Renowned in Judah is God, whose name is great in Israel. | 2 his tent is pitched in Salem, his dwel ing is in Zion; |
On Salem is God's tent, a shelter on Zion. | 3 there he has broken the lightning-flashes of the bow, shield and sword and war.Pause |
There the flashing arrows were shattered, shield, sword, and weapons of war. Selah | 4 Radiant you are, and renowned for the mountains of booty |
Terrible and awesome are you, stronger than the ancient mountains. | 5 taken from them. Heroes are now sleeping their last sleep, the warriors' arms have failed them; |
Despoiled are the bold warriors; they sleep their final sleep; the hands of all the mighty have failed. | 6 at your reproof, God of Jacob, chariot and horse stand stunned. |
At your roar, O God of Jacob, chariots and steeds lay still. | 7 You, you alone, strike terror! Who can hold his ground in your presence when your anger strikes? |
So terrible and awesome are you; who can stand before you and your great anger? | 8 From heaven your verdicts thunder, the earth is silent with dread |
From the heavens you pronounced sentence; the earth was terrified and reduced to silence, | 9 when God takes his stand to give judgement, to save all the humble of the earth.Pause |
When you arose, O God, for judgment to deliver the afflicted of the land. Selah | 10 Human anger serves only to praise you, the survivors of your anger will huddle round you. |
Even wrathful Edom praises you; the remnant of Hamath keeps your feast. | 11 Make and fulfil your vows to Yahweh your God, let those who surround him make offerings to theAwesome One. |
Make and keep vows to the LORD your God. May all present bring gifts to this awesome God, | 12 He cuts short the breath of princes, strikes terror in earthly kings. |
Who checks the pride of princes, inspires awe among the kings of earth. |
