Ephesians 4

1 I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called,	1 Io dunque, prigioniero a motivo del Signore, vi esorto: comportatevi in maniera degna della chiamata che avete ricevuto,
2 with all lowliness and meekness, with patience, forbearing one another in love,	2 con ogni umiltà, dolcezza e magnanimità, sopportandovi a vicenda nell’amore,
3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.	3 avendo a cuore di conservare l’unità dello spirito per mezzo del vincolo della pace.
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call,	4 Un solo corpo e un solo spirito, come una sola è la speranza alla quale siete stati chiamati, quella della vostra vocazione;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,	5 un solo Signore, una sola fede, un solo battesimo.
6 one God and Father of us all, who is above all and through all and in all.	6 Un solo Dio e Padre di tutti, che è al di sopra di tutti, opera per mezzo di tutti ed è presente in tutti.
7 But grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift.	7 A ciascuno di noi, tuttavia, è stata data la grazia secondo la misura del dono di Cristo.
8 Therefore it is said, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men."	8 Per questo è detto: Asceso in alto, ha portato con sé prigionieri, ha distribuito doni agli uomini.
9 (In saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth?	9 Ma cosa significa che ascese, se non che prima era disceso quaggiù sulla terra?
10 He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.)	10 Colui che discese è lo stesso che anche ascese al di sopra di tutti i cieli, per essere pienezza di tutte le cose.
11 And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,	11 Ed egli ha dato ad alcuni di essere apostoli, ad altri di essere profeti, ad altri ancora di essere evangelisti, ad altri di essere pastori e maestri,
12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,	12 per preparare i fratelli a compiere il ministero, allo scopo di edificare il corpo di Cristo,
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ;	13 finché arriviamo tutti all’unità della fede e della conoscenza del Figlio di Dio, fino all’uomo perfetto, fino a raggiungere la misura della pienezza di Cristo.
14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles.	14 Così non saremo più fanciulli in balìa delle onde, trasportati qua e là da qualsiasi vento di dottrina, ingannati dagli uomini con quella astuzia che trascina all’errore.
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,	15 Al contrario, agendo secondo verità nella carità, cerchiamo di crescere in ogni cosa tendendo a lui, che è il capo, Cristo.
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every joint with which it is supplied, when each part is working properly, makes bodily growth and upbuilds itself in love.	16 Da lui tutto il corpo, ben compaginato e connesso, con la collaborazione di ogni giuntura, secondo l’energia propria di ogni membro, cresce in modo da edificare se stesso nella carità.
17 Now this I affirm and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds;	17 Vi dico dunque e vi scongiuro nel Signore: non comportatevi più come i pagani con i loro vani pensieri,
18 they are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart;	18 accecati nella loro mente, estranei alla vita di Dio a causa dell’ignoranza che è in loro e della durezza del loro cuore.
19 they have become callous and have given themselves up to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of uncleanness.	19 Così, diventati insensibili, si sono abbandonati alla dissolutezza e, insaziabili, commettono ogni sorta di impurità.
20 You did not so learn Christ!--	20 Ma voi non così avete imparato a conoscere il Cristo,
21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus.	21 se davvero gli avete dato ascolto e se in lui siete stati istruiti, secondo la verità che è in Gesù,
22 Put off your old nature which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful lusts,	22 ad abbandonare, con la sua condotta di prima, l’uomo vecchio che si corrompe seguendo le passioni ingannevoli,
23 and be renewed in the spirit of your minds,	23 a rinnovarvi nello spirito della vostra mente
24 and put on the new nature, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.	24 e a rivestire l’uomo nuovo, creato secondo Dio nella giustizia e nella vera santità.
25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, let every one speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.	25 Perciò, bando alla menzogna e dite ciascuno la verità al suo prossimo, perché siamo membra gli uni degli altri.
26 Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,	26 Adiratevi, ma non peccate; non tramonti il sole sopra la vostra ira,
27 and give no opportunity to the devil.	27 e non date spazio al diavolo.
28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need.	28 Chi rubava non rubi più, anzi lavori operando il bene con le proprie mani, per poter condividere con chi si trova nel bisogno.
29 Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for edifying, as fits the occasion, that it may impart grace to those who hear.	29 Nessuna parola cattiva esca dalla vostra bocca, ma piuttosto parole buone che possano servire per un’opportuna edificazione, giovando a quelli che ascoltano.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.	30 E non vogliate rattristare lo Spirito Santo di Dio, con il quale foste segnati per il giorno della redenzione.
31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice,	31 Scompaiano da voi ogni asprezza, sdegno, ira, grida e maldicenze con ogni sorta di malignità.
32 and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.	32 Siate invece benevoli gli uni verso gli altri, misericordiosi, perdonandovi a vicenda come Dio ha perdonato a voi in Cristo.
