1 Escuchad ahora lo que dice Yahveh: «¡Levántate, pleitea con los montes y oigan las colinas tu voz!» | 1 Now listen to what Yahweh says: 'Stand up, state your case to the mountains and let the hills hear whatyou have to say!' |
2 ¡Escuchad, montes, el pleito de Yahveh, prestad oído, cimientos de la tierra, pues Yahveh tiene pleito con su pueblo, se querella contra Israel: | 2 Listen, mountains, to the case as Yahweh puts it, give ear, you foundations of the earth, for Yahweh hasa case against his people and he wil argue it with Israel. |
3 «Pueblo mío, ¿qué te he hecho? ¿En qué te he molestado? Respóndeme. | 3 'My people, what have I done to you, how have I made you tired of me? Answer me! |
4 ¿En que te hice subir del país de Egipto, y de la casa de servidumbre te rescaté, y mandé delante de ti a Moisés, Aarón y María? | 4 For I brought you up from Egypt, I ransomed you from the place of slave-labour and sent Moses, Aaronand Miriam to lead you. |
5 Pueblo mío, recuerda, por favor, qué maquinó Balaq, rey de Moab, y qué le contestó Balaam, hijo de Beor, ... desde Sittim hasta Guilgal, para que conozcas las justicias de Yahveh». | 5 My people, please remember: what was Balak king of Moab's plan and how did Balaam son of Beoranswer him? . . . from Shittim to Gilgal, for you to know Yahweh's saving justice. |
6 - «¿Con qué me presentaré yo a Yahveh, me inclinaré ante el Dios de lo alto? ¿Me presentaré con holocaustos, con becerros añales? | 6 'With what shal I enter Yahweh's presence and bow down before God All-high? Shall I enter with burntofferings, with calves one year old? |
7 ¿Aceptará Yahveh miles de carneros, miríadas de torrentes de aceite? ¿Daré mi primogénito por mi delito, el fruto de mis entrañas por el pecado de mi alma?» | 7 Wil he be pleased with rams by the thousand, with ten thousand streams of oil? Shal I offer my eldestson for my wrong-doing, the child of my own body for my sin? |
8 - «Se te ha declarado, hombre, lo que es bueno, lo que Yahveh de ti reclama: tan sólo practicar la equidad, amar la piedad y caminar humildemente con tu Dios». | 8 'You have already been told what is right and what Yahweh wants of you. Only this, to do what is right,to love loyalty and to walk humbly with your God.' |
9 La voz de Yahveh grita a la ciudad: ¡Escuchad, tribu y consejo de la ciudad! | 9 Yahweh's voice! He thunders to the city, 'Listen, tribe of assembled citizens! |
10 He de soportar yo una medida falsa y una arroba menguada, abominable? | 10 Can I overlook the false measure, that abomination, the short bushel? |
11 ¿Tendré por justa la balanza enfractora y la bolsa de pesas de fraude? | 11 Can I connive at rigged scales and at the bag of fraudulent weights? |
12 ¡Sus ricos están llenos de violencia, y sus habitantes hablan falsedad: (su lengua es la mentira en su boca)! | 12 For the rich there are steeped in violence, and the citizens there are habitual liars. |
13 Por eso yo también he comenzado a herirte, a devastarte por tus pecados. | 13 'I myself have therefore begun to strike you down, to bring you to ruin for your sins. |
14 Tú comerás, pero no te saciarás, tu mugre estará dentro de ti. Pondrás a buen recaudo, mas nada salvarás, y lo que hayas salvado lo entregaré yo a la espada. | 14 You wil eat but not be satisfied; you wil store up but never keep safe; what you do keep safe I shalhand over to the sword; |
15 Sembrarás y no segarás, pisarás la aceituna y no te ungirás de aceite, el mosto, y no beberás vino. | 15 you wil sow but wil not reap, press the olive but wil not rub yourself with oil, tread the grape but wilnot drink the wine. |
16 Tú observas los decretos de Omrí, y todas las prácticas de la casa de Ajab; te conduces según sus consejos, para que yo te convierta en estupor y a tus habitantes en rechifla, y soportéis el oprobio de los pueblos. | 16 'For you keep the laws of Omri; what the House of Ahab did, you have done; by model ing yourselveson their standards, you force me to make an appal ing example of you and reduce your citizens to a laughing-stock; hence you wil endure the scorn of other peoples.' |
