1 After the death of Joshua the people of Israel inquired of the LORD, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?"	1 Nach dem Tod Josuas befragten die Israeliten den Herrn: Wer von uns soll zuerst gegen die Kanaaniter in den Kampf ziehen?
2 The LORD said, "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand."	2 Der Herr antwortete: Juda soll (zuerst) hinaufziehen; ich gebe das Land in seine Gewalt.
3 And Judah said to Simeon his brother, "Come up with me into the territory allotted to me, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into the territory allotted to you." So Simeon went with him.	3 Da sagte Juda zu seinem Bruder Simeon: Zieh mit mir hinauf in das Gebiet, das mir durch das Los zugefallen ist; wir wollen (zusammen) gegen die Kanaaniter kämpfen. Dann werde auch ich mit dir in dein Gebiet ziehen. Da ging Simeon mit ihm.
4 Then Judah went up and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they defeated ten thousand of them at Bezek.	4 Juda zog hinauf und der Herr gab die Kanaaniter und die Perisiter in ihre Gewalt. Sie schlugen sie bei Besek - (ein Heer von) zehntausend Mann.
5 They came upon Adoni-bezek at Bezek, and fought against him, and defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.	5 Sie stießen bei Besek auf Adoni-Besek, kämpften mit ihm und schlugen die Kanaaniter und die Perisiter.
6 Adoni-bezek fled; but they pursued him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.	6 Adoni-Besek floh, aber sie verfolgten ihn, ergriffen ihn und hackten ihm die Daumen und die großen Zehen ab.
7 And Adoni-bezek said, "Seventy kings with their thumbs and their great toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has requited me." And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.	7 Da sagte Adoni-Besek: Siebzig Könige mit abgehackten Daumen und abgehackten großen Zehen haben unter meinem Tisch (den Abfall) aufgelesen. Wie ich gehandelt habe, so vergilt mir Gott. Man brachte ihn nach Jerusalem und dort starb er.
8 And the men of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.	8 Die Judäer kämpften auch gegen Jerusalem, nahmen es ein, schlugen die Stadt mit scharfem Schwert und steckten sie in Brand.
9 And afterward the men of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who dwelt in the hill country, in the Negeb, and in the lowland.	9 Danach zogen die Judäer weiter, um gegen die Kanaaniter zu kämpfen, die im Gebirge, im Negeb und in der Schefela wohnten.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites who dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba); and they defeated Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.	10 Juda zog auch gegen die Kanaaniter, die in Hebron wohnten - Hebron hieß früher Kirjat-Arba -, und sie schlugen Scheschai, Ahiman und Talmai.
11 From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir. The name of Debir was formerly Kiriath-sepher.	11 Von dort zogen sie weiter gegen die Einwohner von Debir. Debir hieß früher Kirjat-Sefer.
12 And Caleb said, "He who attacks Kiriath-sepher and takes it, I will give him Achsah my daughter as wife."	12 Da sagte Kaleb: Wer Kirjat- Sefer schlägt und einnimmt, dem gebe ich meine Tochter Achsa zur Frau.
13 And Othni-el the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him Achsah his daughter as wife.	13 Otniël, der Sohn des Kenas, des jüngeren Bruders Kalebs, nahm die Stadt ein. Da gab ihm Kaleb seine Tochter Achsa zur Frau.
14 When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field; and she alighted from her ass, and Caleb said to her, "What do you wish?"	14 Als sie nun ankam, drängte er sie, von ihrem Vater ein Stück Land zu verlangen. Da ließ sie sich vom Esel herabgleiten und Kaleb fragte sie: Was hast du?
15 She said to him, "Give me a present; since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also springs of water." And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.	15 Sie antwortete: Gib mir ein Geschenk als Zeichen des Segens! Wenn du mich schon ins Trockenland schickst, dann gib mir auch Wasserstellen! Da gab Kaleb ihr die Obere und die Untere Quelle.
16 And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad; and they went and settled with the people.	16 Die Söhne des Keniters (Hobab), des Schwiegervaters des Mose, waren mit den Judäern von der Palmenstadt zur Wüste Juda südlich von Arad hinaufgezogen; nun zogen sie weiter und ließen sich bei den Amalekitern nieder.
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they defeated the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. So the name of the city was called Hormah.	17 Juda aber zog mit seinem Bruder Simeon weiter. Sie schlugen die Kanaaniter, die in Zefat wohnten, weihten die Stadt dem Untergang und nannten sie Horma (Untergangsweihe).
18 Judah also took Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.	18 Doch Gaza und sein Gebiet, Aschkelon und sein Gebiet, Ekron und sein Gebiet konnte Juda nicht erobern.
19 And the LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but he could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain, because they had chariots of iron.	19 Der Herr war mit Juda, sodass es das Bergland in Besitz nehmen konnte. Aber die Bewohner der Ebene konnten sie nicht vertreiben, weil sie eiserne Kampfwagen hatten.
20 And Hebron was given to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he drove out from it the three sons of Anak.	20 Dem Kaleb gab man Hebron, wie Mose es angeordnet hatte; er vertrieb von dort die drei Söhne Anaks.
21 But the people of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites who dwelt in Jerusalem; so the Jebusites have dwelt with the people of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.	21 Die Benjaminiter konnten die Jebusiter, die in Jerusalem wohnten, nicht vertreiben und so blieben die Jebusiter bei den Benjaminitern in Jerusalem wohnen bis auf den heutigen Tag.
22 The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and the LORD was with them.	22 Auch die Nachkommen Josefs zogen hinauf, und zwar nach Bet-El. Und der Herr war mit ihnen.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city was formerly Luz.)	23 Die Nachkommen Josefs ließen Bet-El beobachten. Die Stadt hieß früher Lus.
24 And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, "Pray, show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you."	24 Als die Wachen einen Mann aus der Stadt herauskommen sahen, sagten sie zu ihm: Zeig uns, wo man in die Stadt eindringen kann, dann werden wir dir unser Wohlwollen beweisen.
25 And he showed them the way into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.	25 Er zeigte ihnen eine Stelle, wo sie in die Stadt eindringen konnten, und sie schlugen die Stadt mit scharfem Schwert. Den Mann aber und seine ganze Sippe ließen sie gehen.
26 And the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city, and called its name Luz; that is its name to this day.	26 Der Mann ging in das Land der Hetiter, erbaute eine Stadt und nannte sie Lus. Das ist ihr Name bis auf den heutigen Tag.
27 Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taa-nach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; but the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land.	27 Manasse konnte (die Einwohner von) Bet-Schean und seinen Tochterstädten sowie von Taanach und seinen Tochterstädten, die Einwohner von Dor und seinen Tochterstädten, die Einwohner von Jibleam und seinen Tochterstädten und die Einwohner von Megiddo und seinen Tochterstädten nicht vertreiben. So gelang es den Kanaanitern, in dieser Gegend zu verbleiben.
28 When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out.	28 Als die Israeliten stark geworden waren, zwangen sie die Kanaaniter zur Fron, aber vertreiben konnten sie sie nicht.
29 And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.	29 Efraim konnte die Kanaaniter nicht vertreiben, die in Geser wohnten. Darum blieben die Kanaaniter mitten unter ihnen in Geser wohnen.
30 Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became subject to forced labor.	30 Sebulon konnte die Einwohner von Kitron und die Einwohner von Nahalol nicht vertreiben. Darum blieben die Kanaaniter mitten unter ihnen wohnen, aber sie wurden Fronarbeiter.
31 Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, or of Achzib, or of Helbah, or of Aphik, or of Rehob;	31 Ascher konnte die Einwohner von Akko und die Einwohner von Sidon nicht vertreiben, auch nicht (die Einwohner) von Mahaleb, Achsib, Helba, Afek und Roheb.
32 but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.	32 Darum leben die Ascheriter mitten unter den Kanaanitern, die in der Gegend wohnen blieben, weil man sie nicht vertreiben konnte.
33 Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them.	33 Naftali konnte die Einwohner von Bet-Schemesch und die Einwohner von Bet-Anat nicht vertreiben und wohnt deshalb mitten unter den Kanaanitern, die im Land verblieben sind. Die Einwohner von Bet-Schemesch und Bet- Anat aber wurden Fronarbeiter.
34 The Amorites pressed the Danites back into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the plain;	34 Die Amoriter drängten die Daniter ins Bergland ab und ließen sie nicht in die Ebene herabkommen.
35 the Amorites persisted in dwelling in Har-heres, in Aijalon, and in Sha-albim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily upon them, and they became subject to forced labor.	35 Es gelang den Amoritern, in Har-Heres, Ajalon und Schaalbim zu bleiben; als aber das Haus Josef ihnen überlegen war, wurden sie Fronarbeiter.
36 And the border of the Amorites ran from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.	36 Das Gebiet der Amoriter reicht von der Skorpionensteige bis nach Sela und darüber hinaus.
