1 Bildad de Chouah prit la parole et dit:	1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 Jusqu’à quand vas-tu prolonger ce discours, et ces paroles, comme un vent qui n’en finit pas?	2 How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind?
3 Dieu est-il capable de tourner la justice? Le Tout-Puissant fausserait-il le droit?	3 Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice?
4 Si tes fils ont péché contre lui, il les a fait payer pour leurs fautes.	4 If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;
5 Mais si toi tu as recours à Dieu, si tu implores le Tout-Puissant,	5 If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty;
6 si toi, tu es pur et droit, aussitôt il prendra soin de toi pour te mettre en la demeure que mérite ta droiture.	6 If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.
7 Le passé te semblera peu de chose tant l’avenir sera meilleur.	7 Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.
8 Demande à l’ancienne génération, et remonte à l’expérience de leurs pères.	8 For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers:
9 Car nous sommes nés d’hier et ne savons guère, nos jours passent sur terre comme une ombre.	9 (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:)
10 Mais eux peuvent t’instruire et te parler, et ces quelques mots te diront ce qu’ils sentent:	10 Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?
11 “Le papyrus va-t-il pousser hors des marais? Le roseau se développera-t-il sans eau?	11 Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
12 Même vert, avant qu’on le coupe avant toute autre plante il se déssèche”.	12 Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb.
13 C’est ainsi que termine celui qui oublie Dieu, et que se perdent les espoirs de l’impie.	13 So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:
14 Sa confiance s’accrochait à un fil, il faisait fond sur une toile d’araignée.	14 Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.
15 Il s’appuie sur sa maison, et elle cède, il s’y accroche: elle s’écroule.	15 He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.
16 Il était plein de vigueur au soleil et couvrait le jardin de ses jeunes pousses:	16 He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden.
17 ses racines serpentaient sur la pente, elles s’accrochaient entre les roches.	17 His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones.
18 À peine l’as-tu arraché de sa place, elle le renie: “Je ne t’ai jamais vu!”	18 If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee.
19 Le voilà pourrissant sur le chemin: un autre bientôt est sorti du sol.	19 Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow.
20 Non! Dieu ne méprise pas celui qui est parfait, pas plus qu’il ne soutient ceux qui sont malfaisants.	20 Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:
21 Il remplira encore ta bouche de rires, et mettra sur tes lèvres les cris de joie.	21 Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing.
22 Tes ennemis seront couverts de honte, et l’on ne verra plus la demeure des méchants.	22 They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
