| 1 Après avoir, à bien des reprises et de bien des manières (dernièrement), parlé autrefois à nos pères par les prophètes, Dieu, | 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, |
| 2 dans ces derniers temps (en ces jours), nous a parlé par le Fils, qu'il a établi héritier de toutes choses, par lequel aussi il a fait les mondes (siècles) ; | 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; |
| 3 et qui, étant la splendeur de sa gloire, et l'empreinte de sa substance, et soutenant toutes choses par la parole de sa puissance, après avoir opéré la purification des péchés, s'est assis à la droite de la Majesté, au plus haut des cieux ; | 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; |
| 4 devenu d'autant supérieur aux anges, qu'il a hérité d'un nom plus excellent que le leur. | 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. |
| 5 Car auquel des anges a-t-il jamais dit : Tu es mon Fils, je t'ai engendré aujourd'hui ? Et encore : Je serai son Père et il sera mon Fils ? | 5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? |
| 6 Et de nouveau, lorsqu'il introduit son Premier-né dans le monde, il dit : Que tous les anges de Dieu l'adorent. | 6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. |
| 7 A la vérité, quant aux anges, il dit : Celui qui fait de ses anges des vents, et de ses ministres une flamme de feu ; | 7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. |
| 8 mais, quant au Fils : Ton trône, ô Dieu, est dans les siècles des siècles ; le sceptre de ton règne (empire) est un sceptre d'équité. | 8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. |
| 9 Tu as aimé la justice, et tu as haï l'injustice ; c'est pourquoi, ô Dieu, ton Dieu t'a oint d'une huile d'allégresse, de préférence à tes compagnons. | 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. |
| 10 Et encore : C'est vous, Seigneur, qui, au commencement, avez fondé la terre, et les cieux sont l'ouvrage de vos mains. | 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: |
| 11 Ils périront, mais vous demeurerez ; et tous ils vieilliront comme un vêtement, | 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; |
| 12 et vous les changerez comme un manteau, et ils seront changés ; mais vous, vous êtes le même, et vos années ne finiront pas. | 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. |
| 13 Auquel des anges a-t-il jamais dit : Assieds-toi à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis l'escabeau de tes pieds ? | 13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? |
| 14 Ne sont-ils pas tous des esprits qui servent, envoyés pour exercer un ministère en faveur de ceux qui doivent recevoir l'héritage du salut ? | 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? |
