Amós 8

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Esto me dio a ver el Señor Yahveh: Había una canasta de fruta madura.	1 This is what Lord Yahweh showed me: A basket of ripe fruit.
2 Y me dijo: «¿Qué ves, Amós?» Yo respondí: «Una canasta de fruta madura». Y Yahveh me dijo: «¡Ha llegado la madurez para mi pueblo Israel, ni una más le volveré a pasar!	2 'What do you see, Amos?' he asked. 'A basket of ripe fruit,' I said. Then Yahweh said, 'The time is ripefor my people Israel; I wil not continue to overlook their offences.
3 Los cantos de palacio serán lamentos aquel día - oráculo del Señor Yahveh - serán muchos los cadáveres, en todo lugar se arrojarán ¡silencio!	3 That day, the palace songs will turn to howls, -declares the Lord Yahweh- the corpses wil be manythat are thrown down everywhere. Keep silent!'
4 Escuchad esto los que pisoteáis al pobre y queréis suprimir a los humildes de la tierra,	4 Listen to this, you who crush the needy and reduce the oppressed to nothing,
5 diciendo: «¿Cuándo pasará el novilunio para poder vender el grano, y el sábado para dar salida al trigo, para achicar la medida y aumentar el peso, falsificando balanzas de fraude,	5 you who say, 'When wil New Moon be over so that we can sel our corn, and Sabbath, so that we canmarket our wheat? Then, we can make the bushel-measure smaller and the shekel-weight bigger, byfraudulently tampering with the scales.
6 para comprar por dinero a los débiles y al pobre por un par de sandalias, para vender hasta el salvado del grano?»	6 We can buy up the weak for silver and the poor for a pair of sandals, and even get a price for thesweepings of the wheat.'
7 Ha jurado Yahveh por el orgullo de Jacob: ¡Jamás he de olvidar todas sus obras!	7 Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, 'Never wil I forget anything they have done.'
8 ¿No se estremecerá por ello la tierra, y hará duelo todo el que en ella habita, subirá toda entera como el Nilo, se encrespará y bajará como el Nilo de Egipto?	8 Wil not the earth tremble for this and al who live on it lament, as it al rises together like the Nile inEgypt, it swel s and then subsides like the Egyptian Nile?
9 Sucederá aquel día - oráculo del Señor Yahveh - que yo haré ponerse el sol a mediodía, y en plena luz del día cubriré la tierra de tinieblas.	9 'On that Day- declares the Lord Yahweh- I shal make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth inbroad daylight.
10 Trocaré en duelo vuestra fiesta, y en elegía todas vuestras canciones; en todos los lomos pondré sayal y tonsura en todas las cabezas; lo haré como duelo de hijo único y su final como día de amargura.	10 I shall turn your festivals into mourning and all your singing into lamentation; I shall make you all wearsacking round your waists and have al your heads shaved. I shal make it like the mourning for an only child,and it wil end like the bitterest of days.
11 He aquí que vienen días - oráculo del Señor Yahveh - en que yo mandaré hambre a la tierra, no hambre de pan, ni sed de agua, sino de oír la palabra de Yahveh.	11 'The days are coming- declares the Lord Yahweh- when I shal send a famine on the country, nothunger for food, not thirst for water, but famine for hearing Yahweh's word.
12 Entonces vagarán de mar a mar, de norte a levante andarán errantes en busca de la Palabra de Yahveh, pero no la encontrarán.	12 People wil stagger from sea to sea, will wander from the north to the east, searching for Yahweh'sword, but wil not find it.
13 Aquel día desfallecerán de sed las muchachas hermosas y los jóvenes.	13 'That Day, fine girls and stalwart youths will faint from thirst.
14 Los que juran por el pecado de Samaria, los que dicen: «¡Vive tu Dios, Dan!» y «¡Viva el camino de Berseba!», ésos caerán para no alzarse más.	14 The people who swear by the Sin of Samaria, who say, "Long live your god, Dan!" and "Hurrah for thepilgrimage to Beersheba!" will all fal , never to rise again.'
