| 1 Il leur disait aussi une parabole, pour leur montrer qu'il faut toujours prier, et ne pas se lasser. | 1 And he spoke also a parable to them, that we ought always to pray, and not to faint, |
| 2 Il y avait, dit-il, dans une ville, un juge qui ne craignait pas Dieu et ne se souciait pas des hommes. | 2 Saying: There was a judge in a certain city, who feared not God, nor regarded man. |
| 3 Il y avait aussi, dans cette ville, une veuve qui venait auprès de lui, disant : Fais-moi justice de mon adversaire. | 3 And there was a certain widow in that city, and she came to him, saying: Avenge me of my adversary. |
| 4 Et il refusait pendant longtemps ; mais ensuite il dit en lui-même : Quoique je ne craigne pas Dieu, et que je ne me soucie pas des hommes, | 4 And he would not for a long time. But afterwards he said within himself: Although I fear not God, nor regard man, |
| 5 néanmoins, parce que cette veuve m'importune, je lui ferai justice, de peur qu'à la fin elle n'en vienne à me frapper. | 5 Yet because this widow is troublesome to me, I will avenge her, lest continually coming she weary me. |
| 6 Le Seigneur ajouta : Entendez ce que dit ce juge d'iniquité. | 6 And the Lord said: Hear what the unjust judge saith. |
| 7 Et Dieu ne ferait pas justice à ses élus, qui crient à lui jour et nuit, et il tarderait à les secourir ? | 7 And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night: and will he have patience in their regard? |
| 8 Je vous le dis, il leur fera promptement justice. Mais lorsque le Fils de l'homme viendra, pensez-vous qu'il trouve (-ra) la foi sur la terre ? | 8 I say to you, that he will quickly revenge them. But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth? |
| 9 Il dit aussi cette parabole à quelques-uns qui se confiaient en eux-mêmes, comme étant justes, et qui méprisaient les autres : | 9 And to some who trusted in themselves as just, and despised others, he spoke also this parable: |
| 10 Deux hommes montèrent au temple pour prier ; l'un était pharisien, et l'autre publicain. | 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray: the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. |
| 11 Le pharisien, se tenant debout, priait ainsi en lui-même : O Dieu, je vous rends grâces de ce que je ne suis pas comme le reste des hommes, qui sont voleurs, injustes, adultères, ni même comme ce publicain. | 11 The Pharisee standing, prayed thus with himself: O God, I give thee thanks that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, as also is this publican. |
| 12 Je jeûne deux fois la semaine, je donne la dîme de tout ce que je possède. | 12 I fast twice in a week: I give tithes of all that I possess. |
| 13 Et le publicain, se tenant éloigné, n'osait pas même lever les yeux au ciel ; mais il frappait sa poitrine, en disant : O Dieu, ayez pitié de moi, qui suis un pécheur. | 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes towards heaven; but struck his breast, saying: O god, be merciful to me a sinner. |
| 14 Je vous le dis, celui-ci descendit dans sa maison justifié, plutôt que l'autre ; car quiconque s'élève sera humilié, et quiconque s'humilie sera élevé. | 14 I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather that the other: because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted. |
| 15 On lui amenait aussi de petits enfants, afin qu'il les touchât ; mais les disciples, voyant cela, les repoussaient. | 15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he might touch them. Which when the disciples saw, they rebuked them. |
| 16 Mais Jésus, les appelant, dit : Laissez venir à moi les petits enfants, et ne les en empêchez pas ; car le royaume de Dieu est à ceux qui leur ressemblent. | 16 But Jesus, calling them together, said: Suffer children to come to me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. |
| 17 En vérité, je vous le dis, quiconque ne recevra pas le royaume de Dieu comme un enfant, n'y entrera pas. | 17 Amen, I say to you: Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a child, shall not enter into it. |
| 18 Un chef de synagogue l'interrogea, en disant : Bon maître, que ferai-je pour posséder la vie éternelle ?line Jésus lui dit : Pourquoi m'appelles-tu bon ? Nul n'est bon, si ce n'est Dieu seul. | 18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying: Good master, what shall I do to possess everlasting life? |
| 19 Jésus lui dit: Pourquoi M'appelles-tu bon? Nul n'est bon, si ce n'est Dieu seul. | 19 And Jesus said to him: Why dost thou call me good? None is good but God alone. |
| 20 Tu connais les commandements : Tu ne tueras pas ; tu ne commettras pas d'adultère ; tu ne déroberas pas ; tu ne porteras pas de faux témoignage ; honore ton père et ta mère. | 20 Thou knowest the commandments: Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not steal: Thou shalt not bear false witness: Honour thy father and mother. |
| 21 Il répondit : J'ai observé toutes ces choses depuis ma jeunesse. | 21 Who said: All these things have I kept from my youth. |
| 22 Ayant entendu cela, Jésus lui dit : Il te manque encore une chose : vends tout ce que tu as, et donne-le aux pauvres, et tu auras un trésor dans le ciel ; puis viens, et suis-moi. | 22 Which when Jesus had heard, he said to him: Yet one thing is wanting to thee: sell all whatever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. |
| 23 Mais lui, ayant entendu ces paroles, fut attristé ; car il était très riche. | 23 He having heard these things, became sorrowful; for he was very rich. |
| 24 Et Jésus, voyant qu'il était devenu triste, dit : Qu'il sera difficile à ceux qui ont des richesses d'entrer dans le royaume de Dieu ! | 24 And Jesus seeing him become sorrowful, said: How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God. |
| 25 Il est plus facile à un chameau de passer par le trou d'une aiguille, qu'à un riche d'entrer dans le royaume de Dieu. | 25 For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. |
| 26 Et ceux qui l'écoutaient dirent : Qui peut donc être sauvé ? | 26 And they that heard it, said: Who then can be saved? |
| 27 Il leur dit : Ce qui est impossible aux hommes est possible à Dieu. | 27 He said to them: The things that are impossible with men, are possible with God. |
| 28 Alors Pierre dit : Voici que nous avons tout quitté, et que nous vous avons suivi. | 28 Then Peter said: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee. |
| 29 Il leur dit : En vérité, je vous le dis, personne ne quittera sa maison, ou ses parents, ou ses frères, ou sa femme, ou ses enfants, pour le royaume de Dieu, | 29 Who said to them: Amen, I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, |
| 30 qu'il ne reçoive beaucoup plus dans le temps présent, et, dans le siècle à venir, la vie éternelle. | 30 Who shall not receive much more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting. |
| 31 Ensuite, Jésus prit à part les douze, et leur dit : Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem, et tout ce que a été écrit par les prophètes au sujet du Fils de l'homme s'accomplira. | 31 Then Jesus took unto him the twelve, and said to them: Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things shall be accomplished which were written by the prophets concerning the Son of man. |
| 32 Car il sera livré aux gentils, et on se moquera de lui, et on le flagellera, et on crachera sur lui ; | 32 For he shall be delivered to the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and scourged, and spit upon: |
| 33 et après qu'on l'aura flagellé, on le fera mourir ; et le troisième jour il ressuscitera. | 33 And after they have scourged him, they will put him to death; and the third day he shall rise again. |
| 34 Mais ils ne comprirent rien à cela ; ce langage leur était caché, et ils ne saisissaient pas ce que était dit. | 34 And they understood none of these things, and this word was hid from them, and they understood not the things that were said. |
| 35 Or il arriva, comme il approchait de Jéricho, qu'un aveugle était assis au bord du chemin, demandant l'aumône. | 35 Now it came to pass, when he drew nigh to Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the way side, begging. |
| 36 Et entendant la foule passer, il demanda ce que c'était. | 36 And when he heard the multitude passing by, he asked what this meant. |
| 37 On lui dit que c'était Jésus de Nazareth qui passait. | 37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. |
| 38 Et il cria, en disant : Jésus, fils de David, ayez pitié de moi. | 38 And he cried out, saying: Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me. |
| 39 Et ceux qui marchaient en avant le reprenaient rudement pour qu'il se tût ; mais il criait encore plus : Fils de David, ayez pitié de moi. | 39 And they that went before, rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried out much more: Son of David, have mercy on me. |
| 40 Alors Jésus, s'arrêtant, ordonna qu'on le lui amenât. Et lorsqu'il se fut approché, il l'interrogea, | 40 And Jesus standing, commanded him to be brought unto him. And when he was come near, he asked him, |
| 41 en disant : Que veux-tu que je te fasse ? Il répondit : Seigneur, que je voie. | 41 Saying: What wilt thou that I do to thee? But he said: Lord, that I may see. |
| 42 Et Jésus lui dit : Vois ; ta foi t'a sauvé. | 42 And Jesus said to him: Receive thy sight: thy faith hath made thee whole. |
| 43 Et aussitôt il vit, et il le suivait, en glorifiant Dieu. Et tout le peuple, ayant vu cela, rendit gloire à Dieu. | 43 And immediately he saw, and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God. |
