1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.	1 Per la Pentecoste, a giorno inoltrato, essi erano tutti insieme nello stesso luogo,
2 And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.	2 quando all’improvviso si sentì dal cielo un rombo fortissimo, come una raffica di vento, che riempì tutta la casa in cui si trovavano.
3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them.	3 Nello stesso tempo videro delle lingue che parevano di fuoco dividersi e posarsi su ciascuno di loro.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.	4 Tutti furono ripieni di Spirito Santo e presero a parlare in diverso linguaggio, secondo come lo Spirito li ispirava a esprimersi.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven.	5 Erano presenti a Gerusalemme tanti Israeliti, persone timorate di Dio di tutte le nazionalità.
6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.	6 Sentito quel fragore, la folla accorse, ma restarono interdetti: ognuno li sentiva parlare nella propria lingua.
7 And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans?	7 Al colmo dello stupore dicevano: «Ma costoro che parlano non sono tutti della Galilea?
8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?	8 Come mai allora noi li sentiamo ciascuno nella propria lingua materna?
9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,	9 Noi Parti, Medi, Elamiti, abitanti della Mesopotamia, Giudea, Cippidode, Ponto, Asia proconsolare,
10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,	10 Frigia, Panfilia, Egitto, Libia di Cirene, senza contare i pellegrini da Roma,
11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God."	11 sia Ebrei che proseliti, e quelli di Creta e dell’Arabia. Come mai li sentiamo proclamare le grandi opere di Dio nelle nostre lingue?»
12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"	12 Stupivano dunque tutti e non sapevano che pensare. «Che cos'è tutto questo?» si chiedevano a vicenda.
13 But others mocking said, "They are filled with new wine."	13 Ma c’era anche chi metteva la cosa in ridicolo e diceva: «Hanno bevuto troppo!»
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.	14 Pietro allora, fermatosi con gli altri undici, a voce spiegata parlò così: «O Ebrei e tutti voi che vi trovate a Gerusalemme, vi rendo nota una cosa e voi ascoltatemi.
15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day;	15 Questi non sono ubriachi come voi pensate, essendo appena, le nove del mattino.
16 but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:	16 Piuttosto si è adempita in loro quella profezia di Gioele:
17 'And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;	17 Negli ultimi tempi, dice il Signore, effonderò il mio Spirito su ogni persona, e saranno profeti i vostri figli e le vostre figlie, e i vostri giovani vedranno visioni, e i vostri anziani sogneranno sogni;
18 yea, and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.	18 cioè sui miei schiavi e sulle mie ancelle in quei tempi effonderò il mio Spirito ed essi saranno profeti.
19 And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;	19 E io farò prodigi nel firmamento e segni sulla terra, come sangue, fuoco e nuvole di fumo.
20 the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day.	20 Il sole si ottenebrerà e la luna diverrà sanguigna, all’approssimarsi del giorno grande e terribile del Signore.
21 And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'	21 E succederà che chiunque invocherà il nome del Signore sarà salvo.
22 "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know--	22 O Israeliti, ascoltate queste parole: Gesù il Nazareno, persona accreditata da Dio presso di voi con opere di potenza, prodigi e segni, che Dio ha operato mediante lui in mezzo a voi, come voi stessi ben sapete;
23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.	23 questo Gesù, voi, in conformità al decreto e prescienza divini, l’avete dato in balia degli empi, l’avete ucciso appendendolo a una croce.
24 But God raised him up, having loosed the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.	24 Dio però sciolse i vincoli dell’ade e lo risuscitò appunto perché non era possibile che egli restasse in suo potere.
25 For David says concerning him, 'I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken;	25 Dice infatti Davide nei suoi riguardi: Sempre contemplavo davanti a me il Signore, perché egli è alla mia destra affinché io non mi turbi.
26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh will dwell in hope.	26 Per questo il mio cuore si è rallegrato e ha esultato la mia lingua e persino il mio corpo riposerà nella speranza,
27 For thou wilt not abandon my soul to Hades, nor let thy Holy One see corruption.	27 perché non mi abbandonerai nell’ade, né permetterai che il tuo adoratore vada in corruzione.
28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou wilt make me full of gladness with thy presence.'	28 Mi mostrerai invece strade di vita e mi colmerai di gioia accanto a te.
29 "Brethren, I may say to you confidently of the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.	29 Fratelli, sì può dire liberamente davanti a voi che Davide nostro progenitore morì e fu sepolto, per che cui ancora oggi la sua tomba è presso di noi.
30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne,	30 Per conseguenza, essendo profeta e sapendo che il Signore gli aveva solennemente giurato di far sedere sul suo trono uno dei suoi discendenti,
31 he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.	31 egli previde e predisse la risurrezione del Messia, nel senso che questi non fu abbandonato nell’ade e il suo corpo non andò in corruzione.
32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.	32 Questo Gesù, Dio lo ha risuscitato. E di ciò siamo testimoni noi tutti.
33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you see and hear.	33 Poi, elevato al cielo mediante la destra di Dio e ricevuto da lui lo Spirito Santo promesso, egli lo ha effuso, come voi state vedendo e ascoltando.
34 For David did not ascend into the heavens; but he himself says, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand,	34 Non Davide, infatti, è asceso al cielo; e tuttavia egli dice: Disse il Signore al mio Signore: siedi alla mia destra,
35 till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet.'	35 finché io avrò messo i tuoi nemici per sgabello dei tuoi piedi.
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified."	36 Sappia quindi con certezza tutto il popolo d'Israele che questo Gesù, che voi avete fatto crocifiggere, è stato da Dio costituito Signore e Messia».
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?"	37 Toccati da questo discorso fino al cuore, essi domandarono a Pietro e agli altri apostoli: «Che cosa dobbiamo fare, o fratelli?»
38 And Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.	38 E Pietro a loro: «Ravvedetevi e fatevi battezzare uno per uno nel nome di Gesù Cristo per ottenere il perdono dei vostri peccati, e allora riceverete il dono dello Spirito Santo.
39 For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him."	39 Per voi, infatti, è la promessa di cui ho parlato, e per i vostri figli, e per tutti i lontani, quanti il Signore Dio nostro chiamerà».
40 And he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation."	40 Inoltre con moltissimi altri argomenti rese testimonianza e continuò a esortarli dicendo: «Cercate salvezza da questa generazione perversa».
41 So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.	41 Così quelli accolsero la sua esortazione e si fecero battezzare, e quel giorno furono aggregate alla Chiesa circa tremila persone.
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.	42 E tutti perseveravano nel farsi istruire dagli apostoli, nella comunanza fraterna, nell’eucarestia e nella preghiera.
43 And fear came upon every soul; and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.	43 Ognuno perciò viveva nel timore a causa dei molti prodigi e segni che gli apostoli continuamente compivano.
44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common;	44 I fedeli intanto si tenevano uniti e avevano tutto in comune.
45 and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need.	45 E man mano che se ne sentiva il bisogno vendevano beni mobili e immobili e ne facevano distribuire fra tutti il ricavato.
46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts,	46 E ogni giorno frequentavano unanimi il tempio e spezzavano il pane di casa in casa, nutrendosene in esultanza e semplicità di cuore,
47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.	47 lodando Iddio e godendo la simpatia di tutta la gente. Il Signore Gesù da parte sua continuò ad aggregare ogni giorno alla Chiesa i salvati.
