1 Then the three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.	1 Quei tre uomini cessarono di rispondere a Giobbe, perché egli si riteneva giusto.
2 But the anger of Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled. He was angry with Job for considering himself rather than God to be in the right.	2 Allora si accese lo sdegno di Eliu, figlio di Barachele, il Buzita, della tribù di Ram. Si accese di sdegno contro Giobbe, perché si considerava giusto di fronte a Dio;
3 He was angry also with the three friends because they had not found a good answer and had not condemned Job.	3 si accese di sdegno anche contro i suoi tre amici, perché non avevano trovato di che rispondere, sebbene avessero dichiarato Giobbe colpevole.
4 But since these men were older than he, Elihu bided his time before addressing Job.	4 Eliu aveva aspettato, mentre essi parlavano con Giobbe, perché erano più vecchi di lui in età.
5 When, however, Elihu saw that there was no reply in the mouths of the three men, his wrath was inflamed.	5 Quando vide che sulla bocca di questi tre uomini non vi era più alcuna risposta, Eliu si accese di sdegno.
6 So Elihu, son of Barachel the Buzite, spoke out and said: I am young and you are very old; therefore I held back and was afraid to declare to you my knowledge.	6 Eliu, figlio di Barachele, il Buzita, prese a dire: «Giovane io sono di anni e voi siete già canuti; per questo ho esitato, per rispetto, a manifestarvi il mio sapere.
7 Days should speak, I thought, and many years teach wisdom!	7 Pensavo: “Parlerà l’età e gli anni numerosi insegneranno la sapienza”.
8 But it is a spirit in man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.	8 Ma è lo spirito che è nell’uomo, è il soffio dell’Onnipotente che lo fa intelligente.
9 It is not those of many days who are wise, nor the aged who understand the right.	9 Essere anziani non significa essere sapienti, essere vecchi non significa saper giudicare.
10 Therefore I say, hearken to me; let me too set forth my knowledge!	10 Per questo io oso dire: “Ascoltatemi; esporrò anch’io il mio parere”.
11 Behold, I have waited for your discourses, and have given ear to your arguments.	11 Ecco, ho atteso le vostre parole, ho teso l’orecchio ai vostri ragionamenti. Finché andavate in cerca di argomenti,
12 Yes, I followed you attentively as you searched out what to say; And behold, there is none who has convicted Job, not one of you who could refute his statements.	12 su di voi fissai l’attenzione. Ma ecco, nessuno ha potuto confutare Giobbe, nessuno tra voi ha risposto ai suoi detti.
13 Yet do not say, "We have met wisdom. God may vanquish him but not man!"	13 Non venite a dire: “Abbiamo trovato noi la sapienza, Dio solo può vincerlo, non un uomo!”.
14 For had he addressed his words to me, I should not then have answered him as you have done.	14 Egli non ha rivolto a me le sue parole, e io non gli risponderò con i vostri argomenti.
15 They are dismayed, they make no more reply; words fail them.	15 Sono sconcertati, non rispondono più, mancano loro le parole.
16 Must I wait? Now that they speak no more, and have ceased to make reply,	16 Ho atteso, ma poiché non parlano più, poiché stanno lì senza risposta,
17 I too will speak my part; I also will show my knowledge!	17 risponderò anch’io per la mia parte, esporrò anch’io il mio parere;
18 For I am full of matters to utter; the spirit within me compels me.	18 mi sento infatti pieno di parole, mi preme lo spirito che è nel mio ventre.
19 Like a new wineskin with wine under pressure, my bosom is ready to burst.	19 Ecco, il mio ventre è come vino senza aria di sfogo, come otri nuovi sta per scoppiare.
20 Let me speak and obtain relief; let me open my lips, and make reply.	20 Parlerò e avrò un po’ d’aria, aprirò le labbra e risponderò.
21 I would not be partial to anyone, nor give flattering titles to any.	21 Non guarderò in faccia ad alcuno, e non adulerò nessuno,
22 For I know nought of flattery; if I did, my Maker would soon take me away.	22 perché io non so adulare: altrimenti il mio creatore in breve mi annienterebbe.
