BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Después de estos sucesos ocurrió que Nabot, de Yizreel, tenía una viña junto al palacio de Ajab, rey de Samaría,	1 This is what happened next: Naboth of Jezreel had a vineyard close by the palace of Ahab king ofSamaria,
2 y Ajab habló a Nabot diciendo: «Dame tu viña para que me sirva de huerto para hortalizas, pues está pegando a mi casa, y yo te daré por ella una viña mejor que está, o si parece bien a tus ojos te daré su precio en dinero».	2 and Ahab said to Naboth, 'Give me your vineyard to be my vegetable garden, since it adjoins mypalace; I will give you a better vineyard for it or, if you prefer, I wil give you its value in money.'
3 Respondió Nabot a Ajab: «Líbreme Yahveh de darte la herencia de mis padres».	3 Naboth, however, said to Ahab, 'Yahweh forbid that I should give you my ancestral heritage!'
4 Se fue Ajab a su casa triste e irritado por la palabra que le dijo Nabot de Yizreel: «No te daré la heredad de mis padres»; se acostó en su lecho, volvió su rostro y no quiso comer.	4 Ahab went home gloomy and out of temper at the words of Naboth of Jezreel, 'I wil not give you myheritage from my ancestors.' He lay down on his bed and turned his face away and refused to eat.
5 Vino a donde él su mujer Jezabel, y le habló: «¿Por qué está triste tu espíritu y por qué no quieres comer?»	5 His wife Jezebel came to him. 'Why are you so dispirited,' she said, 'that you refuse to eat?'
6 El le respondió: «Porque he hablado con Nabot de Yizreel y le he dicho: “Dame tu viña por dinero o, si lo prefieres, te daré una viña a cambio”, y me dijo: “No te daré mi viña.”»	6 He said, 'I have been talking to Naboth of Jezreel. I said, "Give me your vineyard either for money or, ifyou prefer, for another vineyard in exchange." But he said, "I wil not give you my vineyard." '
7 Su mujer Jezabel le dijo: «¿Y eres tú el que ejerces la realeza en Israel? Levántate, come y que se alegre tu corazón. Yo te daré la viña de Nabot de Yizreel».	7 Then his wife Jezebel said, 'Some king of Israel you make! Get up, eat and take heart; I myself shalget you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.'
8 Escribió cartas en nombre de Ajab y las selló con su sello, y envió las cartas a los ancianos y notables que vivían junto a Nabot.	8 So she wrote a letter in Ahab's name and sealed it with his seal, sending the letter to the elders and notables of the city where Naboth lived.
9 En las cartas había escrito: «Proclamad un ayuno y haced sentar a Nabot a la cabeza del pueblo.	9 In the letter, she wrote, 'Proclaim a fast, and put Naboth in a prominent place among the people.
10 Haced que se sienten frente a él dos malvados que le acusarán diciendo: “Has maldecido a Dios y al rey” y le sacaréis y le apedrearéis para que muera».	10 There confront him with a couple of scoundrels who wil accuse him as follows, "You have cursedGod and the king." Then take him outside and stone him to death.'
11 Los hombres de la ciudad, los ancianos y notables que vivían junto a Nabot en su ciudad, hicieron lo que Jezabel les había mandado, de acuerdo con lo escrito en las cartas que les había remitido.	11 The men of Naboth's city, the elders and notables living in his city, did what Jezebel ordered, as waswritten in the letter which she had sent him.
12 Proclamaron un ayuno e hicieron sentar a Nabot a la cabeza del pueblo.	12 They proclaimed a fast and put Naboth in a prominent place among the people.
13 Llegaron los dos malvados, se sentaron frente a él y acusaron los malvados a Nabot delante del pueblo diciendo: «Nabot ha maldecido a Dios y al rey»; le sacaron fuera de la ciudad, le apedrearon y murió.	13 The two scoundrels then came and confronted him, and the scoundrels then publicly accused Nabothas fol ows, 'Naboth has cursed God and the king.' He was then taken outside the city and stoned to death.
14 Enviaron a decir a Jezabel: «Nabot ha sido apedreado y ha muerto».	14 They then sent word to Jezebel, 'Naboth has been stoned to death.'
15 Cuando Jezabel oyó que Nabot había sido apedreado y muerto, dijo a Ajab: «Levántate, toma posesión de la viña de Nabot, el de Yizreel, el que se negó a dártela por dinero, pues Nabot ya no vive, ha muerto».	15 When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, 'Get up! Takepossession of the vineyard which Naboth of Jezreel refused to sel you, for Naboth is no longer alive, he is dead.'
16 Apenas oyó Ajab que Nabot había muerto, se levantó y bajó a la viña de Nabot, el de Yizreel, para tomar posesión de ella.	16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth of Jezreeland take possession of it.
17 Entonces fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh a Elías tesbita diciendo:	17 Then the word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite,
18 «Levántate, baja al encuentro de Ajab, rey de Israel, que está en Samaría. Está en la viña de Nabot, a donde ha bajado a apropiársela.	18 'Up! Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, in Samaria. You will find him in Naboth's vineyard; he hasgone down to take possession of it.
19 Le hablarás diciendo: Así habla Yahveh: Has asesinado ¿y además usurpas? Luego le hablarás diciendo: Por esto, así habla Yahveh: En el mismo lugar en que los perros han lamido la sangre de Nabot, lamerán también los perros tu propia sangre».	19 You are to say this to him, "Yahweh says this: You have committed murder and now you usurp aswel . For this -- and Yahweh says this -- in the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lickyour blood too." '
20 Ajab dijo a Elías: «Has vuelto a encontrarme, enemigo mío». Respondió: «Te he vuelto a encontrar porque te has vendido para hacer el mal a los ojos de Yahveh.	20 Ahab said to Elijah, 'So you have caught me, O my enemy!' Elijah answered, 'I have caught you! Foryour double dealing, and since you have done what is displeasing to Yahweh,
21 Yo mismo voy a traer el mal sobre ti y voy a barrer tu posteridad y a exterminar todo varón de los de Ajab, libre o esclavo, en Israel.	21 I shal now bring disaster down on you; I shal sweep away your descendants and wipe out everymanjack of the House of Ahab, fettered or free in Israel.
22 Y haré tu casa como la casa de Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, y como la casa de Basá, hijo de Ajías, por la irritación con que me has irritado y por haber hecho pecar a Israel.	22 I shal treat your House as I treated the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and of Baasha son of Ahijah,for provoking my anger and leading Israel into sin.
23 También contra Jezabel ha hablado Yahveh diciendo: “Los perros comerán a Jezabel en la parcela de Yizreel.”	23 (Against Jezebel too Yahweh spoke these words, "The dogs wil eat Jezebel in the Field of Jezreel.")
24 A los hijos de Ajab que mueran en la ciudad los comerán los perros y a los que mueran en el campo los comerán las aves del cielo».	24 Those of Ahab's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the open country,the birds of the air wil eat.'
25 No hubo quien se prestara como Ajab para hacer el mal a los ojos de Yahveh, porque su mujer Jezabel le había seducido.	25 And indeed there never was anyone like Ahab for double dealing and for doing what is displeasing toYahweh, urged on by Jezebel his wife.
26 Su proceder fue muy abominable, yendo tras los ídolos, en todo como los amorreos a los que expulsó Yahveh ante los israelitas.	26 He behaved in the most abominable way, adhering to idols, just as the Amorites had, whom Yahwehhad dispossessed for the Israelites.
27 Cuando Ajab oyó estas palabras desgarró sus vestidos y se puso un sayal sobre su carne, ayunó y se acostó con el sayal puesto; y caminaba a paso lento.	27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his garments and put sackcloth next to his skin and fasted; heslept in the sackcloth; he walked with slow steps.
28 Fue dirigida la palabra de Yahveh a Elías tesbita diciendo:	28 Then the word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite,
29 «¿Has visto cómo Ajab se ha humillado en mi presencia? Por haberse humillado en mi presencia, no traeré el mal en vida suya; en vida de su hijo traeré el mal sobre su casa».	29 'Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Since he has humbled himself before me,I shal not bring the disaster in his days; I shal bring the disaster down on his House in his son's days.'
