Job 32

Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.1 But these three men ceased to answer Job, because he considered himself justified.
But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.2 And Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, was angry and indignant. But he was angry against Job because he described himself to be just in the presence of God.
He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.3 Moreover, he was indignant with his friends because they had not found a reasonable response, except in so far as they condemned Job.
But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.4 Therefore, Eliu waited while Job was talking, for these were his elders that were speaking.
When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.5 But when he saw that these three were not able to respond, he was extremely angry.
So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, spoke out and said: I am young and you are very old; therefore I held back and was afraid to declare to you my knowledge.6 And so Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite responded by saying: I am younger in years, and you are more ancient; therefore, I kept my head low, for I was afraid to reveal to you my opinion.
Days should speak, I thought, and many years teach wisdom!7 For I had hoped that greater age would speak, and that a multitude of years would teach wisdom.
But it is a spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.8 But I see now that there is only breath in men, and that it is the inspiration of the Almighty that gives understanding.
It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.9 The wise are not the aged, nor do the elders understand judgment.
Therefore I say, hearken to me; let me too set forth my knowledge!10 Therefore, I will speak. Listen to me, and so I will show you my wisdom.
Behold, I have waited for your discourses, and have given ear to your arguments.11 For I have endured your words; I have paid attention to your deliberations, while you were being argumentative with words.
Yes, I followed you attentively as you searched out what to say; And behold, there is none who has convicted Job, not one of you who could refute his statements.12 And as long as I supposed that you were saying something, I considered; but now I see that there is none of you that is able to argue with Job and to respond to his words.
Yet do not say, "We have met wisdom. God may vanquish him but not man!"13 So that you will not say, “We have found wisdom,” God has thrown him down, not man.
For had he addressed his words to me, I should not then have answered him as you have done.14 He has said nothing to me, and I will not respond to him according to your words.
They are dismayed, they make no more reply; words fail them.15 Then they were filled with dread, and so they no longer responded, and they withdrew from their speechmaking.
Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,16 Therefore, because I have waited and they have not been speaking, for they stood firm and did not respond at all,
I too will speak my part; I also will show my knowledge!17 I also will answer in my turn, and I will reveal my knowledge.
For I am full of matters to utter; the spirit within me compels me.18 For I am full of words, and the feeling in my gut inspires me.
Like a new wineskin with wine under pressure, my bosom is ready to burst.19 Yes, my stomach is like fermenting wine without a vent, which bursts the new containers.
Let me speak and obtain relief; let me open my lips, and make reply.20 I should speak, but I will also breathe a little; I will open my lips, and I will answer.
I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.21 I will not esteem the reputation of a man, and I will not equate God with man.
For I know nought of flattery; if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.22 For I do not know how long I will continue, and whether, after a while, my Maker might take me away.
