| 3 Et tous allaient se faire enregistrer, chacun dans sa ville. | 3 And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city. |
| 4 Joseph aussi monta de Nazareth, ville de Galilée, en Judée, dans la ville de David, appelée Bethléem, parce qu'il était de la maison et de la famille de David, | 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, |
| 5 pour se faire enregistrer avec Marie son Epouse, qui était enceinte. | 5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. |
| 6 Or il arriva, pendant qu'ils étaient là, que les jours où Elle devait enfanter furent accomplis. | 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. |
| 7 Et Elle enfanta Son Fils premier-né, et Elle L'enveloppa de langes, et Le coucha dans une crèche, parce qu'il n'y avait pas de place pour eux dans l'hôtellerie. | 7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. |
| 8 Et il y avait, dans la même contrée, des bergers qui passaient les veilles de la nuit à la garde de leur troupeau. | 8 And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. |
| 9 Et voici qu'un Ange du Seigneur leur apparut, et qu'une lumière divine resplendit autour d'eux; et ils furent saisis d'une grande crainte. | 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. |
| 10 Et l'Ange leur dit: Ne craignez point; car voici que je vous annonce une grande joie qui sera pour tout le peuple: | 10 And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; |
| 11 c'est qu'il vous est né aujourd'hui, dans la ville de David, un Sauveur, qui est le Christ, le Seigneur. | 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. |
| 12 Et vous Le reconnaïtrez à ce signe: Vous trouverez un Enfant enveloppé de langes, et couché dans une crèche. | 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." |
| 13 Au même instant, il se joignit à l'Ange une troupe de l'armée céleste, louant Dieu, et disant: | 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, |
| 14 Gloire à Dieu au plus haut des Cieux, et, sur la terre, paix aux hommes de bonne volonté. | 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!" |
| 15 Et il arriva que, lorsque les Anges les eurent quittés pour retourner dans le Ciel, les bergers se disaient l'un à l'autre: Passons jusqu'à Bethléem, et voyons ce qui est arrivé, ce que le Seigneur nous a fait connaître. | 15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." |
| 16 Et ils y allèrent en grande hâte, et ils trouvèrent Marie et Joseph, et l'Enfant couché dans une crèche. | 16 And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. |
| 17 Et en Le voyant, ils reconnurent la vérité de ce qui leur avait été dit au sujet de cet Enfant. | 17 And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; |
| 18 Et tous ceux qui l'entendirent admirèrent ce qui leur avait été raconté par les bergers. | 18 and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. |
| 19 Or Marie conservait toutes ces choses, les repassant dans Son coeur. | 19 But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. |
| 20 Et les bergers s'en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de tout ce qu'ils avaient entendu et vu, selon ce qu'il leur avait été dit. | 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. |
| 21 Le huitième pour, auquel l'Enfant devait être circoncis, étant arrivé, on Lui donna le nom de Jésus, que l'Ange avait indiqué avant qu'Il fût conçu dans le sein de Sa Mère. | 21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. |
| 22 Quand les jours de la purification de Marie furent accomplis, selon la loi de Moïse, ils Le portèrent à Jérusalem, pour Le présenter au Seigneur, | 22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord |
| 23 selon qu'il est prescrit dans la loi du Seigneur: Tout enfant mâle premier-né sera consacrè au Seigneur; | 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord") |
| 24 et pour offrir en sacrifice, selon qu'il est prescrit dans la loi du Seigneur, deux tourterelles, ou deux petits de colombes. | 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, "a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons." |
| 25 Et voici qu'il y avait à Jérusalem un homme appelé Siméon, et cet homme était juste et craignant Dieu, et il attendait la consolation d'Israël, et l'Esprit-Saint était en lui. | 25 Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. |
| 26 Et il lui avait été révélé par l'Esprit-Saint qu'il ne verrait pas la mort avant d'avoir vu le Christ du Seigneur. | 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. |
| 27 Il vint au temple, poussé par l'Esprit de Dieu. Et comme les parents de l'Enfant Jésus L'apportaient, afin d'accomplir pour Lui ce que la loi ordonnait, | 27 And inspired by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law, |
| 28 il Le prit entre ses bras, et bénit Dieu, et dit: | 28 he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, |
| 29 Maintenant, Seigneur, vous laisserez Votre serviteur s'en aller en paix, selon Votre parole, | 29 "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; |
| 30 puisque mes yeux ont vu le salut qui vient de Vous, | 30 for mine eyes have seen thy salvation |
| 31 que Vous avez préparé à la face de tous les peuples: | 31 which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples, |
| 32 lumiére pour éclairer les nations, et gloire d'Israël Votre peuple. | 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to thy people Israel." |
| 33 Son père et Sa Mère étaient dans l'admiration des choses qu'on disait de Lui. | 33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; |
| 34 Et Siméon les bénit, et dit à Marie Sa Mère: Voici que cet Enfant est établi pour la ruine et pour la résurrection d'un grand nombre en Israël, et comme un signe qui excitera la contradiction, | 34 and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against |
| 35 et, à Vous-même, un glaive Vous percera l'âme, afin que les pensées de coeurs nombreux soient dévoilées. | 35 (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed." |
| 36 Il y avait aussi une prophétesse, Anne, fille de Phanuel, de la tribu d'Aser; elle était très avancée en âge, et elle avait vécu sept ans avec son mari depuis sa virginité. | 36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanu-el, of the tribe of Asher; she was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years from her virginity, |
| 37 Elle était veuve alors, et âgée de quatre-vingt-quatre ans; elle ne s'éloignait pas du temple, servant Dieu jour et nuit dans les jeûnes et les prières. | 37 and as a widow till she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. |
| 38 Elle aussi, étant survenue à cette même heure, elle louait le Seigneur, et parlait de Lui à tous ceux qui attendaient la rédemption d'Israël. | 38 And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. |
| 39 Après qu'ils eurent tout accompli selon la loi du Seigneur, ils retournèrent en Galilée, à Nazareth, leur ville. | 39 And when they had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. |
| 40 Cependant l'Enfant croissait et Se fortifiait, rempli de sagesse, et la grâce de Dieu était en Lui. | 40 And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him. |
| 41 Ses parents allaient tous les ans à Jérusalem, au jour solennel de la Pâque. | 41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover. |
| 42 Et lorsqu'Il fut âgé de douze ans, ils montèrent à Jérusalem, selon la coutume de la fête; | 42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up according to custom; |
| 43 puis, les jours de la fête étant passés, lorsqu'ils s'en retournèrent, l'Enfant Jésus resta à Jérusalem, et Ses parents ne s'en aperçurent pas. | 43 and when the feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents did not know it, |
| 44 Et pensant qu'Il était avec ceux de leur compagnie, ils marchèrent durant un jour, et ils Le cherchaient parmi leurs parents et leurs connaissances. | 44 but supposing him to be in the company they went a day's journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances; |
| 45 Mais ne Le trouvant pas, ils revinrent à Jérusalem, en Le cherchant. | 45 and when they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking him. |
| 46 Et il arriva qu'après trois jours ils Le trouvèrent dans le temple, assis au milieu des docteurs, les écoutant et les interrogeant. | 46 After three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions; |
| 47 Et tous ceux qui L'entendaient étaient ravis de Sa sagesse et de Ses réponses. | 47 and all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. |
| 48 En Le voyant, ils furent étonnés. Et Sa Mère Lui dit: Mon Fils, pourquoi as-Tu agi ainsi avec nous? Voici que Ton père et Moi nous Te cherchions, tout affligés. | 48 And when they saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been looking for you anxiously." |
| 49 Il leur dit: Pourquoi Me cherchiez-vous? Ne saviez-vous pas qu'il faut que Je sois aux affaires de Mon Père? | 49 And he said to them, "How is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?" |
| 50 Mais ils ne comprirent pas ce qu'Il leur disait. | 50 And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. |
| 51 Et Il descendit avec eux, et vint à Nazareth; et Il leur était soumis. Sa Mère conservait toutes ces choses dans Son coeur. | 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. |
| 52 Et Jésus croissait en sagesse, et en âge, et en grâce, devant Dieu et devant les hommes. | 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man. |
