| 1 (Et) Les enfants d'Israël recommencèrent encore à faire le mal aux yeux du Seigneur après la mort d'Aod ; | 1 And the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, when Ehud was dead. |
| 2 et le Seigneur les livra entre les mains de Jabin, roi des Chananéens, qui régna dans Asor. Le chef (général) de son armée se nommait Sisara, et il demeurait à Haroseth des Gentils (nations). | 2 And the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor; the captain of whose host was Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles. |
| 3 Les enfants d'Israël crièrent donc au Seigneur. Car, Jabin ayant neuf cents chars armés de faux, les avait violemment opprimés pendant vingt ans. | 3 And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel. |
| 4 Or il y avait là une prophétesse nommée Debbora, femme de Lapidoth, laquelle jugeait le peuple en ce temps-là. | 4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. |
| 5 Elle s'asseyait sous un palmier qu'on avait appelé de son nom, entre Rama et Béthel, sur la montagne d'Ephraïm ; et les enfants d'Israël venaient à elle pour tous leurs différends (jugements). | 5 And she dwelt under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in mount Ephraim: and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. |
| 6 Elle envoya donc chercher Barac, fils d'Abinoëm, de Cédès de Nephtali ; et elle lui dit : Le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël te donne cet ordre : Va et mène l'armée sur la montagne de Thabor. Prends avec toi dix mille combattants des enfants de Nephtali et des enfants de Zabulon. | 6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh-naphtali, and said unto him, Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun? |
| 7 Quand tu seras au torrent de Cison, je t'amènerai Sisara, chef de l'armée de Jabin, avec ses chars et toutes ses troupes (sa multitude), et je te les livrerai entre les mains. | 7 And I will draw unto thee to the river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and his multitude; and I will deliver him into thine hand. |
| 8 Barac lui répondit : Si vous venez avec moi, j'irai ; si vous ne voulez point venir avec moi, je n'irai pas. | 8 And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go. |
| 9 Debbora lui dit : J'irai (assurément) avec toi ; mais la victoire pour cette fois ne te sera point attribuée, parce que Sisara sera livré entre les mains d'une femme. Debbora partit donc (aussitôt), et s'en alla à Cédès avec Barac. | 9 And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh. |
| 10 Celui-ci, ayant fait venir les hommes de Zabulon et de Nephtali, marcha avec dix mille combattants, et Debbora était avec lui. | 10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh; and he went up with ten thousand men at his feet: and Deborah went up with him. |
| 11 Or Haber le Cinéen s'était séparé depuis quelque temps des Cinéens ses frères, fils d'Hobab, allié de Moïse, et il avait dressé ses tentes (tabernacles) jusqu'à la vallée appelée Sennim, et il était près de Cédès. | 11 Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in law of Moses, had severed himself from the Kenites, and pitched his tent unto the plain of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh. |
| 12 Alors Sisara fut averti que Barac, fils d'Abinoëm, avait gravi la montagne du Thabor. | 12 And they shewed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor. |
| 13 Et il fit assembler ses neuf cents chars armés de faux, et fit marcher toute son armée de Haroseth des Gentils (nations) au torrent de Cison. | 13 And Sisera gathered together all his chariots, even nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles unto the river of Kishon. |
| 14 Alors Debbora dit à Barac : Lève-toi ; car voici le jour où le Seigneur a livré Sisara entre tes mains ; c'est le Seigneur lui-même qui te conduit. Barac descendit donc du mont Thabor, et ses dix mille combattants avec lui. | 14 And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him. |
| 15 En même temps le Seigneur frappa de terreur Sisara, tous ses chars et toutes ses troupes (sa multitude), et les fit passer au fil de l'épée aux yeux de Barac ; de sorte que Sisara, sautant à bas de son char, s'enfuit à pied. | 15 And the LORD discomfited Sisera, and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera lighted down off his chariot, and fled away on his feet. |
| 16 Barac poursuivit les chars qui s'enfuyaient et toutes les troupes jusqu'à Haroseth des Gentils (nations), et toute cette multitude si nombreuse d'ennemis fut taillée en pièces sans qu'il en restât un seul. | 16 But Barak pursued after the chariots, and after the host, unto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword; and there was not a man left. |
| 17 Or Sisara, dans sa fuite, vint à la tente de Jahel, femme du Cinéen Haber. Car il y avait alors la paix entre Jabin, roi d'Asor, et la maison d'Haber le Cinéen. | 17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite: for there was peace between Jabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite. |
| 18 Jahel, étant donc sortie au-devant de Sisara, lui dit : Entre chez moi, mon seigneur ; entre, ne crains point. Il entra donc dans la tente, et elle le couvrit d'un manteau. | 18 And Jael went out to meet Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And when he had turned in unto her into the tent, she covered him with a mantle. |
| 19 Et Sisara lui dit : Donnez-moi, je vous prie, un peu d'eau, parce que j'ai une soif extrême. Elle lui apporta une outre pleine de lait, et elle lui en donna à boire, et remit le manteau sur lui. | 19 And he said unto her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she opened a bottle of milk, and gave him drink, and covered him. |
| 20 Alors Sisara lui dit : Tenez-vous à l'entrée de la tente (votre tabernacle) ; et si quelqu'un vous interroge et vous dit : N'y a-t-il personne ici ? vous lui répondrez : Il n'y a personne. | 20 Again he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and inquire of thee, and say, Is there any man here? that thou shalt say, No. |
| 21 Jahel, femme d'Haber, prit donc un des pieux de la tente (tabernacle) ; elle prit aussi un marteau, entra doucement sans faire aucun bruit, et, ayant mis le pieu sur la tempe de Sisara, elle le frappa avec son marteau, et lui en transperça le cerveau, l'enfonçant jusqu'en terre ; et Sisara, passant du sommeil à la mort, expira. | 21 Then Jael Heber's wife took a nail of the tent, and took an hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the nail into his temples, and fastened it into the ground: for he was fast asleep and weary. So he died. |
| 22 Et voici que Barac arriva, poursuivant Sisara ; et Jahel, étant sortie au devant de lui, lui dit : Viens, je te montrerai l'homme que tu cherches. Il entra chez elle, et il vit Sisara étendu mort, et le pieu enfoncé dans sa tempe. | 22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nail was in his temples. |
| 23 Dieu humilia donc en ce jour-là Jabin, roi de Chanaan, devant les enfants d'Israël, | 23 So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel. |
| 24 qui, croissant tous les jours en vigueur, opprimèrent d'une main forte Jabin, roi de Chanaan, jusqu'à ce qu'il fût entièrement ruiné. | 24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered, and prevailed against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king of Canaan. |
