BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il saggio magistrato renderà giustizia al suo popolo, e il governo dell'uomo assennato sarà stabile.	1 A sagacious ruler educates his people, and he makes his subjects understand order.
2 Quale è il capo del popolo, tali i suoi ministri; quale il governatore d'una città, tali i suoi abitanti.	2 As the magistrate is, so will his officials be, as the governor is, so wil be the inhabitants of his city.
3 Un re imprudente rovinerà il suo popolo, e le città saranno ingrandite per la prudenza dei grandi.	3 An undisciplined king wil be the ruin of his people, a city owes its prosperity to the intel igence of itsleading men.
4 Ilgoverno del mondo è nelle mani di Dio, ed Egli a suo tempo farà sorgere il re che ci vuole.	4 The government of the earth is in the hands of the Lord, he sets the right leader over it at the right time.
5 La felicità dell'uomo è nelle mani di Dio, ed Egli donerà la sua maestà alla faccia dello scriba.	5 Human success is in the hands of the Lord. He invests the scribe with honour.
6 Non ricordare le ingiurie ricevute dal prossimo, e non far nulla che sia ingiurioso.	6 Do not resent your neighbour's every offence, and never act in a fit of passion.
7 La superbia è odiata da Dio e dagli uomini, ed è in esecrazione ogni iniquità delle genti.	7 Pride is hateful to God and humanity, and injustice is abhorrent to both.
8 L'impero passa da una nazione all'altra a causa delle ingiustizie, delle violenze, degli oltraggi e d'ogni specie d'inganni.	8 Sovereignty passes from nation to nation because of injustice, arrogance and money.
9 Nulla di più scelerato dell'avaro. Come può insuperbire la terra e la cenere?	9 What has dust and ashes to pride itself on? Even in life its entrails are repel ent.
10 Niente è più iniquo di colui che ama il danaro: egli infatti mette in vendita anche l'anima sua, giacché da vivo si cava le proprie viscere.	10 A long illness makes a fool of the doctor; a king today is a corpse tomorrow.
11 Corta è la vita d'ogni potere. La lunga malattia stanca il medico,	11 For in death the portion of al alike wil be insects, wild animals and worms.
12 il medico tronca la corta malattia: così il re oggi vive e domani è morto.	12 The first stage of pride is to desert the Lord and to turn one's heart away from one's Maker.
13 E quando l'uomo è morto avrà, per suo retaggio serpenti, bestie e vermi.	13 Since the first stage of pride is sin, whoever clings to it will pour forth filth. This is why the Lord inflictsunexpected punishments on such people, utterly destroying them.
14 Il principio della superbia dell'uomo è l'apostasia da Dio:	14 The Lord has turned mighty princes off their thrones and seated the humble there instead.
15 infatti il suo cuore s'allontana da colui che lo creò; e il primo di tutti i peccati è la superbia. Chi starà attaccato a lei sarà pieno di maledizioni, e alla fine andrà in rovina.	15 The Lord has plucked up the proud by the roots, and planted the lowly in their place.
16 Per questo il Signore ha svergognate le riunioni dei malvagi, e li ha distrutti fino allo sterminio.	16 The Lord has overthrown the lands of the nations and destroyed them to the very foundations of theearth.
17 Dio ha gettato a terra i troni dei principi superbi, e al loro posto vi ha fatto sedere i miti.	17 Sometimes he has taken them away and destroyed them, and blotted out their memory from the earth.
18 Dio ha fatto seccare le radici delle nazioni superbe, e al loro posto ha piantate le umili.	18 Pride was not created for human beings, nor furious rage for those born of woman.
19 Dio ha distrutte le terre delle nazioni, le ha rovinate sin dai fondamenti,	19 What race deserves honour? The human race. What race deserves honour? Those who fear the Lord.What race deserves contempt? The human race. What race deserves contempt? Those who break the Law.
20 Ne ha fatte seccare molte, ne ha dispersi gli abitanti, ha fatto sparire dal mondo la loro memoria.	20 A leader is honoured by his brothers, and those who fear the Lord are honoured by him.
21 Dio ha fatto sparire il ricordo dei superbi ed ha lasciata la memoria degli umili di spirito.	21
22 Non fu creata per gli uomini la superbia, nè l'iracondia per i nati di donna.	22 The rich, the noble, the poor, let them pride themselves on fearing the Lord.
23 La razza degli uomini che teme Dio sarà onorata, e disonorata sarà quella razza che trasgredisce i comandamenti del Signore.	23 It is not right to despise one who is poor but intel igent, and it is not good to honour one who is asinner.
24 Tra i fratelli è onorato il loro capo, ma agli occhi del Signore quelli che lo temono.	24 Magnate, magistrate, potentate, all are to be honoured, but none is greater than the one who fears theLord.
25 La gloria dei ricchi, dei grandi e dei poveri è il timor di Dio.	25 A wise slave wil have free men waiting on him, and the enlightened wil not complain.
26 Guardati dal disprezzare il giusto povero e dal fare grande stima del peccatore ricco.	26 Do not try to be smart when you do your work, do not put on airs when you are in difficulties.
27 I grandi, i magistrati, i potenti sono in onore, ma nessuno è più grande di colui che teme Dio.	27 Better the hardworking who has plenty of everything, than the pretentious at a loss for a meal.
28 Al servo sapiente serviranno gli uomini liberi; l'uomo prudente e disciplinato non mormorerà, se corretto, e l'ignorante non sarà onorato.	28 My child, be modest in your self-esteem, and value yourself at your proper worth.
29 Non pensare troppo altamente di te quando devi fare un lavoro, e non stare a vedere nel tempo del bisogno.	29 Who can justify one who inflicts injuries on himself, or respect one who is ful of self-contempt?
30 Val più colui che lavora e abbonda di tutto, che uno che si vanta e manca di pane.	30 The poor is honoured for wit, and the rich for wealth.
31 Figliolo, colla mansuetudine conserva la tua anima, e rendile onore secondo il suo merito.	31 Honoured in poverty, how much the more in wealth! Dishonoured in wealth, how much the more inpoverty!
32 Chi giustificherà colui che pecca contro l'anima, propria? Chi onorerà colui che disonora la sua anima?
33 Il povero è onorato per la sua istruzione e il suo timore, e v'è anche l'uomo onorato per le sue ricchezze.
34 Ma chi è glorioso nella povertà, quanto più sarebbe nelle ricchezze? Colui che si gloria delle ricchezze tema la povertà.
