Ephesians 4

1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called,	1 Or io, che sono prigioniero del Signore, vi scongiuro ad avere una condotta degna della vocazione che avete ricevuta,
2 with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love,	2 con tutta umiltà, con mansuetudine, con pazienza, con carità, sopportandovi gli uni gli altri,
3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.	3 studiandovi di conservare l'unità dello Spirito col vincolo della pace,
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call,	4 un sol corpo, un solo Spirito, come ad una sola speranza siete stati chiamati colla vostra vocazione.
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,	5 Un solo Signore, una sola fede, un solo battesimo.
6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.	6 Un solo Dio e Padre di tutti, che è sopra di tutti, che è in tut­te le cose e specialmente in noi tutti.
7 But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.	7 Ma a ciascuno di noi la grazia è stata data secondo la misura del dono di Cristo,
8 Therefore it is said, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men."	8 e dice per questo: Salito in alto menò schiava la schiavitù, distribuì doni agli uomini.
9 (In saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth?	9 Ma che vorrebbe dire quel « salito », se prima non fosse anche disceso nelle regioni inferiori della terra?
10 He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)	10 Colui che è disceso è quel medesimo che è pure salito sopra tutti i cieli, a dar compimento ad ogni cosa.
11 And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,	11 Ed è lui che ha fatto alcuni apostoli, altri profeti, altri evangelisti, altri pastori e dottori,
12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,	12 per il perfezionamento dei santi, per l'opera del ministero, per la edificazione del corpo di Cristo,
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ;	13 finchè non arriviamo tut­ti, per l'unità della fede e della conoscenza del Figlio di Dio, al­l'uomo perfetto, alla misura dell'età piena di Cristo,
14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles.	14 in modo che non siamo come fanciulli sballottati e portati qua e là da ogni vento di dottrina per i raggiri degli uomini, per le astuzie che rendono seducente l'errore,
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,	15 ma praticando la verità nella carità continuiamo a crescere per ogni parte in lui che è il capo, Cristo,
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every joint with which it is supplied, when each part is working properly, makes bodily growth and upbuilds itself in love.	16 dal quale il corpo, proporzionato e concatenato per tutte le giunture, che si dànno mutuo soccorso, in virtù dell'operazione destinata a ciascun membro, riceve il suo aumento per essere edificato nella carità.
17 Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds;	17 Vi dico dunque, scongiurandovi nel Signore, di non vivere più come i pagani che seguono la vanità dei loro pensieri,
18 they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart;	18 che han no l'intelligenza ottenebrata e sono alieni dal vivere secondo Dio, a motivo dell'ignoranza nel­la quale si trovano in seguito al l'induramento del loro cuore.
19 they have become callous and have given themselves up to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness.	19 che privi d'ogni speranza si so­no abbandonati all'impurità, fino a commettere con ardente cupi­digia ogni sorta d'infamità.
20 You did not so learn Christ!--	20 Ma voi non avete imparato così Cristo,
21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus.	21 se ben lo avete ascoltato e siete stati ammaestrati in lui, secondo la verità che è in Gesù,
22 Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,	22 a spogliarvi riguardo al passato, dell'uomo vecchio, che si corrompe assecondando le passioni ingannatrici,
23 and be renewed in the spirit of your minds,	23 a rinnovarvi nello spirito della vostra mente,
24 and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.	24 a rivestirvi dell'uomo nuovo, creato secondo Dio nella giustizia e nella vera santità.
25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.	25 Lasciate quindi da parte ogni menzogna, « parli ciascuno secondo la verità al suo prossimo », perchè siamo membra gli uni degli altri.
26 Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,	26 Se vi adirate, guardatevi dal peccare: il sole non tramonti sopra l'ira vostra;
27 and give no opportunity to the devil.	27 nè fate posto al diavolo.
28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.	28 Chi rubava non rubi più, ma faccia piuttosto colle sue mani qualche onesto lavoro per aver di che dare ai bisognosi.
29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.	29 Non escano dalla vostra bocca discorsi cattivi, e se ne avete dei buoni che edifichino la fede, diteli per far del bene a chi vi ascolta.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.	30 E non contristate lo Spirito Santo di Dio, dal quale avete ricevuto il sigillo pel giorno della redenzio­ne.
31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice,	31 Ogni amarezza, ed ira, e indignazione, e clamore, e ingiuria, ed ogni sorta di malizia sia lontana da voi.
32 and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.	32 Siate invece benigni gli uni verso gli altri, misericordiosi, perdonandovi reciprocamente, come anche Dio in Cristo vi ha perdonato.
