DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
A prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our refuge from generation to generation.1 [Prayer Of Moses, man of God] Lord, you have been our refuge from age to age.
Before the mountains were made, or the earth and the world was formed; from eternity and to eternity thou art God.2 Before the mountains were born, before the earth and the world came to birth, from eternity to eternityyou are God.
Turn not man away to be brought low: and thou hast said: Be converted, O ye sons of men.3 You bring human beings to the dust, by saying, 'Return, children of Adam.'
For a thousand years in thy sight are as yesterday, which is past. And as a watch in the night,4 A thousand years are to you like a yesterday which has passed, like a watch of the night.
things that are counted nothing, shall their years be.5 You flood them with sleep -- in the morning they wil be like growing grass:
In the morning man shall grow up like grass; in the morning he shall flourish and pass away: in the evening he shall fall, grow dry, and wither.6 in the morning it is blossoming and growing, by evening it is withered and dry.
For in thy wrath we have fainted away: and are troubled in thy indignation.7 For we have been destroyed by your wrath, dismayed by your anger.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thy eyes: our life in the light of thy countenance.8 You have taken note of our guilty deeds, our secrets in the ful light of your presence.
For all our days are spent; and in thy wrath we have fainted away. Our years shall be considered spider:9 Al our days pass under your wrath, our lives are over like a sigh.
the days of our years in them are threescore and ten years. But if in the strong they be fourscore years: and what is more of them is labour and sorrow. For mildness is come upon us: and we shall be corrected.10 The span of our life is seventy years -- eighty for those who are strong -- but their whole extent isanxiety and trouble, they are over in a moment and we are gone.
Who knoweth the power of thy anger, and for thy fear11 Who feels the power of your anger, or who that fears you, your wrath?
can number thy wrath? So make thy right hand known: and men learned in heart, in wisdom.12 Teach us to count up the days that are ours, and we shal come to the heart of wisdom.
Return, O Lord, how long? and be entreated in favour of thy servants.13 Come back, Yahweh! How long must we wait? Take pity on your servants.
We are filled in the morning with thy mercy: and we have rejoiced, and are delighted all our days.14 Each morning fill us with your faithful love, we shal sing and be happy all our days;
We have rejoiced for the days in which thou hast humbled us: for the years in which we have seen evils.15 let our joy be as long as the time that you afflicted us, the years when we experienced disaster.
Look upon thy servants and upon their works: and direct their children.16 Show your servants the deeds you do, let their children enjoy your splendour!
And let the brightness of the Lord our God be upon us: and direct thou the works of our hands over us; yea, the work of our hands do thou direct.17 May the sweetness of the Lord be upon us, to confirm the work we have done!
