Giobbe 35

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 ED Elihu proseguì il suo ragionamento, e disse:	1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:
2 Hai tu stimato che ciò convenga alla ragione, Della quale tu hai detto: La mia giustizia è da Dio,	2 Do you think you can prove yourself upright and establish your uprightness before God
3 Di dire: Che mi gioverà ella? Che profitto ne avrò più che del mio peccato?	3 by daring to say to him, 'What does it matter to you, or how does it benefit me, whether I have sinnedor not?'
4 Io ti risponderò, Ed a’ tuoi compagni teco.	4 Very well, I shal tel you and your friends as wel .
5 Riguarda i cieli, e vedi; E mira le nuvole, quanto sono più alte di te.	5 Take a look at the skies and see, observe how high the clouds are above you.
6 Se tu pecchi, che cosa opererai tu contro a lui? E se i tuoi misfatti son moltiplicati, che gli farai tu?	6 If you sin, how can you affect him? If you heap up crimes, what effect has it on him?
7 Se tu sei giusto, che cosa gli darai? Ovvero che prenderà egli dalla tua mano?	7 If you are upright, what do you give him, what benefit does he receive at your hands?
8 Come la tua malvagità può nuocer solo ad un uomo simile a te, Così anche la tua giustizia non può giovare se non ad un figliuolo d’uomo	8 Your wickedness affects only your fel ows, your uprightness, other human beings.
9 Gli oppressati gridano per la grandezza dell’oppressione, E dànno alte strida per la violenza de’ grandi;	9 They too groan under the weight of oppression, they cry for help under the tyranny of the mighty,
10 Ma niuno dice: Ove è Dio, mio fattore, Il quale dà materia di cantar di notte?	10 but none of them thinks of saying, 'Where is God, my Maker, who makes glad songs ring out at night,
11 Il qual ci ammaestra più che le bestie della terra, E ci rende savi più che gli uccelli del cielo?	11 who has made us more intel igent than wild animals wiser than birds in the sky?'
12 Quivi adunque gridano, ed egli non li esaudisce, Per la superbia de’ malvagi.	12 Cry they may, but get no answer, to be spared from the arrogance of the wicked.
13 Certamente Iddio non esaudisce la vanità, E l’Onnipotente non la riguarda	13 Of course God does not listen to trivialities, Shaddai pays no attention to them.
14 Quanto meno esaudirà egli te, che dici che tu nol riguardi? Giudicati nel suo cospetto, e poi aspettalo.	14 And how much less when you say, 'I cannot see him, my case is open and I am waiting for him.'
15 Certo ora quello che l’ira sua ti ha imposto di castigo è come nulla; Ed egli non ha preso conoscenza della moltitudine de’ tuoi peccati molto innanzi.	15 Or, 'His anger never punishes, he does not seem aware of human rebel ion.'
16 Giobbe adunque indarno apre la sua bocca, Ed accumula parole senza conoscimento	16 Hence, when Job speaks, he talks nonsense, ignorantly babbling on and on.
