| 1 La vingt-troisième année de Joas, fils d'Ochozias, roi de Juda, Joachaz, fils de Jéhu, régna sur Israël dans Samarie, pendant dix-sept ans. | 1 In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned seventeen years. |
| 2 Il fit le mal devant le Seigneur, et il suivit Jéroboam, fils de Nabath, en commettant les péchés dans lesquels il avait fait tomber Israël ; et il ne s'en retira pas. | 2 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from them. |
| 3 Alors la fureur du Seigneur s'alluma contre Israël ; et il les livra tout ce temps-là entre les mains d'Hazaël, roi de Syrie, et entre les mains de Bénadad, fils d'Hazaël (durant tous ses jours). | 3 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he gave them continually into the hand of Hazael king of Syria and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael. |
| 4 Mais (Or) Joachaz implora la face du Seigneur, et le Seigneur l'écouta, parce qu'il vit l'affliction d'Israël, que le roi de Syrie avait réduit à l'extrémité. | 4 Then Jehoahaz besought the LORD, and the LORD hearkened to him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them. |
| 5 Le Seigneur donna donc un sauveur à Israël, et il fut délivré de la main du roi de Syrie, et les enfants d'Israël demeurèrent dans leurs tentes comme auparavant (tabernacles comme hier et avant-hier). | 5 (Therefore the LORD gave Israel a savior, so that they escaped from the hand of the Syrians; and the people of Israel dwelt in their homes as formerly. |
| 6 Néanmoins ils ne se retirèrent pas des péchés de la maison de Jéroboam, qui avait fait pécher Israël, mais ils continuèrent d'y marcher ; car le bois sacré (même) demeura à Samarie. | 6 Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah also remained in Samaria.) |
| 7 (Et) Il n'était resté à Joachaz, de tout son peuple, que cinquante cavaliers, dix char(iot)s, et dix mille hommes de pied. Car le roi de Syrie les avait fait périr, et les avait réduits en poussière, comme celle que l'on foule dans l'aire. | 7 For there was not left to Jehoahaz an army of more than fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing. |
| 8 Le reste des actions de Joachaz, tout ce qu'il a fait, et sa vaillance, est écrit au livre des annales des (jours des actions) rois d'Israël. | 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? |
| 9 Et Joachaz s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli à Samarie ; et Joas, son fils, régna à sa place. | 9 So Jehoahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash his son reigned in his stead. |
| 10 La trente-septième année de Joas, roi de Juda, Joas, fils de Joachaz, régna (sur Israël) dans Samarie pendant seize ans. | 10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and he reigned sixteen years. |
| 11 Il fit le mal devant le Seigneur ; il ne se détourna pas de tous les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabath, qui avait fait pécher Israël, mais il y marcha (toujours). | 11 He also did what was evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which he made Israel to sin, but he walked in them. |
| 12 Le reste des actions de Joas, tout ce qu'il a fait, son courage et la manière dont il combattit contre Amasias, roi de Juda, tout cela est écrit au livre des annales (actions des jours) des rois d'Israël. | 12 Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and the might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? |
| 13 Et Joas s'endormit avec ses pères, et Jéroboam monta sur le trône, après que Joas eut été enseveli dans Samarie avec les rois d'Israël. | 13 So Joash slept with his fathers, and Jeroboam sat upon his throne; and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. |
| 14 Or Elisée était malade de la maladie dont il mourut, et Joas, roi d'Israël, vint le voir ; et il pleurait devant lui, en disant : Mon père, mon père ; (vous) le char d'Israël et celui qui le conduit. | 14 Now when Elisha had fallen sick with the illness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to him, and wept before him, crying, "My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!" |
| 15 Elisée lui dit : Apportez(-moi) un arc et des flèches. Et le roi d'Israël lui ayant apporté un arc et des flèches, | 15 And Elisha said to him, "Take a bow and arrows"; so he took a bow and arrows. |
| 16 Elisée lui dit : Mettez votre main sur cet arc. Et lorsqu'il eut mis les mains sur l'arc, Elisée plaça ses mains sur celles du roi, | 16 Then he said to the king of Israel, "Draw the bow"; and he drew it. And Elisha laid his hands upon the king's hands. |
| 17 et lui dit : Ouvrez la fenêtre qui regarde l'orient. Le roi l'ayant ouverte, Elisée lui dit : Lancez une flèche. Et lorsqu'il l'eut lancée, Elisée dit : C'est la flèche du salut du Seigneur, c'est la flèche du salut contre la Syrie ; vous frapperez la Syrie à Aphec, jusqu'à ce que vous l'exterminiez. | 17 And he said, "Open the window eastward"; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, "Shoot"; and he shot. And he said, "The LORD's arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Syria! For you shall fight the Syrians in Aphek until you have made an end of them." |
| 18 Il dit encore : Prenez des flèches. Le roi en ayant pris, Elisée lui dit : Frappez la terre avec vos flèches (un dard). Il la frappa trois fois, et il s'arrêta. | 18 And he said, "Take the arrows"; and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground with them"; and he struck three times, and stopped. |
| 19 Et l'homme de Dieu s'irrita contre lui, et lui dit : Si vous aviez frappé la terre cinq, six ou sept fois, vous auriez battu la Syrie jusqu'à l'exterminer entièrement ; mais maintenant vous la battrez (frapperez) trois fois. | 19 Then the man of God was angry with him, and said, "You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck down Syria until you had made an end of it, but now you will strike down Syria only three times." |
| 20 Elisée mourut donc et fut enseveli. Cette même année il vint des voleurs de Moab sur les terres d'Israël. | 20 So Elisha died, and they buried him. Now bands of Moabites used to invade the land in the spring of the year. |
| 21 Et il arriva que quelques hommes, enterrant un mort, virent ces voleurs, et jetèrent le cadavre dans le sépulcre d'Elisée. Dès que le corps eut touché les ossements d'Elisée, cet homme ressuscita et se leva sur ses pieds. | 21 And as a man was being buried, lo, a marauding band was seen and the man was cast into the grave of Elisha; and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood on his feet. |
| 22 Hazaël, roi de Syrie, affligea donc Israël pendant tout le règne de Joachaz ; | 22 Now Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. |
| 23 et le Seigneur eut pitié d'eux, et il revint à eux à cause de l'alliance qu'il avait faite avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob. Il ne voulut pas les perdre, ni les rejeter entièrement, jusqu'au temps actuel (présent). | 23 But the LORD was gracious to them and had compassion on them, and he turned toward them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them; nor has he cast them from his presence until now. |
| 24 Et Hazaël, roi de Syrie, mourut, et Bénadad son fils régna à sa place. | 24 When Hazael king of Syria died, Ben-hadad his son became king in his stead. |
| 25 Mais Joas, fils de Joachaz, reprit d'entre les mains de Bénadad, fils d'Hazaël, les villes qu'Hazaël avait prises à son père pendant la guerre. Joas le battit trois fois, et il rendit les villes à Israël. | 25 Then Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again from Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken from Jehoahaz his father in war. Three times Joash defeated him and recovered the cities of Israel. |
