chacun s'enretournera vers son peuple, chacun s'enfuira dans son pays. | 14 And like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, every man will turn to his own people, and every man will flee to his own land. |
| 15 Tous ceux qu'on trouvera seront transpercés, tous ceux qu'on prendra tomberont par l'épée. | 15 Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword. |
| 16 Leurs jeunes enfants seront écrasés sous leurs yeux, leurs maisons saccagées, leurs femmes violées. | 16 Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished. |
| 17 Voici que je suscite contre eux les Mèdes qui ne font point cas de l'argent, et qui n'apprécient pasl'or. | 17 Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold. |
| 18 Les arcs anéantiront leurs jeunes gens, on n'aura pas pitié du fruit de leur sein, leur oeil sera sanscompassion pour les enfants. | 18 Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children. |
| 19 Et Babylone, la perle des royaumes, le superbe joyau des Chaldéens, sera comme Sodome etGomorrhe, dévastées par Dieu. | 19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pride of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. |
| 20 Elle ne sera plus jamais habitée ni peuplée, de génération en génération. L'Arabe n'y campera plus,et les bergers n'y parqueront plus les troupeaux. | 20 It will never be inhabited or dwelt in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there, no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there. |
| 21 Ce sera le repaire des bêtes du désert, les hiboux empliront leurs maisons, les autruches y habiteront,les boucs y danseront. | 21 But wild beasts will lie down there, and its houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will dwell, and there satyrs will dance. |
| 22 Les hyènes hurleront dans ses tours, les chacals dans ses palais d'agrément, car son temps est procheet ses jours ne tarderont pas. | 22 Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant palaces; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged. |
