| 1 El Señor envió un gran pez para que se tragase a Jonás, y allí estuvo Jonás, en el vientre del pez, durante tres días con sus noches. | 1 Now Yahweh ordained that a great fish should swal ow Jonah; and Jonah remained in the bel y of thefish for three days and three nights. |
| 2 Jonás suplicó al Señor, su Dios, desde el vientre del pez: | 2 From the bel y of the fish, Jonah prayed to Yahweh, his God; he said: |
| 3 «Invoqué al Señor en mi desgracia y me escuchó; | desde lo hondo del Abismo pedí auxilio | y escuchaste mi llamada. | 3 Out of my distress I cried to Yahweh and he answered me, from the bel y of Sheol I cried out; you heardmy voice! |
| 4 Me arrojaste a las profundidades de alta mar, | las corrientes me rodeaban, | todas tus olas y oleajes se echaron sobre mí. | 4 For you threw me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the floods closed round me. Al yourwaves and bil ows passed over me; |
| 5 Me dije: “Expulsado de tu presencia, | ¿cuándo volveré a contemplar tu santa morada?”. | 5 then I thought, 'I am banished from your sight; how shal I ever see your holy Temple again?' |
| 6 El agua me llegaba hasta el cuello, | el Abismo me envolvía, | las algas cubrían mi cabeza; | 6 The waters round me rose to my neck, the deep was closing round me, seaweed twining round myhead. |
| 7 descendí hasta las raíces de los montes, | el cerrojo de la tierra se cerraba | para siempre tras de mí. | Pero tú, Señor, Dios mío, | me sacaste vivo de la fosa. | 7 To the roots of the mountains, I sank into the underworld, and its bars closed round me for ever. But youraised my life from the Pit, Yahweh my God! |
| 8 Cuando ya desfallecía mi ánimo, | me acordé del Señor; | y mi oración llegó hasta ti, | hasta tu santa morada. | 8 When my soul was growing ever weaker, Yahweh, I remembered you, and my prayer reached you inyour holy Temple. |
| 9 Los que sirven a ídolos vanos | abandonan al que los ama. | 9 Some abandon their faithful love by worshipping false gods, |
| 10 Pero yo te daré gracias, | te ofreceré un sacrificio; | cumpliré mi promesa. | La salvación viene del Señor». | 10 but I shal sacrifice to you with songs of praise. The vow I have made I shall fulfil! Salvation comesfrom Yahweh! |
| 11 Y el Señor habló al pez, que vomitó a Jonás en tierra firme. | 11 Yahweh spoke to the fish, which then vomited Jonah onto the dry land. |
